Athletes Equation

I come here for the boot camp classes and it kicks my butt everytime. They always change it up so every workout is different. Great staff, great facility, and everyone is supportive.

Great facility that provide bootcamp/​crossfit style classes that push you to the limit. Great instructors that are able to modify to any sports injury, weaknesses (knees, back, rotator cuff, etc.). Staff provide recipes/​meal plans for the ultimate all around burn. Multiple hours to accommodate to your schedule. If you want a true workout and staff to encourage/​push you for 45 min… look no further.

Athlete’s Equation is not your typical gym. This is a great work out facility with incredibly knowledgeable and friendly staff. How they remember all of their member’s names is beyond me! That is one of the great things about the place. You’re not just another body there, you are a member of a group looking to accomplish your fitness goals and Jason, Tom, Rick and the rest of the staff are there to help you every step of the way.
I first signed up with a Groupon and was doing one personal training session a week and two boot camp classes a week. After the first week you definitely feel the burn! After the second week, you already feel the difference, your body changing for the better. After the Groupon expired I signed up for two boot camps a week. I’m telling you, it is a heck of a workout but fun at the same time. They incorporate each and every piece of equipment inside (and outside!) the gym into each class. It mixes things up and has you working parts of your body your forgot you had or never knew you had while keeping fun.
If you are looking for a fun, but serious workout, I highly recommend Athlete’s Equation. You’re not just another face in the crowd. In the personal training sessions, they work with you and your body type to help you reach your personal fitness goals. They are friendly and understanding. When I first started I thought there was no way I would make it through my first training session! Definitely hard work. But I did and I kept coming back and it has been so worth it! They help you to work on your weak and strong points all the while boosting your confidence in yourself and your body.
I’m much stronger than I was the day I joined four months ago, I have lost some pounds as well. I am much more confident in myself and that helps me in and out of the gym.
I also want to commend Jason and his staff for all that they do for local charities and most recently the One Fund Boston. Specialty boot camp classes are arranged with proceeds going to great causes. Not only does this do your body good, but your soul too. You can get a great work out and help those in need.
If you’re looking for a new and improved gym experience with a great, knowledgeable staff, this is your place!

Athlete’s Equation recently added «Fitness Equation» as second name for itself so as not to define itself solely as an athlete training facility, which makes it less intimidating to regular schmoes such as myself. With Fitness Equation came Boot Camp, which is what I am here to review, specifically.
First of all, I will start by saying that this is the best workout I have ever done, and probably the longest period of time that I’ve consistently stuck with a workout without skipping. It’s definitely not your typical workout where you show up, do the same routine time and time again, and eventually get bored and stop. Boot Camp workouts are different every single time, which keeps things interesting. I’m currently in my 6^th week of training (3x per week), and I have yet to do the same workout twice! All 3 trainers I’ve had class with have been really great and supportive, and despite what the name «boot camp» implies, no one has called me a maggot yet.
Is it easy? No. Will it hurt? Yes. That’s what gets you results. Despite all of the infomercials out there telling you that you can have rock solid abs by rolling across the floor for a few minutes every day, in order to get real world, non-​fairytale results, you have to workout hard enough that you feel it the next day. Either that, or find a magic genie and wish for a perfectly sculpted bod. I don’t know any genies, so I’m stuck doing it the hard way. After my first workout, I wasn’t sure if I’d ever be able to move again without wanting to cry, and then I had to get up and do it again 48 hours later. That first week was definitely the hardest part. After my first week, The soreness slowly became more tolerable, and although I still get sore after every workout 6 weeks in, it’s become a lot more tolerable (either that or I’m just getting used to it and it doesn’t bother me as much). Plus, that means it’s still working!
A typical boot camp will go something like this (although the strength/​conditioning part changes… sometimes conditioning is separate and sometimes it’s mixed in):
1) Dynamic stretching
2) Cardio warmup
3) 6 – 12 strength/​conditioning stations, which are performed in 25 – 35 second intervals 4 times through.
4) Depending on whether strength and conditioning were done together, there is sometimes an extra conditioning circuit made up several stations of mostly cardio exercises, repeated 4 times through.
5) Static stretching
I typically sweat A LOT. and it usually takes about an hour for my red face to finally go back to its original color, but it goes by amazingly fast, and I always feel so accomplished after finishing. In some twisted kind of way, I actually enjoy it, which I definitely cannot say about most other workouts I’ve done.
As far as results go, I’ve definitely seen a significant change in my upper body strength, which is the area I need the most improvement in, strength-​wise. A couple of weekends ago, the boyfriend and I went kayaking for about 4 hours on a pretty choppy lake, and I was able to keep up with him the entire time and didn’t whine about my arms being tired once. I can also do more than 10 pushups (one of my least favorite exercises) before face planting into the floor now, and my arms definitely seem firmer and more toned. My pants also seem looser — both around the waist and in the legs. I haven’t seen big numbers on the scale yet, but I honestly think that’s because I’m building muscle, and for once I’m not just using that as a lame excuse to make myself feel better about not losing weight. The numbers are slowly creeping down, which is a nice bonus, but my biggest goal of gaining more strength and stamina is definitely well on its way!
I will warn you that there is no air conditioning, but they do have some giant industrial sized fans that blast you with air. To be completely honest, you sweat so much during the workout that you’re not going to be able to tell if the room is 60 degrees or 80 degrees once you get going, anyway! There is also a bit of a hot water shortage issue if more than one person is using the showers at a time, but I don’t even take hot showers after this workout (just luke-​warm), so that hasn’t been a huge problem for me yet.
Overall, I’m extremely happy with my boot camp experience here, and I’m really looking forward to seeing continued results!

My wife and I started with Athletes Equiation in August of last year and it we couldn’t be happier! They offer a boot camp, at very convenient times, that will push your body to the limit. I have lost almost 20 lbs and several inches and feel stronger than I’ve ever felt before. Both the owner, Jason, and coach Tom are great guys and know what they are doing when it comes to fitness.

They moved into a much bigger place, right off 295, nice location. The owner really knows his stuff for strength and conditioning and helping for general fitness and athlete specific performance. They also offer this amazing program The 24 Day Challenge, that helped me lose 11 lbs in 24 days, raised my energy level huge. I would definitely check it out and recommend to friends.
