Very homemade has a unique flavor from a part of Mexico I haven’t ate from before but not what I’m used to but very good 3 and a half stars… I’ll be there again for sure. I will update

This is quite a local gem. The salsa is ass-burning awesome and the guac is fresh and pulpy. You don’t want to miss this if you are in Crete. This is a good place to enjoy an authentic Mexican meal with a drink of Jarritos and Spanish speaking waiters. Nothing fancy — just some seriously good real Mexican food with heaps of Spanish blaring from the telly and fellow customers.

I’m giving this 5 stars because the food was excellent. I ordered just one tamale and wish I could come back for more. Really authentic and tasty tamales! We shared an enchilada plate. Excellent. The atmosphere is very homespun Mexican. The server was pleasant and attentive.

5 stars, hands down! I decided to start a Unilocal account because of this place. Having a Unilocal account will help me think more about all aspects of my dining experience — and I feel that this is important if one is spending the time and money to eat out. The ambiance: non-existent — it feels like you are eating in a laundromat with few bells and whistles… Call me crazy — but I love this ultra casual style. there are tablecloths and a tv mounted on the wall was playing ‘Daddy Day Care’. The service: very friendly. you can tell it is a family run place, and everyone is helpful to each other and to the customers. There is a window from the dining room to the kitchen covered up by a curtain, and you can hear the cook pound on the masa, and prepare things. The experience: M and I walked in and sat at a table by the window — and were immediately greeted with a basket of chips, sweet green tomatillo salsa, an excellent and super spicy smoked red salsa, and a bowl of steamy hot pinto beans, deliciously seasoned. Both salsas were very fresh tasting and absolutely wonderful — the chips however were not made there, and were pretty poor — a little too salty and they tasted like they were from a bag — which is fine — they turned out to be my only disappointment with the place. The menu was extensive, featuring all the favorites, plus papusas, tomales, and a couple things I had never seen before… such as huaraches -(an open faced sandwich made with masa flour, and piled heavy with ingredients). Prices were very friendly — traditional style tacos were 1.20, tomales –1.30, papusas 1.80, and mexican beer was 2.40. It was more expensive if you bought the meals — but I tend to steer away from these, as the tacos and a la carte fare at authentic mexican restaurants are usually incredible, filling, and much cheaper. The food arrived — I ordered a steak taco, a lengua taco, a papusa of beans and cheese, and two green chile tomales. I ate like a king, and everything was great. The tacos came un-garnished, served with a little bowl of chopped onion and cilantro. The meat was top-notch. The tomales were excellent — a little on the dry side, but the flavor made up for this, the papusa was just how i like them — slightly greasy, with excellent textures inside and out — somewhat crispy outside and a bit doughy in the middle, mixing with the chease and beans — mmm! M had a vegetarian option of the huaraches — which I believe was beans and cheese — It’s hard to say — because I was so excited about my food that I scarcely paid attention to her plate(which is uncommon!) She loved her food though, and we both left very satisfied and eager to spread the word about this little place. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to get out of town for a minute, check out the Crete main street and eat some great food! TIP — They have to run your card a second time to add a tip. Had I known this I would have tipped in cash, or asked them to add it to the first transaction. Not to be too preachy, but its always a good idea to avoid using cards at small businesses, as the processing fees are very unreasonable for them. I am guilty of doing it all the time, but all those fees add up to a huge amount.

i am giving this place 5 stars because in a small town where there is one street, and it’s one of the only places open on a Sunday morning, it deserves 5 stars! We were in Crete to drop off my nephew at college. So this is an extremely small community with an even smaller«town.» There are very few places to eat, and even fewer things to do. But with that said, this place actually has really good food. They bring you chips, salsa and a small bowl of frijoles de hoya to your table. We ordered guacamole with our chips and it was great! They made it fresh and you could tell. It’s really an authentic«Mexican» food place. They had menudo, chorizo, tacos de adobado, tamales, etc… My sister and I enjoyed the food. I ordered two tacos de adobado. They brought the trimmings separate. My sister ordered a pupusa which was yummy. It’s totally family run, with the children taking orders and delivering food to the tables. I think the mother and an aunt were cooking and the father was working the room of other customers. The service is slow, so be prepared. Also, don’t be surprised when you ask for coffee if you receive a cup of hot water with a bottle of nescafe to follow. So if you somehow find yourself in Crete, Nebraska, this is a great place to try. Keep in mind, this is not a top notch«San Diego» restaurant. But the food was good and reasonable priced.
