I really love this place. I retired when I was 50, and I was at loose ends as to how to fill my time. Most of my friends were still working, so I needed a place where I could meet some new people and enjoy my creative pursuits. I met a friend at the gym who told me about the Culver City Senior Center. I was reticent to visit because I did not consider myself a senior. Although I was one of the younger members, I quickly realized that many people, although they are older, are still very interesting and have lead vital lives. I begin a karaōke program there which has flourished since 2004. Now I take acting classes, improv classes and have really enjoyed the friendships that I have fostered there. The place is getting crowded though, and they have a parking challenge from time to time. I really wish more senior centers like this one would be erected throughout the city. It is a shame that baby boomers and older people have very few options when it comes to how they can spend their retirement years. Many are isolated and lonely. I’m not.
