This is a great place to go with friends(if your a guy) everyone there is respectful I go a few times a month. I wouldn’t go with girl though there’s usually no girls other than the bartenders which are really nice. 5 dollar bottle beers and 5 dollar beers off tap they have lagunitas my fave. They also serve lower end wines for 6 dollars a glass. Would be a 5 star place if they served drinks over 20% Alcohol Content reason why a few of my friends don’t like coming here because they don’t drink beer only shots and mixed drinks other than that this place is great! Oh yeah and they have 2 pool tables 6 dollars an hr which is very reasonable

I know nothing about Culver City, but I do like to go this place called Hero Complex Gallery for art shows. I had some time to kill and I found myself in El Alteno Bar. I was happy I found it… thanks again Unilocal. What you get is a sweet dive bar cash only atmosphere. Where the bartenders are super friendly. Ice cold beer for a good price is LA??? Yeah for reals it does exist. You just gotta find the right spots and El Alteno is one of those places. I got to kill a hour or so here with a nice conversation with the cute girl behind the bar. When I find my self needing to kill some time while I wait for Hero Complex to open up you can bet I will be here just hanging. Thanks again for the great hospitality and keep the music cranking and the brews cold! CHEERS!!!

New favorite local bar since its so close to home. Beer only. No liquor. I love the atmosphere and music. Not sure why, maybe because I’m Mexican haha The bartender Jatziry was so friendly. ;)

Cool little place, cheap beer. Wish they had liquor license. Good selection on jukebox and very nice bartenders.

This is an old profile for a bar that was apparently sold to people who don’t give a shit. Here’s the current listing: Do not go here!!! This is a total shit hole. It’s a filthy dive that poorly caters to the local latino population. Cheap beer and very loud romanticos/rancheros music. Always empty. While it has a LOT of potential to be a friendly, multi-cultural hangout for a diverse and friendly neighborhood, and I wish it were, it’s just too poorly run to merit a visit. ABSOLUTELYFILTHY!!! An example of the filth. They have a vinyl bar cushion along the bar where the vinyl layer is worn off leaving only cloth that can’t ever be cleaned and never is. If you wan’t drinks and a latin flavor go across the street to El Baron.

I have gone on numerous occasions. It is a very small bar that offers a limited variety of bottled beers(and beers only; nothing on tap). Unfortunately it is primarily a cash-only bar; if you’re carrying plastic be prepared to pay $ 20 minimum. All beers are priced the same — $ 5. You may also order a Michelada, prepared with your choice of beer, for about $ 8. As previous reviews have stated it is a local bar, very laid back, and offers limited options. The bartenders are always kind and open to converse. The Alteño Bar also offers pool, $ 6 flat rate, and two screens to watch your sport of choice. In summation, if you’re looking for a spot to just relax & enjoy a cold one, this is your spot. On the other hand, if you’re looking to socialize/mingle and/or go dancing — you’re at the wrong place! I’m rating this 3⁄5 stars due to the limited options and steep price for plastic. 4⁄5 stars for service.

Awesome little bar in Culver City. It’s a simple bar nothing fancy BUT the art outside of the building is awesome. There is a huge COPE2 mural along with Sand Oner, REAS and more. If you dig street art then you should swing by here.

Small working-class bar on Washington. Cheap Mexican beers, two pool tables, and absolutely no pretentiousness. LOVEIT. *Note: Some of the reviewers below mentioned this was a cash-only place, but I’m pretty sure I saw a $ 10 credit card minimum sign there. They may have recently started accepting plastic, but I guess you’d better bring some cash along just in case.

finally took the time to support this joint… wine/beer only cash/cards pool table, foolsball, jukebox, random hispies(yes, hispanic peeps), relaxed vibe. mexican bottled beer ranging from corona(piss) to carta blanca and bohemia. 6 draft beers — piss(blue moon, stella) decent(sam adams oktoberfest, long hammer ipa, alteno house ale, peroni) after cashing out @ 2am… bar tender said that tip was included on bill…$ 24 for 4 beers, not too bad.

I’m not sure if it was the non-matching glassware seemly resulting from combing through several garage sales, the huge spring strapped to the mens’ room door as a make-shift door closer, or the huge picture of Che that earned this bar a little spot in my heart. Just as easily, anyone can recreate this charming setup in their garage with a few milk crates, a TV, and a pool table; but that would be missing the point – you’d still be at home. This is a bar for those looking for nothing except to get out of the house: no ambiance, no sorority girls, no cocktails – just beer and TV. The comforting disarray of home without actually being there.

Yes– it is true– laid back, cool bartenders, funky music(everything from Rancheras to Death Metal), beer, wine and now they accept credit cards. Go there because you want to relax and play some foosball, not because you want to show off your new hipster clothes. Authentic in the sense that it is not pretentious nor trying to be anything that it is not… it is a BAR where you can get a nice selection of Mexican beers and catch whatever sport is on the Sports channel.

Too bad i found out about this spot after the company I worked for moved to Burbank from Culver city. This is a good end of the day /night bar real low key. Bar tenders are super cool. also they have a sweet indoor looking open air smoking patio. I don’t think I would call this a blue collar bar, but if you work in Dickies this is def a place for you

I really like this bar and as the other reviews warn, it’s very«authentic». Beer & Cash only. One of those computer jukeboxes. Torn up seats and sticky tables. The bartender gals were super cute and nice and they give you chips and salsa(which i didn’t try). It even comes with it’s own super drunk mexican dude falling off the stool. Pretty great for the new and improved culver city.

I love this place, but be forewarned. This is a local bar, really laid back, and very low on options. Beer only Cash only and there is a chance that your server might not speak english(but it’s never a problem). Prices are fair and they have a pool table and foosball table.

I thought this was an ironic Mexican themed bar in this cool new artsy redevelopped neighborhood. I was wrong. It’s the real thing. Stop in for a Chivas game. They have recreated the old country here to perfection. I hope you like tuba music. Actually, I will probably go back.
