4.5 This. This is how lazy Saturdays in Middle Tennessee should be spent: eating to the point of discomfort in a small town. I can’t believe that I lived in Nashville for so long without knowing about Miller’s. I’m embarrassed by that. Some of my oldest, dearest friends and I made a mid-spring Saturday of strawberry picking(season’s over; hope you got ‘em while they were good), listening to good music and driving on back roads. Yes, the interstate system is a national boon. But when it comes to good weather, no deadlines and sunlight/daytime(this last part is key. If you think otherwise feel free to watch any number of horror films) back/country roads are where it’s at. And the back roads we traveled led to Miller’s. Knowing my need to eat all the food all the time, my friends were excited to bring me here. They were right to be excited — for me! As we parked in the gravel lot and walked up to the small wooden building, I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. These whistle-stops are endangered properties in this part of the country. While developers look for any reason to tear down old buildings and put up something devoid of charm and history in its stead, it’s up to the population(and our elected officials) to defend these old buildings and demand that they stay in place. A city without distinct charm is not a city worth living in. Tread carefully, Nashville; you’re at a very delicate point in your history. Thoughts racing, my nose and ears caught up with my brain and we walked in. Right on cue, the musician started his set of John Denver and other folksy classics. We made a bee-line to a six top and gathered the menus for our feast. Before I could concentrate on the savories, I noticed that we were sitting across from the dessert COUNTER. There’s an entire counter filled with all manner of pies, cakes and cobblers. I never had a chance. Our kind waitress came by to take our drink orders. As I am wont to do, I ordered a fruit tea. She gave me a 40 oz. glass of the stuff and told me there were free refills. Testify! As I started my descent into sugar madness(and started my friend’s son to a sugar addiction by letting him have some of my tea; sorry about that!), I decided I needed to order some savory food. Proteins come with two sides and a roll, so the value is there as is the mountainous amount of food. Come hungry. Since I was going all in on a country feast, I opted for the chicken with cornbread dressing, mac & cheese and mashed potatoes. When the food came to the table, I wondered if I’d bitten off a bit more than I could chew. The chicken was roasted(see? healthy!) not fried, which is the only reason I am here today to tell the tale. The cornbread dressing and gravy were delectable and went well with the mashed potatoes. The mac wasn’t my favorite(it was the cheesy soupy kind, rather than the baked, crispy kind; depending on which church you grew up in dictates how you like your mac & cheese) but it was good enough. Plus, I was able to sop up the soupy cheese with my roll. By the time I got to the end of my meal(and was on my third fruit tea), I was huffing and puffing. My friends were shocked that I was too full for dessert — as was I. It wasn’t until I saw their cobblers a la mode that I knew I needed to man/fatty up and eat some sweets! I’d been spying the Reeses cake since I walked in and the wait was worth it. This was a chocolate, peanut butter, butter, sugar bomb and I loved every gluttonous bite. I may have held my sides in pain all the way back to Nashville(upon arriving I passed out for the evening) but it was worth it and I’d do it again. If you live in Nashville and aren’t exploring/taking advantage of your metro, you’re doing it wrong. You are. Do better… or you can leave all the good stuff to the rest of us.

Last year my family moved to the southern part of Murfreesboro and visited Miller’s Grocery for the first time. I wish we had discovered this place sooner as it is excellent. We have a one year old son so we’ve only been for their lunch, but the food has been great every time we’ve been. We have been on many occasions now and it’s the restaurant we take all our visiting friends and family members to. Every time we’ve been I’ve tried either the battered Icelandic cod or the meatloaf. The batter on the fish is crispy while the fish is flaky. The meatloaf is delicious and I love the BBQ sauce served with it. For sides I always order the corn nuggets because they are little crispy pieces of yum. The other sides I’ve enjoyed are the mashed potatoes, fries and onion rings. My son loves the lima beans. He pushes everything else out of the way to get to the lima beans. Finally, the desserts are awesome. I’ve tried the carrot cake, pineapple jubilee, pecan pie and cobbler. All have been perfection, but the carrot cake is my favorite. I highly recommend Miller’s Grocery, just make sure you get there early because it does get busy and a long line can form on weekends.

