This is definitely a place you should not judge buy looks alone. Stykee’s shares a retail-strip with a liquor store. The gaggas, aka wieners, hot wieners, ny system wieners are as good as any I have had in the state. Stykee, named after the owner, is very laid back and has a dedicated loyal following. Breakfast or lunch, closes by 3 pm. I have had breakfast, the eggs, and sausage were very good. I mostly go for the gagga’s. The soft bun, just the right snap, and a deliciously spiced meat sauce do me right. If you are on Elmwood Avenue in Cranston near the Warwick line give them a try. Get there by 3 pm pr you will miss out.

Impossible to be a Rhode Islander and not love this place! Stykee’s is a traditional Rhode Island Dinner with everything from Breakfast specials(ask for onions to be added to the hash browns and you thank me latter) to New York Systems Hot Weiners. Something for just about everyone. We go for breakfast about once a month. Not sure how or why, but these folks have THEBEST pancakes I have ever had LoL! No matter what I order I make sure to at least add one pancake to it. The omelettes are also amazing. You’d better bring your appetite, because these omelettes are(as Paris Hilton says) HUGE! Dang it, I’m writing this review now from out breakfast yesterday… Now all I want to do is go back there for breakfast. Ah heck, it’s so affordable there, I’m going to go let the kids know we are going back this morning =]

I’ll be the first to admit that I’m amoung the worst Rhode Islanders who have ever lived. I have no accent, am not a fan of clam«chowda,» and(please don’t murder me), wouldn’t touch Dell’s Lemonade with a ten-yard pole. New York System however, is a RI tradition that I can’t deny is pretty sweet. One of its innumerable forms and locations, Stykee’s is not much different than any other. That musty yet familiar grease smell & loud, throwback interior haven’t changed much since my childhood, a total walk down Memory Ave. Foodwise, for those not familiar with NYS, the franchise consists of pretty typical diner food other than their main claim to fame, the«wee-nah.» Ah, weinees. Not quite a hot dog, not quite a sausage. To the non-RI native, they can appear a tad freaky & unappealing if nothing else with it’s unique, squared shape and the infamous tradition of the chef slappin’ toppings over his bare arm. It’s all in good taste(promise)! I must admit, I’m a huge fan of celery salt and onions on my dogs and NYS definitely doesn’t disappoint. If anything, it’s the meat mix of the hot dog itself that’s never really made me jump through hoops regardless of which location I visit. They taste a lot like. bologna.(Re: something I really dislike.) Still though, their menu is expansive and there’s always something for everyone and at the very least, chowin’ down on a wiener is an experience in itself even if just for once. Veg-heads beware: not much is edible for special diets. I really adore this particular location and can’t recommend stopping by enough should you be in the area. Delish.
