Horrible, oysters served in wrong season. Door whores are rude and ignorant. Their feeble brain can’t read a reservation. Party of five treated badly. I don’t like NJ, sorry my clients picked this dump. It is one of those places peppered all over with chain aspirations. I did not eat my food because, the receptionist was so contemptuous I would have ended up with biological samples of urine, feces, blood and saliva. Seriously bad, only plus we had our own special wine. My client knew owner and if that’s all there is better off being a stranger. I had starved myself for gluttony only to find myself longing for the new York city food. When plates came it made me even less hungry. I’m planning on going to the best oyster bar in September. But for now a really awesome seafood restaurant in the city. And again be bitter, disappointed, expect a a glare and contempt greeting you at the door. Better yet don’t bother. I rather eat my last year’s ferragamo shoe than stomach the fishy pablum.

Tried this place out. Amazing food. Fresh, good quality. Half price oysters during happy hour so that’s Always nice. After a dozen oysters we had the hush puppies, meatball appetizer, octopus, and mussels. Everything was amazing and very fresh, perfectly cooked. Dessert was the toffee pudding cake which was also delicious with their house made ice cream. Highly recommended. Yes it is definitely overpriced, that’s the one con… prices could be a bit more reasonable. However, the food was so good I didn’t mind. I have spent money on terrible or mediocre meals before and that is more irritating to me. Try it out. You won’t be disappointed.

I am big fan of oysters so I always want to try this place since it got real good reviews. They serve 8 kinds of oysters and I tried each of them. To be honest the price is kind expensive. It is even more expensive if you compare to those nice oyster restaurants in New York City but the taste is not better or even same. At least 5 or 6 of them are just salty taste and not good at all. I also tried the seafood ravioli thing — 2 of them for $ 18 small portion? Way expensive even taste is good. The average for dinning here is easily go over $ 50 per person if you order oyster. I rather try the same level restaurants in NYC.

Pricey but beautiful. This establishment has it all. The atmosphere is out of this world, the service is unprecedented and the food, well… Finger licking good.

I don’t get why this place has 4 ½ stars. Definitely overprice and overrated place. We ordered the Ceviche platter(it came with 3 or 4 different type of fish) and it was very bland, it really didn’t have much flavor. Kind of disappointing to be honest. I ordered the steak and my friend ordered the catch of the day, both dishes were blah. I asked for my steak to be medium and I got well done. The meat was dry and hard to chew. My friend’s dish was average, nothing special about it. The only thing that may have saved the night was the Meatballs! They were very tasty and decent size. I may actually go back for the meatballs, that’s it.

Visited this establishment for my mother’s birthday dinner a couple weeks ago and was very impressed with the quality of food and service. Oysters were some of the best I’ve had in the area. Actually, all of the the dishes were exceptional, everyone was very happy with their choices. Service was welcoming from the time we were greeted at the door by the friendly maitre d’ to our lovely waitress who was very knowledgeable about the menu and also very friendly and attentive. I will surely be back next time I am in the area.

Came here for the first time and the place was pretty busy and it was early. I ordered the meatball appetizer which came in a delicious sauce and the lobster stuffed tortellini appetizer which was good. For entrees the fried Griggstown chicken with potatoes and the monkfish special which were both excellent, but I was very disappointed in the entrée portion sizes they were very small. I don’t mind paying $ 36 for fried chicken or monkfish, but at least give a nice serving for that price. For dessert I had the sticky toffee cake, but I didn’t care for it. It was kinda bland and not sweet not what I expected. I also ordered the peanut butter cookie and that was to die for! I highly recommend their homemade cookies! I loved the different variations of the menu and the special list, and would love to be a regular at this place, but the only thing stopping me would be the entrée portion sizes being too small, but I really did enjoy the food and would definitely come again just not as frequent as other places. The hostess was very nice and so was the server. Definitely try this place once at least they had a lot of eclectic things you won’t find at other restaurants it’s a cute place just need bigger entrée portions that’s the only reason I’m not giving it 5 stars. For price you pay there should be a nicer size portion for entrée.

