Elan Design

This place should not even be open. The place is extremely dirty. Outdated and the staff is extremely unprofessional. I had booked appointments a month In advance and called asking specific accommodations. I then was satisfied with the responses that I got over the phone. So I proceeded to book an appointment. Well, that was not the case walking in. Did not get any of it. Considering the fact that there was 4 women that were suppose to get a massage and élan calls us 10 min before walking in canceling. The list went on and on after that. The only good thing I got there was my blow dry by a very nice girl that clearly does not belong there at all. Besides that the rest unprofessional. We went in for a spa day and came out extremely stressed out. Makes no sense. We also asked to speak to the owner and they have us his number and the owner never called us back or emailed back after having 3 of us calling and emailing him. No wonder this place is a dump. The owner itself is extremely rude and unprofessional. Never go back. If anything it should shut down.

Lori Ricci does my cuts, color, and keratin treatments. She is an artist who gives her advice, but ultimately does what you want. I can’t recommend her enough.

Have you ever been to a party where the married hosts are clearly arguing and you could cut the tension with a knife? Yeaaaaaaaaa…
So my sister and I head to Élan to get massages and mani/​pedis. Here are the notes:
Personnel: There are some serious interpersonal issues happening in that salon that made us extremely uncomfortable the whole time.
Services: They could use some retraining– my sister and I could have given each other better massages and nail treatments.
Cleanliness: Um, no. Old towels, dirty stations, ceiling in desperate need of repair
There was one nail technician who felt the same way we did and was trying (in vain) to keep the mood light. And I am eternally grateful for her.

I came here for the Groupon as well. Massage, facial and pedicure [I don’t remember any of their names-​whoops]. It was in the middle of no where with no sign even on the overhang and I got very nervous… but it was all for naught.
The receptionist was very sweet and my massage therapist immediately came out and greeted me. She had to change around her massage plan last minute because I’m newly pregnant and was a good sport about it. It was a decent massage but she was kind of a chatty Kathy. Some people like to meditate/​sleep during massages and that was never really an option without being rude.
At the end of the massage they gave me a robe dress and brought me to the facialist. She was kind and understanding that facials hurt! She didn’t push any products on me and tried to make it as enjoyable as possible. Then she gave me slippers and I was on my way to my pedicure!
The pedicure was fine. I got prrifrin wax and my feet feel nice but it wasn’t anything over the top special. French lines weren’t perfect.
All in all its maybe a 3.5 because I’m a tough customer but I will go again for a facial and the groupon was a good deal.

I went here for a microdermabrasion facial. The woman who did my facial was very nice, and I was happy with the treatment. The only thing is that this place is on the ground floor — the front of the building had lots of windows, but it didn’t seem like there were any windows to the outside in the back rooms, so I would say it felt a little gloomy… that may not be the best word to describe it, but I can’t come up with a better one. Overall I would say this place was perfectly fine, but it didn’t blow me out of the water. I don’t pamper myself very often, so I haven’t been back. I MIGHT go back… but I’d probably try out another place first, as there are about a zillion places to choose from.
Also, it didn’t affect my experience inside, but I thought the location of this place was a little strange… it’s kind of behind (or in front of?) a giant W.B. Mason warehouse. I drove right past the address at first because I didn’t think there would be a spa back there!

I went for a massage today, to redeem a groupon. Brigitte was fantastic– I’ve found that most masseuse’s are too gentle– I told her to really get into the knots in my neck, back and shoulders, and she worked hard for the full hour

I love Élan’s. I regularly go there for eye brow waxing, facials, and massages. Erin is an excellent, friendly esthetician. She does all my waxing and facials, which are all reasonably priced. The massages I’ve had there have all been great. I would recommend Élan’s as it is reasonably priced and the services are good.

One star is too good. I went to Élan Design yesterday very excited for my first cut in over 2 years. I wanted to finally relax and treat myself after so long not stepping foot into a salon. I used to WORK in a salon for 2 years and this is why I would not let anyone else touch my hair. I loved the people I worked with, and how beautiful they made me feel and look. So my standards are set high since I was working/​going to a high end salon where they LISTEN to what you want. Now being someone that has worked in the salon industry I know what stylists are supposed to do. As soon as I stepped foot into «Élan Designs» (first of all, no sign on the building indicating they were even élan design). I was not warmly greeted or treated as a new client that they cared to retain. Immediatly my stylist came out, and never introduced herself, so I STILL don’t know who did my hair! She brought me to the shampoo bowl without first talking to me about what I wanted to do with my hair, so I went ahead and told her. She said ok, (uh… alright then) and then told me to lean back into the bowl. I have NEVER experienced such a rough shampooing. The side of my head/​neck kept hitting the side of the bowl! Now obviously, I didn’t expect the same treatment that I got at a high end salon In Newton, MA where a cut costs you anywhere from 60 – 80 $ depending on your tip (I know. pricey) BUT I also didn’t expect a WHAM BAM THANK YOU MA’AM experience either. They couldn’t wait to hurry up and get rid of me! She chopped my hair, it’s a HACK job. The experience was miserable. The place is cheesey and the stylist couldn’t have been more rough or anti-​social. I would NOT refer a friend or someone I don’t know or my worst enemy there. They treat you like crap. All set!

I’ve only been here for massages, but I have returned many times. The only reason that I gave this place 4 stars and not 5 is because I think they could revamp the massage area a little, other than that I have no complaints. Their prices are very reasonable as well.

I’ve been going to Deb Albert for my hair for several years, following her to whatever salon she lands in. Currently, she’s at Élan 2 days a week. She knows what she’s doing, but will listen to what you want also. For what she does with her skill level, she could charge a lot more (but I’m glad she doesn’t!).
She’s given me the best cuts ever, and we experiment with color often.

I’d arranged a meeting using the Groupon service. The Groupon part went great, but when I arrived, I was told that while I was in the system, no appointment had been booked. That was it — no apology, no effort to find out what had happened, no offer to reschedule. I asked what other times were available, and was told a time much later in the day, in a tone that indicated I was wasting the receptionist’s time. (I was the only person in at the desk and the waiting area, and I when I’d arrived the receptionist had walked over from a group other employees who were chatting.)
Mixups like these are bound to happen, it’s no big deal. I don’t appreciate being treated like that, though. Since it’s over half an hour away from where I live, I think I’ll find places closer that treat me better than this.
