Battery Point Lighthouse

Die Landschaft ist sehr schön! Leider war bei unserem Besuch das Wetter nicht so schön, schade. Aber der Pazifik ist auch bei grauem Wetter atemberaubend!

Gorgeous coastal waters. Nice hike up the hill to view the old New England style lighthouse, with a pretty array of flowers, berries and succulents alonf the way. Excellent place for pictures and fun for kids to walk the rocky areas to look for crabs, shells and pretty stones.

One of our favorite parts of the day at Crescent City. We happened to get there at low tide, which you need, to get to the lighthouse. The walk up was beautiful and seeing all the sea lions play in the water was fun. For $ 3 a person you can take a tour.
FYI:There are volunteers who give the tour and run the lighthouse for a month. The light keeper let us know it was his first day. He has been on the waiting list for three years!

One of my most favorite lighthouse in NorCal coast! It can only be accessed during low tides! The history of this lighthouse is very interesting! It has an amazing view of the coast and surroundings are well maintained!

Im a reader and i just finished Point of Direction and was ½ way of The Light Between Oceans (both great books about lighthouses). I love lighthouses. There is such history in them, remember most of them were built before there were even real roads. These people were true pioneers. You need to call this place and find out the hours they are open, because getting to it depends on the tides. That said, its well worth it. The keepers change monthly and they take you on a short tour. They need our donations to keep it open and maintained. The keepers were so nice and helpful. And if you get lucky like us you may see whales. Go, and for a moment imagine what life must have been like for these people 100 years ago.

I remember Battery Point Lighthouse vividly — I came across it on my first stop during my month long Pacific NW trip from SF through OR/​WA to Whistler. Unfortunately, my car battery died on the very first night but luckily it went out in the city I was planning to stop at anyways and furthermore, it worked out for the best because all my other immediate stops were up in the mountains in the snow.
The lighthouse itself is accessible during low tide only but there is not much to see once on the island or in the lighthouse. The best view is from the parking lot during sunset. I love sunsets and lighthouses so I view it as karma that my car battery died at sunset at this very lighthouse. The main draw is having the ocean as the backdrop for your photos since the lighthouse itself is not as spectacular as other ones north and south of here but worth a quick stop if you are in the area.

The walking path to the lighthouse can be quite dangerous if you go at any other time of day other than low tide. This results from the fact that the path is located between the sand area of the beach and the ocean. During high tide, the water from the ocean fills the walking path, which could mean you’ll be washed into the Pacific. Well, I lived to tell about it as I went during low tides. It’s a nice trek up the hill and the view from the top is stunning.

A neat and cheap attraction. It’s accessible only at low tide so call before you go. Sign up for the tour as soon as you get on the island. Space is limited and they can shut tours down without notice if the tide starts coming in.
They have a no pictures policy inside the lighthouse, except at the top. There are lots of signs and they are watching to make sure you don’t take any pictures. People asked and were told that this is so people don’t document their security measures. What? You mean like the 1970’s era motion sensors? Not sure I believe this, as did the other people. There is not much in there that one could easily walk off with.
Pictures are allowed at the top and it was worth the wait.

Very informative volunteers at the Lighthouse. We enjoyed the tour. Not too challenging to reach at low tide. The views are great and the lighthouse was impressive. Only $ 3 donation to get a nice tour. I highly recommend if you are in Crescent City.

It’s a lighthouse. It’s special in that it’s only accessible at low tide. It’s also a private residence and that makes me wonder how the people who live there live their lives if they can only come and go twice a day. Weird.
Know that the grounds are not dog friendly. You can walk them just up to the top of the hill but that’s where you’ll have to wait it out.

We visited the lighthouse itself, not the museum. We went twice back to back days and missed the tour both days. It was fun nevertheless crossing over on foot during low tide and back.
The lighthouse is a California historic landmark. It’s perched on a tiny hilltop. Great views of Crescent City and of the Pacific Ocean from the top.
Check online for the tour schedule as you can only cross over on low tide.

Pretty lighthouse and great view from the top. Only reason it’s not a 5 star experience for me is that the tour and museum area is never open when I’m up there. I’ve gone up numerous times and it’s always closed.

A lovely little lighthouse which is very much worth going for a visit. But be warned; call ahead to see if they are having the tour. Even though there were tours scheduled for the day and we showed up at the tour time, there were a bunch of people waiting and the lady says that they can only take two more people and that it would be the last tour of the day even though it was only 11am; due to the fact that the tide might rush in. They had given a tour earlier before the scheduled times that morning. So they really give the tours based on the tides. The lighthouse is accessible only when the tide is out but when the tide is in you would have to wade back to get ashore. And sometimes the tides can be unpredictable if a storm is brewing. We called really early the next morning and she said that there would be a tour at 9am which was earlier than the first posted tour of 10am.
It was worth waiting and seeing the lighthouse tower.
Go with a sense of adventure and you won’t be disappointed.
There are no restrooms for the public and there is a public parking lot with a handful of parking spaces at the beach.

Beautiful little lighthouse! The tour was so informative, and the view was spectacular! Unfortunately, they will not allow picture taking inside the lighthouse. I got some beautiful pics outside tho. The history was intriguing and the volunteers were so kind. We had to leave the dogs at the car, so that kept me wondering about their safety.
A must see! I plan on going back very soon!

Battery Point Lighthouse is a must see when driving through Crescent City. Unlike the other famous lighthouse that’s 9 miles out to sea (St. George Lighthouse), Battery Point is accessible by foot. Their reasonably priced tour is about one hour long and includes sought after views on top of the lighthouse. Volunteers have the unique opportunity to be lighthouse keepers. Even if you don’t take the tour, just walking the lighthouse grounds is worth the trek. The lighthouse is private property and does not allow pets on their premises.

I used to take a motorcycle trip from Seattle (before moving to SoCal) down to Crescent City annually from 1984 through 1991. Each year, Battery Point Lighthouse was a special stop for me. I have many great memories there. I watched the July 4^th fireworks from the lighthouse for 3 — 4 years. Unfortunately, I can’t recall the names of the retired bike riding /​private pilot man, married to the cat loving sweetie from twenty years ago. Life goes on, I suppose. That said… it offers a beautiful vista and is worth your visit. Enjoy.