Very impressed with this place. Who would think Cranford, NJ could showcase such culinary craft. Let’s start with the atmosphere. The décor is reminiscent of a 20 something girl’s first apartment, but you know what, it works. Down to the wooden crates they use to mark tables in between courses, I guess the word I’d use to describe it is: quaint. Raw bar: very fresh and expertly shucked. A great variety of both east and west coast oysters. The littlenecks were plump and delicious. I’d like to try the ceviche next time. Homemade cocktail sauce was balanced, not overwhelmingly sweet or horseradishy, really brings out the flavor of the raw bar. Some notes on the food, the crostini was great, needed a saltier component but was good. Seasonal veg was asparagus, I could have done without it but I ordered it for my mom. The frito misto was calamari on steroids, the sauce on it was great. Skip the octopus, I was a little disappointed. It was cooked very well but I wasn’t a fan of the beans and BBQ sauce. The meatballs were okay. Growing up Italian, I always try meatballs when I go out, but nothing comes close to my family’s recipe. The star of the show? The shrimp. Oh my god, get the shrimp. Dip the bread in it. You won’t be disappointed. Dessert? Sticky toffee pudding cake. Yup. Service was great, Katie was friendly and attentive. Jim, the owner, takes his time to welcome every table and go over the specials. Easy to do in a smaller place, but a great sign that he takes pride in his work and that is very important in this industry. Well done, can’t wait to come back and try more dishes.

Small plates were all delicious and the variety of oysters and clams was fantastic. The happy hour is the best deal you’ll find for a high quality raw bar.

Have the mussels! You’re welcome! In all seriousness probably the best mussels I’ve ever eaten. Also really good, the Oysters. We ordered the sampler which came with a list of everything we were trying. They were super fresh. A byob which is always a plus. I’ll definitely try it again.

I really wish Unilocal would add half stars. I rounded up but feel like this place was more 3 ½ stars for me. To be fair I am not into oysters and I know this is what they are known for. I joined friends who are into oysters. They did enjoy what they had but did say they thought oysters were overpriced. They have tapas so we ordered a few things to share. Everything was good but portions were small and pricey. This like their sister restaurant across the street is very popular so make reservations well in advance. It is very loud inside too. Worth a visit but I probably won’t be back.

Ate here about a year ago, memory is not super crisp due to time but also because my brother and our ladies polished off a fair share of wine(BYOB!!!). I’m not quite sure the total population of ‘good’ restaurants in Cranford, but suspect this is in the upper echelon and worth it. If we’re talking NYC not sure this is in the top tier, but for the area it’s great and would recommend.

100 Steps is the sister restaurant to A Toute Heure(ATH) located conveniently across the street or 100 steps away to be exact. 100 Steps is a raw bar concept and the bar area and views into the kitchen give the restaurant more of an urban ambiance versus the cozy and homey style of ATH. I visited 100 Steps in October of 2015 with a party of 4. I had tried and loved ATH and wanted to try 100 Steps. There were a few weekend reservation openings for 100 Steps but booking in advance is still recommended. To start we ordered from the raw bar. The raw bar menu is separate from the regular menu. You can order single oysters or clams at market price. The variety of mollusks included oysters from New Jersey to Washington state. The main menu is small plates style. They were ok with us choosing a few items to begin and ordering more as we feasted! We started with the fall salad which has roasted squash, blue cheese, and serrano ham over a bed of arugula with smoked almonds. The fall salad was enough to split across two people. Next we enjoyed the seared scallop and crispy calamari which came with a sweet pear pure that went nicely with the toping of arugula and balsamic vinegar. Then came the OHS meatballs. These savory meatballs were made of beef and chorizo and were enough to split across 4 people and were a stand out of the meal. The couple we were with ordered the lobster crostini. Even though I just got a taste, this small plate was a highlight too. The large lumps of lobster meat were on a small piece with a delicious broth. After we enjoyed the small plates we decided we were still hungry and could go for a larger appetizer for each couple to split. My girlfriend and I ordered the spaccatelli which came with a tender shredded duck ragu. One of my favorite things about ATH and 100 Steps is that when I visit I know I could order an «adventurous» dish and really enjoy it. Another thing to point out is the broths in all of the dishes at 100 Steps and ATH. From the mussel pots to the pasta dishes the broth will have you licking your bowl clean!

I love their bread and oyster… actually food and service was great!!! It’s BYOB… park in front of the restaurant or at a designated public parking spot, maybe 75 steps away. I would come back for a happy hour, East Coast Oyster for $ 1 and their Fried Oyster sandwich which I have not tried yet but I’m sure it would be good too. Visited Nov 1, 2015

This place strives to be something it is not. It thinks it is trendy, but is in what is basically a strip mall on a Cranford street. It thinks it is imaginative. It thinks it merits the prices it charges for decent but not terrific food. I was disappointed. Three of us shared meatballs, a house salad, sautéed shrimp, salmon ceviche, a pasta special and grilled octopus. The meatballs were good, as was the sauce. Same for the shrimp. The octopus was really dry and flavorless. The salad was bland. The ceviche, while fresh, lacked any sort of punch. The pasta tasted cheesy but lacked any other real depth of flavor. The Parker house rolls that came with al of this were really good, properly salty and buttery. Service was friendly. Prices are high considering the middling quality of the food. One visit was enough.

