This is our new favorite sushi place! They have an amazing California salad that is a deconstructed California roll and delicious shrimp fried rice.(OK, the secret is out. I’m not a huge sushi eater…)

First time here seafood was very fresh. Pleasant atmosphere. Service was superb. Plenty of parking available. Easy to get to.

Sushi is average… serving sizes ARENOT. Both rolls and sashimi portions are way small here. Seriously, I have never seen smaller portions. We got sashimi deluxe and a couple rolls. The pieces of sashimi were tiny, as in put 2 pieces together and it equals one piece just down the road on 372. If the rolls/sushi/sashimi was cheaper here so you just order more, then it would be no big deal. That isnt the case though, it is every bit as expensive for 60% the amount of food that you get at a typical place. I don’t recommend going here. It is too bad. The atmosphere in the restaurant is very nice.

Delicious sushi rolls. We were even given an ‘on the house’ tempura fish appetizer for no particular reason which was a pleasant surprize. Service is excellent.

Anyone who rates this restaurant below a 4 is crazy. My husband and I went on a Saturday at 10:00pm. The place was empty and the owner and hostess/waitress were very attentive and did not rush at all. We ordered tea, appetizers, and sushi and were out in 35 minutes after having the best meal. The owner recommended dishes to us and answered any question we had. He asked us how we liked every dish as we were eating it and he was not pushy. We did not order drinks, so I cannot speak to that. In terms of sushi though, this place knows how to create and serve unique, gourmet sushi dishes. For appetizers we ordered shrimp sashimi and it was pretty good, standard shrimp sashima, but came out very quickly. I had the jalepeno appetizer and it was out of this world. We also split the tuna dumpling and it was indescribably good. For dinner I got the Monster Roll and Crazy Tuna Roll. The Monster Roll had a nice, mild flavor, but didn’t knock me off my feat. The Crazy Tuna Roll, though, was one of the most delicious sushi dishes I’ve ever had. Husband had the Godzilla Roll and Dancing Eel Roll. He is very much the eel snob and he loved it. We were offered dessert, but were stuffed. Will definitely get it next time. The bill came to $ 69 and it was money well spent. If nothing else, the service was the best I’ve had at any sushi place in CT, but the food is something else entirely. I highly recommend to anyone who enjoys sushi.

This was my first time visiting Kuyi Sushi. I was eating a late dinner and wanted something quick but healthy and thought I would try it out. I got take out and was really impressed with the service. The gentleman who greeted me was so kind and chatted me up for just a bit while I was looking at the menu. After ordering, he offered me a glass of water while I wait… much appreciated. The service was quick and I got my order within 10 minutes. I ordered the miso soup and two rolls(California and spicy tuna). Both were very good! Not the absolute best sushi I’ve ever had but better than Asian Bistro in Rocky Hill and a nice step up from my go to sushi stop, Trader Joes. Overall, I was happy and would like to try a sit down meal there soon!

I’m glad that a good sushi place opened up near our house. There is a mediocre one down the street; but obviously who wants to doll out money for that? It that doesn’t satisfy my desire for weekly sushi, the grocery store sushi at Stop & Shop tastes better. But! Back to Kuyi: The decorations inside have low lighting the purple and blues tones that come from the laser light machine that is projected on the back wall. There’s a bubble water wall at the hostess area, that is a nice touch. We sat at the sushi bar because sometimes sushi places will give you a free mini seaweed salad or 2 rolls. There were 2 sushi chefs. The young sushi chef that interacted the most with us made us a squid roll with spicy tuna inside. He lightly seared the outside with a hand held kitchen blow torch. He drizzled spicy mayo and eel sauce back and forth on the rolls and plate. He also sprinkled wasabi roe on it. I don’t know if wasabi roe is a naturally derived thing but I ate it. We split(a definitely non-Japanese appetizer) of crab rangoon. Tasty, rich, and crispy it came with a slighty spicy duck sauce. I got the Naruto roll(Tuna, salmon, yellowtail, crab meat, avocado wrapped in cucumber) which I posted a picture of on here and sweet potato roll. One of our friends tried to rub is date-night meal in my face by sending me a pic of his Kuyi food with a caption, «U jelly?» That got me craving sweet potato. The sushi chef artfully arranged my 2 rolls on a plate around a mound of daikon. The daikon strands were nestled over a glowing blue LED cube which was all under an upside down martini glass. He put a single roll slice on the bottom of the martini foot, which served as a glass pedestal. It was delicious and pretty. We also split a scorpion bowl. Those drinks are dangerous because if they are made well you can’t really taste the booze. The restaurant has a back dinning room that I would imagine you can rent out for special occasions. The décor can be too much tackiness for some, they have wooden sailing ships on the railing of the table dividers, and a laser light feature that creates daises and fish shapes on the wall. I don’t mind it though, its not boring.

