Just got back from a conference and I was really hungry. I decided to order steak and I was asked how I like my steak so I told them medium. After about 20 minutes I finally got my food. I went up to my room and I was so disappointed to see that my steak was well done!!! Any other time I would’ve went back to the restaurant and talk to the manager but It was already almost 7pm and my son and I wanted to go to the mall across the street. I can say that the flavor of the steak was ok. I would give it 2.75 stars out of 5. Needless to say I will not order steak from this restaurant again!!! I dont even think I will go back.

So my date and I drove up to the Culver Hotel for the first time ever. Only now it’s got a different name. We parked and walked in the front door. There was a coffee shop off to the right. But where was Marin Company Steak & Spirits? I asked a guy behind the desk and he pointed to the coffee shop. We walked in. A «B”-health grade card was on a wall. We chose a table and the only waiter in the place(we were also the only customers at 8:30 on a Friday night), brought the menu cards. We scanned the bill of fare. Where the hell were the steaks? Sandwiches, yes. Salads, yes. I picked at the menu, wondering if it opened up. It didn’t. The restaurant name was not on the menu, which was unusual, to say the least. The waiter took our drink order. My date ordered wine, I ordered a vodka collins with a cherry. I asked where the steaks were and he gave us three options verbally. I chose the New York cut. The drinks arrived. Mine was distinctly collins flavored. If there was any vodka in it, it was news to me. And no cherry. The salads arrived and they were perfect. Later, he delivered the entrees. The baked potato turned out to be mashed and only slightly warm in some places, cold in others. The steak was thin. I lay my steak knife and fork on the tray and look for the waiter. I told him to take it back and warm it up. He did. When he brought it back to me, I thanked him… and looked for the fork. No fork. I summoned the waiter. He brought me another setup, which included the fork. Nice! I was going to grab the steak knife, but it too was missing. The waiter was out of the room. I chased him down and he brought me a steak knife. The absence of other customers was nice, it made hearing conversation with my date easier. The food was OK but Denny’s is better. The bill, with a 10% tip(he didn’t deserve more), came to $ 88. Denny’s is much less expensive(but they usually don’t have liquor). This hotel charges $ 5 for parking. I did not see any sign to the effect it is free with validation. I had the card with me. Signs indicated payment must be made before going to the exit gate. We looked as we walked to the car but did not see any payment machines. I returned to the front desk and asked about payment and/or validation. The man told me to go back to the restaurant. The bartender coded the card, we drove to the gate, I put the card in, waited 15 seconds for the machine to think about it, then it spit the card back out. I removed the card and the gate went up. Why the heck did it give the card back? Never seen that before. And then we escaped.

I am EXTREMELY picky when it comes to food, restaurants and the wait staff so for me to give a Hotel restaurant 5 stars is a very big deal. First off our waiter was awesome. He had a good since of humor, was easy to talk to and although I was very particular about how I wanted my filet mignon to be cooked, he knew exactly what I wanted. Everything was delicious! Which was a really big surprise. The filet mignon was cooked to perfection. The mashed potatoes were like whipped cream and the veggies were cooked just the way I love them(a slight crunch with a faint buttery taste). My daughter had the lemonade and she said it was VERY good. That’s a lot coming from a 16 year old. I had apple pie and ice cream and my daughter had chocolate cake and ice cream for dessert. I was a little skeptical when I saw that the ice cream came in a cup but it was very yummy. I scooped it from the cup onto my my pie and was pleasantly surprised with both. I also had there Breakfast Buffet all 3 days of my stay and the food didn’t disappoint. The omelet station & French toast were the best and my waiter Rogelio was too. 5SOLIDSTARS for our dinner & breakfasts.

