It was fine. Small town, but nice bridge. Lots of old folks like to visit this bridge.

What an excellent bridge put together to make the landmark part of the city, the county, and even the state. This may not be a good idea to be on the bridge if you have fear of heights or claustrophobic. «Be good to your mother-in-law»!

this is the biggest highlight in croswell. the swinging bridge is pretty awesome, there are only a handful of suspension bridges left in the U.S. There was a lot of jumping on it to shake it when i was a kid, but it’s really scary when there is sometimes a board missing! The park is lovely and is maintained nicely every year, despite the bored croswell kids tagging everything. The new stairs into the woods is really great. be sure to check out the woods along the river. plus, my dad drove his parents car into the black river when he was a kid, so that is a pretty funny story. It’s permanent brown colour comes from pollution, so no fishing. it also used to flow more when i was a kid, but there is no one maintaining the river so it has gotten increasingly shallow and less vibrant. also, if you go in the spring after a lot of snow it usually floods the whole park.

KAYAKINGTHEBLACKRIVER: We bought kayaks last year and were determined to use them. Yeah, that barely happened. So this year we PROMISED ourselves we would use them. Well, my cottage is in Lexington and Lake Huron is a BIG lake. It’s not bad to kayak on, but we were really hoping for something a little less… vast. Then we remembered our many visits to the famous Croswell Swinging Bridge over the Black River. There is barely a current and besides running underneath the bridge, we had no idea where it went. Well we scouted it out on Saturday and found a nice little launch on the parkside of the bridge. Sunday, we loaded up the kayaks and headed to the launch. The river is not known as the black river for nothin’ — it’s a permenant brown color, and has almost no current(btw, I have no idea why it’s really named the Black River — I’d have named it the Brown River, but I digress). We kayaked for about 2.5 hours up and back. It was so peaceful and serene. Honestly, I have no idea where were were in terms of distance, but it was super nice. It didn’t hurt that it was a perfect day, but I would recommend this river for a leisurely kayak trip.