Sometimes life has its special moments, and why shouldn’t you spend it in a special place? I’ve done it many times and many different ways at this little town favorite. My favorite is to start my time at 5pm. Yes its punctual and early, but for happy hour oysters why not, the early bird catches the finest oysters at an amazing price! Roll it over to 5:30 and the dinner menu begins. Several plates later, tons of wonderful food in my belly, life is so satisfying. But the best moment and memory is seeing my mom have her first luxury meal in her life. She felt special dining in this beautiful décor, enjoying all the foods. It’s a beautiful memory to have with my mom.

I’m sorry but Cranford, NJ is not the Upper East Side. But apparently, 100 Steps thinks it is. My husband and I went yesterday for brunch based on the reviews. While the setting was lovely, it is so over-priced for the quality and quantity that, frankly, I don’t know how they stay in business. While the service was conscientious, I had to ask three times for a pepper grinder — the first two times, the grinder was empty and the server didn’t bother to check. Now as to the food. We ordered a half dozen clams on the half shell to share. While they were tasty and fresh, they were each the size of a quarter and the charge for 6? $ 2 each. Then I ordered the fried oyster Benedict. The oysters over so overdone, all you could taste was the crunch. And for $ 24 at brunch, I expect more than just two soggy English muffins with overdone oysters and a sprig of parsley plunked down on a white plate. My husband had the chicken and waffles. Over-friend chicken strips with two half-waffles for $ 20. There are so many nice places for brunch in Northern NJ, particularly in our hometown of Montclair, I can’t see ever trying 100 Steps in the future.

This place has been on my «to do» list for awhile now and we finally made it a couple nights ago. We walked in late on a Thursday without a reservation and were lucky to find a table had just opened. From start to finish, the service here was so pleasant. The hostess, our server, the bus boy, everyone was so accommodating and polite. We decided to order a bunch of small plates, although you can also do individual entrees. We went with a half dozen oysters, fried oyster sandwich, muscles pot(sans the sausage), and each had a clam soup. Everything was so good! The muscles were tiny, but I prefer that. The gave us some house rolls that were amazing! Super soft inside, well done and salted on the outside. They also brought more bread for dipping in the muscles pot, which was also very good. We didn’t go for dessert because we were so full, so they brought over a plate of bite sized«chipless» chocolate chip cookies. Although it was busy, we felt we had our servers full attention the whole time. I wish I knew his name because he deserves a shout out(he was very tall with short brown hair)! We are definitely coming back during the week for the oyster happy hour!

I was super close to giving this place 5 stars… but felt it was closer to 4 – 4.5 stars. Honestly, this place is great. We came here for Mother’s Day dinner with the fam and the experience was excellent! First of all, the owner came to our table to walk us through the menu, which I thought was a really nice touch. He did that with each table that came in. I’ve never really seen that before. He also took my niece and nephew back to the kitchen to show them around, which I thought was really cute. Great service! The idea is that there are lots of small plates that you can have and share with the table and then there are a handful of pastas or entrees if you are still hungry for more food. We ordered WAY more than we needed, but we got to try a lot. We started with oysters and the ceviche trio. The oysters were delicious. Some of the best I’ve had in a long time… super fresh. The ceviche trio was tuna, salmon and scallop. I didn’t try the scallop but everyone said it was delicious. The salmon was really tasty with a nice kick of heat at the end and the tuna was okay. We also got meatballs for the kids(which I tried and were deliciously moist and tasty), the grilled octopus(which was cooked perfectly, although it was too vinegary for my taste), the clam chowder(DELISH and I don’t even like clam chowder!) and the fried onion straws(which were a lighter, hopefully healthier version of a bloomin’ onion:). I decided on the branzino for dinner, which was really tasty although at times difficult to navigate through the bones. It was light and fresh and perfectly citrusy. I didn’t try all of the entrees, but the hubs got a pasta dish with bacon that he said was pretty good and my sister got the chicken thigh dish which was SOGOOD. I would eat that every day for the rest of my life and be happy. It was in a creamy mushroom sauce and it was so so good. Desserts were tasty too, peanut butter chocolate chip cookies were soft and chewy and hot and the chocolate cake was really rich, but very good. It’s a bit pricey, though, so keep that in mind! We will definitely be back. This place is a gem!