I give Millers 5 stars, I have been several times and never disappointed with the service or food; never had a long wait, staff was always friendly and continually asked if we needed anything. loved the bluegrass music with The Howling Bros, Millers Grocery is one of my most favorite places to eat and have a fun time. I live in Chattanooga and find its just a nice ride to Christiana’ beautiful scenery all the way.

Best Sunday brunch around! Perfect southern food! Great staff, amazing food, cozy atmosphere and just plain fun. The line gets long so get there early. The set up can get crowded and people can get mean which is hysterical because most of them just got out of church and are rude in line. It’s a bit of a drive but overall worth it. We did go on a Friday and the prime rib was not that great, but I base my 4 stars on my Sunday experience.

If there were more stars, I would give them! This place was amazing! The Chicken and Dressing is simply amazing! Mac and Cheese, Potato Pancakes and squash casserole along with all the other sides are so hard to chose from but you can’t go wrong. Plus, I chose multiple desserts and loved them. Please visit here, you will not regret it.

This is an excellent spot. Very out of the way but that actually adds to the experience of going. I’d call this the best Meat + 3 outside of Nashville. Very country feel to it, there’s live music, and it has a very communal feel to it(though you’re not sharing tables like at Monell’s). Had a very good country fried steak, sides are all pretty solid. Corn nuggets are interesting. Cornbread is good, which actually I find to be pretty rare in this area. Catfish is great. A solid mac & cheese is a must for places like this, and they deliver. Desserts are fantastic, you can get up and go to the counter to pick what you want. Definitely recommended as a place to take visitors who haven’t had this kind of experience.

It’s OK, not«southern cooking» if that’s what you are looking for, caters to those folks who see wooden floors and old signs on the walls as «Southern» Get a GRIPFOLKS! This place is extremely overpriced for what you are getting, you can do much better for MUCH, MUCH less! I live almost in eyeshot of this place, I’ve tried it several times, different times of day… If I really, really want to stand in line and eat mediocre food, there are lots of other places to go…

I was excited to go to Miller’s last night after reading their menu on Google. Upon arrival the place was busy and lots of activity, the normal reaction is to be awed by this and your anticipation rises. I have eaten at many Southern and Soul food restaurants on my travels as I seek them out. Unfortunately I can only rate the food at Miller’s with 3 stars. The service was fair, I had to ask for a salt shaker with salt in it twice and for catsup 3 times, before I got it. The Menu on Google is not the Menu at Miller’s. I had purposely went to Miller’s for their fried oysters, when I ask the Waitress for them as they were not listed on the current menu, she gave me this look as if I was crazy. When I told her it was an online menu, she still didn’t believe me until I showed her. I suggest to Miller’s that they get this corrected, Frog legs were also listed on the Google menu, but not on the menu at Miller’s. My only other complaint is the fried Pork Chops. I purposely ask the waitress if they had a bone in them and she replied yes. When our food arrived my PC was about 1⁄8 of an inch thick, boneless and had some God Awful, Italian breading on it. A simple dusting of flour, salt and pepper was my anticipation. My wife had Prime Rib as ordered and my other guest had Catfish. Their food and all the sides were excellent. They both said they would return and I would with hesitation.

Absolutely wonderful from the quaint atmosphere to the fabulous food. My daughter and I had chicken salad with pineapple cheese salad and broccoli casserole. They offer fruit tea and an assortment of homemade desserts.

Delicious food that never disappoints. The chicken livers are my favorite and I also enjoy the side dishes as well. We are from out of town and always visit this restaurant when we come into town. The saw mill gravy is rich in flavor and is a fantastic topper to a lot of the food items.

Even better the second time! That is how you know it’s good. This place reminds me of family reunions when I was a kid. I look forward to coming back here again and again. Today I enjoyed the fried chicken livers special again – with extra gravy this time, then country fried steak with extra gravy, mac and cheese – which was phenomenal – and fried okra. Gravy on everything! Love it!

