Didn’t get to try the Spinach & Feta quiche, they were out. The Coronation Chicken sand was very good. My son had the Roast Beef sandwich. He said it was very good also. The ciabatta was soft and fresh. Must try the shortbread, caramel, chocolate dessert! Yummy!

We stopped here because of the Unilocal reviews. I tried to order eggs over medium but was told that the only eggs they have are scrambled… they weren’t good. The bacon is pre– cooked reheat style too and also not good. Cute place but they should serve fresh, real food.

The atmosphere makes this place… So cozy and so inviting! I enjoyed some very strong coffee with a delicious hazelnut flavor! Quiche was ok. The crust tasted a little underdone. Overall a nice family place and with good food and value!

Best lunch in the area. The food was fresh and prepared to perfection. Asparagus soup was excellent. No one makes a better lemon meringue pie anywhere. It literally melts in your mouth. One of my favorite places to eat

Recently stopped in for lunch. The sandwiches were enjoyable. The quality of the bacon and bread were very nice, exceptional for the area. The real gems are the dessert items. My party and I ordered just about every option and they were all very enjoyable. I thoroughly enjoyed the cream scone. The caramel chocolate shortbread is a bit sweet, but probably highly enjoyable with a cup of black coffee. The cheesecacke, apple cake, and almond pie were all very good. A nice place to stop for brunch or lunch. Wish they were open on Sundays.

Great fresh sandwiches, good soup, and awesome dessert. We didn’t try the quiche because they ran out of the more interesting flavor we wanted. Next time! The BLT, the bacon brie, and the roast beef sandwiches were all tasty. The bacon brie could use some greens and a swipe of chutney, jam, or preserves for contrast but was still decent. Great little side salad… but very small. Get the homemade dill honey mustard dressing. Asparagus soup was good but not great. Needed something but not sure what. Tasted like split pea. You should be able to tell the difference. Maybe add some bacon pieces and lettuce on top as garnishes. Now, the desserts! The apple thing was amazing… for a couple of bites or a taste. Needs some ice cream to cut through all that sweetness. The cream scone was awesome! The whipped cream was heavenly against the crumbly, excellent scone. The caramel thing was too decadent without some espresso. Watch out! The lemon cheesecake, divine. Overall, excellent place that we’ll be enjoying again.

Cute little café. Very clean and quaint, with a polite staff. My husband and I stopped in here when we visited for the Manatee Festival. I was quite pleased with my coffee and tuna croissant. My husband enjoyed his panini. We would go back again.

Came here for lunch and I wasn’t very thrilled. The staff was nice, but the food was okay and the menu is very limited. I don’t think I’d come here again.

You can expect delicious quiche and lattes at The Highlander! We enjoy having our tasty breakfast under the canopy of live oaks draped with Spanish moss while listening to the morning chorus of bird songs filling the air. It’s a delightful café!!!

We went to see the manatee, afterwards Unilocaled a place that made home made soups. Great reviews, we decided to give it a try. They have a soup and quiche specials of the day. My friend got the bacon, broccoli, spinach and feta quiche. She said it was good but just on par with everyone else. My husband had the bacon and brie chabatta with a house salad. He was impressed with his and loved that the standard house salad came with fresh fruit on top. I had the tomato basil soup, the savory was there but the tomatoes had to much acidity, maybe used canned? After adding hot sauce I was happy. This was an incredibly busy place. Oh they serve breakfast and had live entertainment. We collectively agreed, «It was just ok.»

As of December 2, 2014 it’s open. Vegan panini was created for me with delicious side salad at 8:10 am. Espresso was served in China demitasse cup. So elegant. Lovely area with seating under huge oak tree in front. I’ll be back

Great coffee, clean restaurant and friendly staff. Not sure that much more needs to be said. We had a bagel sand which and a ciabatta breakfast sand which. We are definitely coming back later today for their soups and sandwich combos. Highly recommend it.

Cute little restaurant with good food and great service. We showed up on a Friday for lunch and while it wasn’t packed it was still quite busy with regulars and visitors. Always a good sign! I had the roast beef sandwich and side salad. The sandwich is the perfect size, hot and delicious. The salad was a nice size and topped with pieces of mandarin, pineapple, and a few grapes. Tasty! This is a great stop for a quick bite to eat after a morning swimming with the manatees!

The Highlander Café has hearty sandwiches on fresh ciabatta bread with side salads that are artistic with homemade dressing and homemade soups along with various coffees. Today, I had the wonderful Coronation Chicken salad which had a lot of curry on a fresh ciabatta bread. It was served with a delightful side salad with mixed greens, fruit and fresh veggies chopped just the right size. The dressing was so good with a hint of fresh dill– it made my tongue want to slap my gums! The bagpipe player was an extra treat! I’ve been here a few times and have never been disappointed!
