Although the staff was courteous and professional and the office beautiful, I will never recommenced this practice to anyone, and asked my orthodontist to reconsider referring patients to him. I was referred to Dr. Skoly by my orthodontist to have my 4 wisdom teeth removed. I scheduled an initial appointment to meet with Dr. Skoly to discuss my options. I sat through a video explaining the benefits and possible risks associated with general anesthesia and local anesthesia. After the video concluded, I met with Skoly to discuss the next steps. I decided to choose GENERLANESTHESIA. I discussed it with him, and even joked with Skoly about going under. The day comes to get my surgery. I’m led into the back room where the nurses come in to do their normal before-surgery routine, so I assumed. I hadn’t gone under since I was a child, so I was naturally nervous to begin with. I ended up waiting for the surgery to begin for a surprisingly long amount of time — 2 nurses hung out in the room with me for close to 30 minutes waiting for the doctor. They hook me up to an IV and I expect to start feeling groggy and out of it… but I felt nothing of the sort. I was 100% conscious and alert for the entirety of the procedure, although I specifically asked for general anesthesia. I began to get extremely nervous, as I felt the crunch of each of my teeth being ripped from my mouth. After beginning to hyperventilate(and hearing my heart monitor start beeping rapidly with the increase of my heart rate) I asked for a break so I could stop myself from having a panic attack; a request that was denied by Skoly. After the procedure, I immediately started crying because of how unpleasant the experience was; especially seeing as I had no idea I was going to have to be conscious through it. I told my boyfriend and mother, who were there with me, about the experience and they asked the doctor why I wasn’t put out. He explained that I was on a lot of heavy duty pain killers and didn’t feel a thing. This was true, I wasn’t in pain at all, however you can’t tell someone they’re going to be put under and not do it. Many people suffer from anxiety disorders(myself included) and will panic in these sorts of situations. You can’t do that to any patient, it is totally unacceptable. I’ve spoken to friends who were also patients of Skoly and experienced the very same thing. Don’t show a video during the consultation that says general anesthesia is an option when it is not. I don’t care if you don’t do general anesthesia — when someone is going into surgery, there shouldn’t be any guesswork. Make it very clear that someone will not be completely unconscious so they don’t get the wrong impression, it’s that simple.

The people here are real professionals! They were also very accommodating as I needed to have my wisdom tooth removed asap — one of the bad boys was impacted and it was very painful. The surgery itself was quick and with the help of anesthesia, it was not as scary or as painful as I envisioned. Post surgery recovery has been a success too! I still feel some pain and discomfort but that’s totally normal — if you must know the gory details, the bleeding has also subsided. Dr. Skoly and his staff were wonderful! I never waited too long to see the Doc.
