I’m sitting here trying to figure out why I am writing a review for a restaurant that not only is closed but has been closed for approx. 10 years now. Call me crazy… Anyway, this restaurant was a true gem, a rarity, one of a kind, etc. You just can’t find Nepalese food in the Bay Area anymore, and that was exactly what this restaurant served(hence the name). The food was fresh and prices were reasonable. I ate here back in 1999 when I was only in the 2nd grade, and I’m still missing this restaurant. I do have to subtract one star as some of the meat I ate still had some bones in it. It’s funny because some people when an establishment closes will give a 1-star review on Unilocal solely because that place no longer exists. But I’ll never do that for this place. I really do miss this place. Maybe a miracle will happen and somehow they will reappear somewhere locally. Oh and it’s funny because I found a link with a picture of the restaurant exterior on Google, here it is for those who are interested:( ) Gone but never forgotten. 4 stars

I swear we kept this place going when we lived in Cupertino. They had the best food and we ate it a couple times a week, sometimes more. It was like a punch below the belt when I drove by to find them closed. I’ve eaten at the Thai place that went in, but hated it(probably because it had replaced my beloved Kathmandu). Anyone know if they’ve popped up anywhere else?

Kathmandu West had really, really good food. The curries and dhal were well spiced and different enough from Indian food to make a pleasant change. Momo was good but on the expensive side — more expensive than they were worth. Finding out that it had closed and been replaced by a Thai restaurant was so disappointing. Four and a half stars for the food and an extra star for all of the good friends — and folks who were more than friends — who joined me for dinner here. I had been wondering what to choose for my 100th review. Mourning the passing of Kathmandu West(the first restaurant I ever ate in the Bay Area and the first place I headed every visit until I moved here) seemed very appropriate.

I’m sorry to see that this place is closed. Only place I’d been for Nepalese food. Was good place if you enjoy Indian since the cuisine had lots of crossover. Think Indian with a Himalayna twist. For example Daal is a staple on the menu. The lentils here were spiced a bit differently(wish I could get my taste buds around it again). Oh well no sense in getting too deep into describing it since I can no longer get it.
