Had to try this place since Unilocal gave it such great reviews. We sat under the air conditioner and the draft was terrible there. It should be covered in the winter months. So besides freezing during dinner we always try the French onion soup at all restaurants to see if we like it. To be fair theirs was called«stout onion soup» my husband liked it, I did not care for it, too dark and heavy for me. Then we all tried the Tuesday $ 1 taco. Not too bad for a buck. I ordered the Limbtwister burger. It had the potential to be great if it had come the way I ordered it. I specifically asked for absolutely no pink and it was rather on the rare side. Fries are kinda greasy. Prices are very reasonable but not a fan of the bar atmosphere.

We live this joint. Our house in Catskill is about a 20 min drive, so we make it up everyone month or two. We are weekenders in the Great Northern Catskills and live full time in Manhattan. But, if we were up here full time we would eat at the Cask more often.

The Cask & Rasher is our favorite local place to eat. The great variety of IPAs is one reason, but the food is another. It’s hard to find a pub that serves such awesome food. The burgers alone are worth the trip here. Pricing is so competitive, hands down if you are in Coxsackie you should visit this place!

Have made two trips here in the last four weeks while visiting the Catskill area, and both times my girlfriend and I left extremely satisfied. When we were in the first time, James was the bartender and he introduced us to the place after he realized we were newbies from out of town. Great communication and very friendly. We went in a second time last weekend and James helped us again. Very attentive. Having been there only twice, we haven’t been able to try a lot of variety from the menu. Since they’re known for their wings, we dove in and tried the medium with parmesan. Excellent. The wings were crispy and held up to the sauce. Really well done. If you’re into craft beer, this place boasts a very good selection. In the two weeks between visits, it appears that about half of their taps had rotated. On our second visit, the beer menu included a very even-handed cross section between summer and fall beers, including Troegs’ Hop Knife, Sierra Nevada’s Kellerweis, Jack’s Abby’s Copper Legend and Two Roads’ Roadsmary’s Baby. This is clearly a neighborhood bar, but it’s one we’d gladly welcome in ours. It might be a while before we get back there, but we will be back.

My husband and I recently moved to the area, and The Cask and Rasher has become a staple in our lives. We either stop in or order take-out at least 2x a month. Our favorites are the Cojo wings and Garlic Parm fries. The beer selections are also pretty impressive. Can’t say enough good things about this place!

Driving to the area one weekend, my family, friends and I wanted to stop for lunch. We all agreed that we didn’t want fast food. So I used Unilocal and found this place. What a gem! Everyone was raving about their lunch by the time we were finished. Awesome beer selection too. The server was friendly and informative. I had the wings and they were great. I lived in the Western NY area for five years, so I have a good idea of what great wings taste like. My dad raved about his burger. It had cream cheese, bacon and jalapenos. If I’m ever in the area again, I would definitely stop here.

I’m really, really glad that we stopped in here on our recent trip to Coxsackie, NY. James was the bartender for the day. As soon as he found out we were first-timers, he gave us the run-down on how the bar and kitchens operate. They rotate the draft lines all the time(he said only two draft lines are dedicated, one for Guiness and one for something else that I forgot). The rest rotate out with available craft beer selections. The crowd was local and everyone seemed to know each other. But man, people were friendly. The place has such a neat vibe, such great beer selection and a great menu… you don’t want to have to leave. We knew we’d be hungry late night, so we asked if we could order to go. They were happy to accommodate us. I ordered the Shepherd’s Pie and when I came home a little tipsy from the rehearsal party around midnight… that Shepherd’s Pie… even nuked… was legit the best Shepherd’s Pie I have ever had(disclaimer: I did try it piping hot just after we got the to-go order. I knew it was a killer Shepherd’s Pie before having to nuke it). Hands down, my favorite spot that we found while in Coxsackie. If we ever find ourselves back in this area, we will visit again!

Best wings in the capital district/Hudson/Catskill area. Discovered this gem during wine and wingfest at hunter mountain a couple years ago. Have been to the mothership a couple times. Great wings. I recommend the cojo! Great beers on tap as well! Definitely worth the short drive from the capital district. Get in the car and go!

