I love going to the library, but this one is in need of some serious work. First, the place needs to be updated. It looks old and tired, even though it is only 13 years old! It needs a Facelift inside. Two, this library does not get in all the new books and DVDs. I lived in Northern VA and they got just every new movie and book under the sun. This library is not keeping up with the times. Three, they are not open on Sunday during the school year(or the whole year for that matter!). When kids are in school, the most convenient days of the week to go to the library are going to be Saturday and Sunday when they are not in school. So I think it is a great disservice to the community that this location is not open on Sunday for the kids during the school year. I asked about this and someone told me, that they had to close on Sunday’s due to budget reasons. Is it really that expensive to open the library from 12 Noon to 5PM?!? I appreciate the low overdue fine prices and the low prices on computer printer copies, but if the library is a budget crunch they need to raise the prices. For the copies and book fines, raise the price to 15 cents a day instead of 5 cents. Four, the book selection for teens is extremely limited. When I lived in Northern VA I noticed they had all the latest animé books and young adult books. Five, it would be nice if they added a notary service. Six, more events! When I lived in Northern VA, I noticed that the events they held for kids were always packed. I don’t really see that many events going on at this library for kids. The benefit is two fold, it gets kids into the library and eager about it, but it also causes the parents to have to come along and thus support the library as well. The service at this library has always been passable, if not particularly friendly.

What a lovely way to support the local library, which has taken some severe budget hits/cuts recently. Run every year around this time, offerings this time ranged from a slight smattering of perennials, some tiny herb plants(not much more than cuttings), & some slightly overgrown veggie 6-packs. AND — flats of LOVELY pansies & violas. What was particularly nice was that the pansies were grown in 6-packs of same variety/colors, thus not forcing one to buy packs of mixes — you were able to put together your own flats of colors of your choice. What a treat! I left with 2 flats of gorgeous deep burgundy, bi-colored light-&-dark burgundy, clear orange, clear yellow, clear white, deep royal purple, three 6-packs of different bi-colored violas(deep purple & bright orange bicolor being my favorite), & a couple of 6-packs of Dusty Miller. $ 32 total, & all going to the library. Works for me.
