History
Established in 1962.
In 1960 Howell Wilhite worked a year with no pay for BBQ Charlie (one of the first BBQ places in Austin) on 5th and Congress. All he wanted to do was learn about BBQ. In 1962 Howell opened up Wilhites BBQ and used his new found knowledge. Robert Wilhite (the current owner) was 6 years old at the time so he grew up learning everything he possibly could about running the restaurant. In 1980 Robert took over full time and since then he has smoked over 800,000 lbs of brisket!