Solid neighborhood bar with a great beer selection. Stopped in here on a whim. Glad we did. Burgers were amazing. Chicken sandwich was good with a nice mix of blue cheese and buffalo sauce. I thought I ordered the coji sauce on it but maybe said it wrong. Very happy with the IPA selection, I’ve seen shorter lists at places claiming to be craft beer centric. Only down side was from the freezer Mac and cheese bites but this really is just a neighborhood bar. And also the onion rings were a little under done. But that was probably because we ate at a weird time when only the bar had patrons supporting their cause. I would definitely stop back in if I was in the area.

This bar is amazing great local crowd, amazing staff, and killer wings. Have to sample the kojo wings and the cask burger is definitely the best in Greene County.

My coworkers had been raving about this place for quite some time, especially the burgers. I stopped in for lunch and had a stout and a regular burger. Meh… the burger was«diner-grade», possibly even slightly less fresh than a diner! The beer selection was good though. I stopped in later that same day for dinner but saw that it was going to be a long wait. It’s a small place and it was packed.

I had a really big, really good salad with real lettuce. The wine was good and the Martinis were maybe too good. I had fun and they put up with a large party and multiple checks without a fuss.

Love this local bar. They always have a great variety of beers to choose from and daily specials. Their garlic parm wings in the cojo sauce are the best! Love their burgers and chicken sandwiches too! We have been coming here for the past few years and it’s never been a disappointment.

Managing expectations is always important. So lets lay them out. One, this is a neighborhood bar more then a restaurant… don’t like neighborhood bars… don’t go. Two, The general clientele are very friendly young hipster types… don’t like friendly hipsters, don’t go. Three, this is a beer bar. Expect a wide variety of wonderful draft beers with a bartender willing to explain to you the nuances of each. Looking for fine wine… don’t go. Four, expect your meal to consist of beer food… hamburgers and chicken grilled sandwiches. Actually we also had a wonderful salad. Don’t like beer food… don’t go. I didn’t give them 5 stars because I felt the very friendly and attentive waitress needs just a slight brush up on which plates and utensils to offer… rather then be asked. But she was wonderful, I don’t want to give any impression that the service was poor… it just could be better.

My husband and I stopped here on our way home from our adirondack wedding and absolutely loved it! Only about 10in off the highway and totally worth it! Super friendly people and service — not to mention yumm yumm on the food and beer selection! Our new spot on the way to and from the ADK!

«Crafts of Coxsackie« by Josh K. Finding ourselves in the small town of Coxsackie on a mini-road trip down the Hudson River, we stopped at this hidden gem of a beer lover’s pub known simply as The Cask and Rasher. Upon entering the completely redone and favorably adorned early 19th century building, we were warmly received by a young but extremely knowledgeable bartender who gave us specific information about the craft beers they stock. He also gave us a rundown of the history of the establishment, and gave us recommendations of his favorite beer and menu options. That tap was very impressive with some amazing beer selections ranging from the local Crossroads«Outcast» to some beers further down the Hudson such as Keegan’s Ale Black IPA. If you come before 6pm, two full pints will only set you back $ 7. There also specials everyday including a .50 cent wing night which we hope to hit up next time. As for the menu, it was basic pub fare but with some interesting options including a «Man Vs. Food» style 2lb bacon, 3 patty glutinous burger challenge. The bartender steered us to the wings we he promised would not disappoint. Specifically, he told us to order their house specialty, the«CoJo» wings. Here, jumbo wings are tossed in my beloved Buffalo-style hot sauce and generously dolloped with garlic and Parmesan. The wings were perfectly executed — crispy and saucy. They were fantastic. We also sampled the homemade barbeque sauce wings which were also solid. I will easily come back to The Cask and Rasher for the great beer selections just as easily as for the incredible wings. The Cask and Rasher makes the perfect pit stop and is a highlight of any drive up or down the Hudson.

Considering the neighborhood, Coxackie locals should be grateful to have such a nice pub in the area, and one with a phenomenal beer selection. I ordered takeout and had a brew at the bar while I waited. It wasn’t very loud or crowded for a Saturday night, despite a crowd of mostly 20 – 30 somethings. Staff was friendly overall, but kind of hard to catch the eye of. The girl behind the counter made some great beer recommendations and let me sample one before buying. The guy who took my order needed it repeated to him about 6 times. Menu left a bit to be desired for me, but I think lots of people would have no problem with it. Meat city! ;) I could only order from the appetizers, since that was the only section with vegetarian options. However, the food was very tasty. Jalapeño poppers get special mention. PS: They should really get their website running already. it’s been under construction forever.