Definitely the best country«meat & two/three» places around! My wife & I started going here when we met and were living in Murfreesboro. Now, we live in Gallatin and make it a point to come here a few times a year(yes, we drive an hour for this food!). We love Miller’s! Everything I’ve had here is excellent. It’s one of the few places where I can pick anything on the menu and not be disappointed. Don’t forget dessert! Every dessert I’ve tried is fantastic. I never have room for it, so I always take it home with me. I guess you can kind of call it our ritual to place our order and then go pick out a dessert to make sure we get what we want. It might be gone by the time we’re done eating! The staff is friendly, and the bands that play on Friday & Saturday night are always a treat. Don’t forget to stop at the shop across the street.

If you like country cooking this place will hit your bumpers like a pinball machine on crack! It’s an old store converted to a restaurant and man is the food GOOD! Fork tender country fried steak, to die for green beans and smacking good squash casserole. And the sweet tea was A MAZING!!! Way off the beaten path, but we’ll worth the detour from the antiseptic interstate choke & pukes. Stop by, you won’t regret it. And as an addendum, I had a coconut custard pie for dessert that will make your tongue slap your brains out! That may have been the best coconut pie I’ve ever eaten. WOW!!!

We have been here 4 or 5 times in the last year and like to take our friends and family any time they come to town. The meatloaf and macaroni and cheese are to die for. We recently had the Millers grocery food truck come to our church and that was just as good as being there but without the great atmosphere

Since last fall, we’ve gone to Miller’s about a half dozen times – often taking friends and family for the experience – usually on Friday nights. It’s a great place if you want something besides the normal eateries. The food is usually good. The chocolate pie is amazing when it’s still warm from the oven. There has always been live music of varying levels of talent. The servers are nice, but always seem to be hurried which results in order delays, mix ups and apologies. While most entrees are less than $ 10, the bill can quickly grow when you add drinks and desserts(a must-have). Overall, it’s worth it and I’m glad we discovered Miller’s.

Totally off the beaten path and I didn’t actually believe we were going somewhere as we followed the map! But when we got here, we were shocked to find people lining up prior to their opening. The waitress was DELIGHTFUL and the food was amazing. The salmon patties, broccoli casserole, squash casserole, chicken fried steak, chicken tenders, Mac and cheese and corn nuggets — amazing. Special shout out to the homemade ranch dressing and the frozen fruit salad too. Oh…and the desserts. Peanut butter pie was the winner but the pecan pie was also a standout. Completely worth the trip off the highway along our road trip!!! PS also cute décor and seemed very clean. Whew!

Miller’s Grocery. An excellent slice of Southern Pie. Head down to Miller’s, it is quite a stretch from Nashville, but worth the drive if you have reason to head that far South. Great Southern cooking, homestyle, good portions, excellent offerings. Add in a little bluegrass or finger-pickin’ with a band/duo/trio from the front of the store while eating, and it makes for a special treat for your enjoyment. Highly recommended!

I’m gonna go out on a limb and say this is my favorite southern food I’ve had anywhere. I know you’re thinking«yeah right, what about so & so’s» but my entire table of 4 agreed. We live in Murfreesboro and this little gem of a restaurant is a cool 20 minute drive from our house. We walked in and there wasn’t a wait on a Saturday at 1pm. I would say you should expect an older and more close-minded crowd at this place, as we were definitely stared at for a majority of our meal. But that wouldn’t stop me from going back anyway because the service, décor, and food were all great. I guess old geezers just know good food too. Ha! I ordered the fried catfish with a side of mac & cheese, mashed potatoes, and fried okra. My husband ordered the salmon patties with corn nuggets and cole slaw. Both of our entrees were great and all of the sides were awesome. They make everything from scratch and you can tell. Our food came with cornbread that was also very good. My friend also ordered the catfish but with fried green tomatoes. Yum! Our other friend ordered the chicken livers with black eyes peas and turnip greens and he said it was all wonderful. We were all stuffed even though us girls had food to take home, but we decided to try some of their famous desserts. We chose the peach cobbler, the Reese’s peanut butter pie, and the devil’s food cake. The Reese’s pie was good but too decadent for me. I had one bite and that’s all I needed. I chose the peach cobbler and it was really good. I love cobblers! I didn’t personally try the devil’s food cake but our friend said it was good too. I will absolutely go back to this restaurant when I am craving southern food!