So we stayed at the 4 Points Westside(separate review) for one night on a weekend trip and decided to go to Marin’s for dinner partly because we got 2 free drink tickets upon check in since there weren’t any complimentary upgrades, we were tired and didn’t want to go anywhere, and they also gave us a 25% off certificate for hotel guests upon check in. Plus, I could get SPG points with my SPG credit card. ATMOSPHERE: There is a sports bar side with 3 tv’s and a more restaurant side. There are tables at the sports bar side in addition to bar seating. We opted for the bar side since the restaurant side was totally empty and some games were on. Surprisingly it was around 65% full so it looked relatively busy. FOOD: Menu was«American» with sandwiches, burgers, wraps and more expensive entrees. 1. Cosmopolitan — cranberry heavy and I guess they add simple syrup too because the last sips were super sweet. Except for the last part it was good. Could have been stronger though. 2. Manhattan — tasted like straight Maker’s Mark. I’m not a Manhattan expert either. 3. Portobello mushroom sandwich — this was actually quite good. Lots of veggies like red peppers, onions, lettuce, tomato in addition to the Portobello with cheese. You had choice of salad, fruit or fries and I chose fries. Fries were good thicker shoestring type. They all stuck together in one clump though which was odd which I only noticed after trying to pick up one fry and picked up 20. 4. Salmon — came with mashed potatoes and veggies. Tasted was good. Nothing spectacular. 5. Complimentary popcorn and spiced peanut/cracker mix — bowls were quite large and you could probably get full off these bar snacks if you really wanted to. Both were yummy junk food. SERVICE: Very slow. They had the 1 bartender serving food and doing the bar. He was very nice though. Good thing we weren’t in a rush and our room was just upstairs anyways. PRICES: Overpriced entrees considering quality since the salmon was over $ 20 for something very average. The Portobello sandwich was reasonably prices at $ 9.50. I would order this again if I happened to be here again. On top of this we did get that 25% off since we were hotel guests so it came out to be reasonably priced. CONCLUSION: Good for a hotel restaurant. Would not come here out of my way though. Ok food, ok drinks, service not that great when busy and reasonably priced with discount.

While I’ve never actually had dinner at the restaurant, I’ve certainly sustained my family on Marin’s breakfast more times than I care to divulge. The breakfast buffet is a smörgåsbord, featuring hot and cold cereals, freshly cut fruit, scrambled eggs, toast, pastries, juice/coffee/tea, yogurt, bacon, sausage links/patties, diced potatoes, pancakes/French toast/waffles, and crepes. There is even an omelette station. I’m not an ovo-fan, so I love that the chef allows me to have sautéed spinach with green onions and jalapenos sans eggs. The bar holds Happy Hour from 5−7pm daily, with $ 1 off drinks and 50% off appetizers. Of course, the hors d’oeuvres are overpriced, so the Happy Hour«deal» is more fitting to what the prices should be to begin with. Marin’s social hours hardly compete with that of BJ’s or Yen Sushi at the mall across the street. But the bar’s prices during regular hours are pretty reasonable for SPG Platinum guests, who get 25% off. $ 1 or 25%? Simple math. And – no – you cannot have both. I’ve learned to avoid Sundays and Mondays at the bar since the bartender who works the shift is rude and unknowledgeable. No lie: I overheard him refer to me as «la negra fea» in conversation with another waiter. When I confronted him on it, he was dumbfounded. Shyeah, buddy. This«negra fea» speaks Spanish. LA is an urban metropolis. Duh! Then he tried to charge me $ 18 for a sidecar because he didn’t know how to make one. His rationale: «I charge for each shot.» So if you can imagine: a Long Island in his Bizarro World should cost $ 32. Right! I learned to just avoid him, in favor of the barkeeper who works Monday through Saturday; he’s friendly, and he knows his drinks. This restaurant is not one on which you build expectations. It’s a place steeply rooted in the KISS method, so Keep It Simple Silly. ;-p FYI: Marin is also the room service provider for the Four Points LA-Westside, so whatever you order will be from the restaurant.

Terrible our steaks were served cold. The food tasted like bad airline food or frozen dinner food. They didn’t give us a wine lsit. I ordered a Latte and they said they don’t have them and it was listed on the menu. Worst meal I have had in a very long time and it was expensive. We went with a coupon from … and it still cost us $ 50.00 for two. Total rip off… The place was completly empty and should stay that way.