This place is the best kept secret in Cromwell. I came on a Friday night expecting to wait an hour(it would be worth it) and we were the only people in the restaurant. I don’t understand why all residents of Cromwell are not here eating by far the most delicious sushi and Japanese food in this area. The wait staff is super friendly and wonderful. And I am just in shock why this place doesn’t have a line out the door.

Excellent Japanese restaurant in Cromwell. The sushi is extremely fresh and high quality and their entrees are quite generous in portion as well as tasty. I’ve eaten here five time so far and give it a big thumbs up. Their tempura was especially good and is highly recommended. Give it a try!

I love that this place opened up. I was looking for a good place to eat sushi. The food tastes fresh and put together well(rolls don’t fall apart). At first I thought they were small portions but they really filled me up and they use a decent amount of fish in the sushi. The service is great and the restaurant is very clean.

It’s nice to have a sushi place close by in Cromwell. The restaurant itself is nicely decorated and clean. Our dinner was just as the rating says, A-OK. It was solid sushi. But, it didn’t have that«wow» factor for us. The drinks seemed pretty watered down(and expensive) and the food was decent but average.

Great selection of sushi and very tasty! The place is clean and efficient. We also got 15% off our check for no reason other than they’re a new place :)

The first time I went to Kuyi was eat-in, and the second time was to give it a second chance for take-out. Eat-In: In the restaurant, we sat at a very small table which barely fit the plates and cups for two people — they do not have a lot of tables either, but it was not crowded. I did not think the service was good — but I wont comment on that and I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt that they just opened and need more experience. We ordered the«Sushi for Two» which included«16 pcs sushi &1 special roll» — so we choose our special roll, but then another waitress came back and said it only comes with the«fancy» roll, not a choice of special roll. That’s fine, but it should specify that in the menu. The sushi was extremely small, and not cold enough for us(but that’s personal preference). We also got miso soups and an appetizer, and were no where near full when we left — if you’re very hungry, you’ll need to order a LOT. Take-Out: I did not get what I ordered for takeout. I ordered the sweetheart roll, among a few other things, that specifically says«Spicy tuna, crunch, mango topped with tuna». There was not one little spec of mango anywhere in my roll, instead it was filled with avocado, which I hate. It’s so upsetting to get home, sit down to eat, and realize you didn’t get what you ordered. Also, when placing an order online, it has you put in your credit card to pay, but when I walked in, there was a sign that said«15% off of eat in or take out orders» — of course, since I already paid online, I did not get 15% off. It was about 8:30 when I got the take-out, but there was only one couple in the entire restaurant — the plaza was literally deserted. I eat sushi a lot, and have never been bothered by it. Both times I’ve eaten at Kyui, I’ve had horrible stomach ache afterword. I think I’ll just drive to Wethersfield from now on, because the convenience of location for me does not make up for the negatives.

Huge fan of small businesses and this is a great add to the area considering the other sushi place that must not be named is terrible. I will be frequenting. The lunch special prices and portions are awesome. So far I have tried the steak hibachi lunch which was delicious and highly recommended. I am looking forward to trying the rolls and have heard many other diners rave about how great they are.

I was in the area for one night and wanted sushi for dinner. I looked at other places and decided to look for another cuisine. As I was driving around checking out the area, I stumbled across this place. I decided to try it. I am glad that I did. I am not sure what some of the others mean by their negative reviews. The quality, quantity, and taste of the Chirashi was top notch. I was actually surprised that it was only $ 18.95 before they gave me a discount that I didn’t ask for. As another reviewer indicated, they were so attentive that they knew what I wanted before I knew what I wanted. I think that those that offered negative reviews should give it another chance. This place is great.

I was excited to try a new sushi place in the area, but this was a one-and-done deal. The sushi was meh, at best. Very small portions. Very weak drinks. I’ve had much better sushi at other nearby places. I completely overlooked the super slow service: over 20 minutes for a drink, an hour and a half for food. Completely understandable for a new establishment. They were apologetic & very sweet about the slow service, they definitely acknowledged it. I let that pass, & am still only rating 3⁄5 based on the FOOD(creativity, quality, taste, & presentation). If I incorporated the slowness & atmosphere it’d be much lower. There was weird classical music that didn’t really mesh with the neon glow lights/stars/shapes flashing on the walls & ceiling. They did remodel nicely though from when it was Señor Ponchos for a short time. I have no idea how people are saying this is the best sushi place around. Mind boggled. I feel bad because they’re new & seem really nice, but I won’t be going back.

Best sushi and service in the state of Connecticut! I honestly at one point thought I was at a day spa the way that the staff took care of my needs before I even knew what I needed. Very impressed with the management and professional demeanor of the whole place. The sushi was exquisitely organized and prepared by a very professional looking and acting sushi chef. It was such a good experience I recommend trying this place if you like sushi places.
