Hands down, no questions asked, the best place in town! Ron’s service is by far superior to all other options. The only down side is the necessity to make an appointment because his services are always in demand! Thank you Rick!

I don’t even live in Crystal Lake anymore, but I try to wait to get my car looked at until I’m in town because they’re so good! When I’ve taken my car elsewhere, they’ve overlooked things that Rons always catches! I know I can trust them.

I have been taking all of my cars here for 15 – 20 years. Most honest and always helps me with all of my stupid questions. Never charges me for things I don’t need. I will never bring any car I own that isn’t under a factory warranty anywhere else ever period.

I have been fortunate to have a company car the last 20yrs. Recently I took another position in the company that was more $, but no car. So I was looking for a car that was only a few years old. I called around for someone to inspect a vehicle before I bought it. Everywhere I called wanted $ 99 and couldn’t take me for a week. If I’m buying a car I can’t wait a week for someone to look at it, ridiculous. Some of my neighbors use Ron’s service and they swear by them. I was getting ready to pull the trigger on a car yesterday, so I called Ron’s. Rick said he could do it for $ 30 and he also told me that they were booked solid but would squeeze me in; in between jobs, just come in when I was ready. I get there about 2pm, the place is bustling with customers coming and either picking up their car or dropping it off, all the while the phone is ringing off the hook and Rick cool as a cucumber answers every call. After about 40mins, Rick got my car up in the air and looked it over himself. 10mins later he calls me into the garage to see for my self, it’s clean with no visible issues and all the fluids looked good as well. I was out in a matter of minutes to bring it home to show my wife.
The only thing that Rick didn’t do was take it for a drive around the block, which I know most places would do. HOWEVER, they were very busy and had already drove it a few miles from the dealership with the radio off and didn’t hear anything weird and it handled well. I know he would have taken it out if I had mentioned anything about how it drove.
Special kudos to Ron, Rick’s dad for running a business that is trustworthy, dependable and won’t rip you off.

Rick is honest and will fit you in, his father used to run the place, and you can see why it’s a local favorite. Every-​time I go to another place because it’s closer to my house, I end up calling and bringing in my suburu to Rons.

I took my girlfriends 2003 Toyota Camry to Ron’s Service after it failed the state emissions test. They quickly diagnosed the problems with the vehicle and had the repairs done the following business day. They also took the car back to get retested so I had the passing paperwork in hand when I picked up the car which was a pleasant surprise. The service was friendly and the price was about what I expected for the needed repairs. I will be taking our cars back to Ron’s for any further car repair needs.

I’m really shocked by all the positive reviews here… makes me wonder their credibility. Most people i know don’t go here because it is too expensive. Yeah they get the job done but you’ll pay and the management is is usually rushed and kind of rude. I also beleive they overlooked some critical issues with my car that i’m dealing with now.

TRUSTWORTHY!!! They do a great job too! Incredibly nice guys, fast service quality service and very trustworthy. Just an amazing community mechanic these guys are awesome. We’ve been a long time customer so many of our problems, if there just a real simple quickfix he won’t even charge us! TRUSTWORTHY!

Rick services all of our vehicles. He even checks cars for us before we buy. He is honest and they always do a great job. You always feel he is fair and trusts what he recommends. You will notice his lot is always full. In this case, that is a good sign.

Ron runs a great and honest garage. I have taken my son’s Firebird there about 5 times and he always takes good care of it. The car has well over 200K miles and runs like a top thanks in part to Ron’s Service

Ron and Rick and company have serviced my family’s cars for 20+ years. We are moving to Chicago soon and Ron’s Service is one Crystal Lake business I will miss terribly! Hell, I’ll have my cars towed there form the city if I have to!

I finally have found a mechanic that I trust! Thanks Ron’s. They took care of my car and didn’t try to BS me into buying anything I didn’t need. Rick was the guy that helped me out here. I am now recommending this place to all my friends. It sure is nice to have a place that you can trust.

We have used Ron’s for over 20 years, first back when they were also a gas station. They have always treated us fairly, no charge for looking at our cars and they are up front in telling you if it is worth doing the repair. They are a bit inconvenient as a location for us sometimes we take are cars else where and inevitably we regret not taking them to Ron’s instead.

Been going here since I’ve been driving (about 9 years.) I take my car here when I’m too busy or don’t have the drive (pun not intended…) to do the work myself. I generally don’t trust shops enough to leave my car there without me being there, but I make a huge exception here. Both of the owners (Ron and his son, Rick) are very knowledgeable, honest, and do great work. They will tell when something can wait to be fixed… you don’t find that too often with most mechanics.
Their diagnostic work is also very good, as well. I had some engine issues that no one else could figure out. I took my car here and it ran great by the end of the day. The pricing is also very fair… on par with most other places in the area.
FYI, the place is very, very busy. They have a lot of bays and technicians on staff, but unless you make an appointment or something, you can probably expect not to have your car for a few hours. The way I look at it, though, is that they always fix it right the first time and you won’t waste any of your time with a misdiagnosed problem or sub-​par work. Nothing is more frustrating than taking your car to a shop to be fixed and the problem not being corrected… this doesn’t happen here. These guys have been in business for 30 years… they know their stuff.
I wholeheartedly recommend this shop.

Outstanding auto repair shop!

My wife and I moved here 2 years ago. Now retired, we were originally from Detroit and I owned an independant auto repair shop for 30 years. You might imagine I was fussy about who I took our 2 cars to for service when needed, so I began scouting around and looking for referrals from neighbors. I’m happy to say I found the right shop in Ron’s Service. Initially I looked for a neat, clean place, adequate equipment, straight talk and most of all, the owner on the premises.
Ron is semi-​retired now and does the towing for son Rick who now runs the shop. I’ve always been treated fair and honestly and not just because I used to be in the business, but I’ve seen how other customers are handled. They keep their promises, their work is great, they know what they’re doing and will go out of their way to help. I would highly recommend Ron’s Service.
