Going out of business just 2 years after they opened. Good riddance. This place took over what used to be the Spinning Wheel Bait Shop on US-141 between Crystal Falls and Amasa. The old run-down bait shop got a facelift and some badly needed garbage cleanup in the area behind it. However, it ended there. Though it was close to our cabin, seemed every time we went out for our daily fix of Jilbert’s the ice cream was very expensive and the scoops were skimpy. We concluded that if the owner served us, we often got undersized portions, but if her employee did it, the cone was more what we’d expect for the money. We stopped coming for that reason, especially with a place like Sommers in CF that has the best deal on ice cream around. Looks like we’re not the only ones who skipped over this place. BJ’s Scoops never really promoted themselves a lot in town, even when the main ice cream & gift shop by the turn of the road in Crystal Falls closed down. BJ’s Scoops tried to get into selling sandwiches and other food, but I think a combination of bad location and stinginess did them in. We like to support local business, but not if the business rips you off.
