This was my first experience here as I’m traveling though the area. Once again I use Unilocal to help me decided what the locals favor. I was not disappointed. The atmosphere is casual and inviting. The dining room is open and spacious. Upon arriving I was immediately met by a gentlemen I presumed it was the manager, nice touch. The service was swift and thorough and my meal was as advertised and delicious. I had the hibachi shrimp from the lunch menu and the portions were generous. While there were cheaper lunch options the serving size was proportionate to the price. I highly recommend! I think it also important to mention I was thanked and asked to return upon my exit. Really first class experience.

I went here recently with a family group for some good food and a good time. I had the Mango Salmon Salad(chopped salmon, mango, tempura flake with spicy mango sauce) — that was excellent and completely worth the trip! Very tasty and nicely spicy. If you like salmon at all, you should try this salad. Our chef was Jonny and he was pleasant and entertaining. Unfortunately for him, we weren’t very interactive people but there was a neighboring grill with a group of kids that were having a total blast. We got a variety of grilled items and all were tasty. The veggies and rice were good too. The scallops were really good — how could they still be so tender after being on the grill as long as the chicken? We were mystified by the sauces — 2⁄3 of the sauce dish was automatically filled with a mayo-based sauce(«yum-yum» sauce) while I prefer ginger and mustard sauces(those were provided later but the sauce trays were full by then). The amount of food was quite a lot for the price and a good deal. We also split some edamame and a couple rolls — fairly standard although the sweet potato roll was a new one for me. The floors in the who place were very slippery and it was worse in the restrooms — I had on athletic shoes but was sliding all over the place(I suspect they waxed the floor). Be careful if you have dress shoes! This was a good experience and we will go back the next time we’re in town. P. S. This is in the same location as a place that was called Shogun — local folks still refer to it as that but the name was Ninja as of April 2015.

Great hibachi chef, and terrific options for vegetarians as well. They have 11 different veggie rolls, ten of them vegan! Meat eaters at our table loved the scallops and filet mignon. Service was terrific too, and they were packed!

I was leary about trying this place at first because our dining experiences in Cullman have been less that spectacular. Having said that we first went on Friday valentines weekend. We didn’t care to do the hibachi so we got a booth, we had a short wait time considering how crowded it was. My daughter got the shrimp hibachi meal, which was delicious. I got the chicken teriyaki bento box. The chicken was tender, fresh and delicious. Soup was good and I love the salad with the miso dressing. Husband got the steak teriyaki bento, the steak was tender perfectly cooked. Got a couple of sushi rolls which were done well and tasty. Both the chicken and steak were very fresh. We went to stix and their meat tastes as if it was previously frozen. Went again last night and once again had a fantastic meal. Sushi rolls were good, steak perfect again. We will definitely be going back.

I like the restaurant better now that it’s Ninja rather than Shogun. Apparently when it was Shogun, one of the staff stabbed another in the parking lot and the Shogun franchise dropped the name even though all involved were terminated. I don’t do the show because it’s the same grill show at every other hibachi grill, but the sushi is done very well. The staff has a few issues though. Keeping in mind that I eat here one or two times a week, they need to keep a better eye on the front door. Every time I come, I wait approximately 60 seconds before anyone notices I’m there to seat me. The waitresses are all friendly, but I have noticed that the skinny blond is more attentive to couples and if you are the only single in her area you can expect to have your glass filled last. Today for example, I was here for five minutes before the other patrons in her area but my order was taken last. The homely brunette is just plain slow, so I would take the blond as my waitress over her any day. There is a young Chinese waitress though that is the exception to the rest. She is attentive, professional, and quick. There is an older lady who waits as well, and her service is spot on. Pricing is about double what you would spend at a local Mexican restaurant, but well worth it. Overall score is a 4 because of the quality and skill of the sushi chefs.