A hotel kitchen for room service falsely marketed as a restaurant: You should only go here if you are staying at the hotel and don’t want to go out. Overall the food was subpar. The martinis were watered down. The calamari was not crispy enough. The mashed potatoes(which are hard to mess up) were too watery. The veggies were too boiled and bland. The filet mignon was okay, but slightly charred around the edges. In the name of transparency, we had a coupon. $ 100 for 50. I though we would be super full, but the proportions were small. On the bright side, the servers were really nice, friendly, and attentive.

Worst meal of the year. So bad, that I would create a dozen Unilocal accounts to be able to give this place multiple reviews and drag down its current«4 star rating». We went here with a coupon and high hopes for a good steak dinner. How wrong we were. 1) This is hardly a steakhouse and more the 4 Point Sheraton’s lobby/waiting area. Yes, where people wait for their shuttle to the airport. 2) Steak: I couldn’t have cooked the NY strip worse if I tried. Bad meat(as in sale rack at Von’s) cooked well done when I asked for medium rare. Oh it also had a mysterious neon pink gravy. 3) Martini: We asked for a Ketel martini and had to explain to the waitress what that was. 4) French onion soup: More like onion sauce. Way too many onions. Way too little soup.

This place is less than a mile from my house so location couldn’t be more convenient. My fiancé, her friend and myself came here for a meal before going to a comedy show in downtown LA. The girls LOVED it and would probably both rank the place higher. The service was decent — probably made it easier that we were the only people in there at one point — and they made some great drinks(my fiancé was buzzing after two sips of her margarita). The fiancé had a burger and fries and she loved them, and the friend had a panini sandwich with fries, and she loved them, as well. Unfortunately for me, I got the crazy idea to order steak at a place called«Marin Company Steak and Spirits» and had the surf and turf, steak bloody rare. My steak came out medium rare to medium, and the only flavor was that char flavor from the grill, which I am not a fan of. The rest of the meal was okay but when the steak isn’t good, the rest of the meal doesn’t matter. Also, since I was driving, I ordered Coke, which came in a can… so obviously no free refills. I’m fine when they do that at Roscoe’s and the Serving Spoon because, well, that’s part of the ambience. But a steak place in a relatively upscale hotel? C’mon, even Denny’s has damn free refills. Anyway I give it three stars because the two ladies thought the place was great. If it was just based on my meal, I think I’d go with the two stars. That said, I will return, if only because the place is so close.

Came here with a coupon. Rounding up from 3.5 because I’m in a good mood this morning. Enjoyed the experience but wouldn’t go out of our way to come back… – Called before we went to check if reservations were needed. I was surprised(given that this is a restaurant in a nice hotel) that the person on the phone didn’t have the best command of the English language. She didn’t seem to understand our questions… oh well, it worked out. – We went for a late lunch and were the only people in there. Nice, but weird, you know? – Bar didn’t open until 4:30, but fortunately she was able to offer us a selection of beer. We had the Chimay Red and Blue; both were tasty. – BBQ chicken wing appetizer was pretty darn good. Mmm that sauce was savory. – My shrimp pasta with white wine sauce and capers was delicious; no complaints! – My boyfriend’s burger was average. Not bad, not exceptional. – Bill came out to $ 60 after tax and tip, GAH! It always surprises me how things add up… guess we could have skipped the wings =X But fortunately our coupon took $ 25 off the total.

I had a New York steak. Pretty darn good quality — tender! My wife had the tilapia fish and it was bland. The dinners come with soup or salad. I had had the small Caesar which was fine but my wife had the dinner salad and they drenched it way too much dressing. The atmosphere is like an upscale coffee shop. There is a full bar in the area. We will probably go back in the future.

My husband and I had a lovely dinner on Saturday evening, our server Alfonso was extremely courteous and helpful. My husband and I both started with a lentil soup(delicious!!) My husband had steak and I had chicken, both with veggies and both meals were really tasty. We have lived in Culver City for 11 years and did not even know that this place existed(inside the ‘Four Points Sheraton Hotel’.) Lovely atmosphere, definitely will be having a meal there again.
