You never know what’s going to happen driving down to New Orleans. Say you’re running southeast from Vicksburg on 27 to catch US55 at Crystal Springs, MS(a drive I recommend) and you’d like a little breakfast. You stumble around in Crystal Springs until at 106 South Jackson you hit Ken’s. It’s a hole in the wall but decorated like they’re trying to be someplace and that’s a good effort. Ken whips you up sausage and eggs double quick(«I don’t play» he says with a grin) The foods OK but you really notice the biscuit. It’s more than a biscuit; crunchy, buttery crust with a smooth flavor, call it a confection. Something’s going on here. And that gets you to wondering about the pastry counter so you step over and gander. Well, doughnuts are the Breakfast of Champions as John Belushi said but these aren’t the little chocolate doughnuts he was talking about. These are good sized and the chocolate’s the just right color and running down their sides. Bought a half-dozen to go and they were a bit of heaven. The perfect doughnut and a premium chocolate. I’ve eaten chocolate doughnuts all over America, coast to coast and Chicago to New Orleans, nothing compared to these. Flavorful, perfect texture and I don’t know where Ken gets his chocolate but I wish I did. There were other pastries but nothing extravagant. Ken doesn’t attempt more than he can deliver and he certainly doesn’t play!
