I cannot believe this placed closed down. I’m going to miss their Kani Cream Croquette… an I had a bottle of Shouchu in there with my name on it! Yikes! Tear.

The sushi here were good and fresh but a little pricier than other Cupertino sushi places. We went to Sushi Tatsumi this evening to try it again since it has been a while, and surprisingly found it closed with a sign indicating that they are no longer in business. That is just too bad when a good place goes under.

This is a quaint environment, the staff are really nice. I’m not sure how good their English is, I asked a question and the guy just shook his head at me. However if you order it, the food will come. They just can’t tell you what the ingredients are. The little things like presentation of the table and food is really nice. Overall, I enjoyed my time there.

I will definitely be coming back here. I have been craving sushi, and didn’t feel like going to the usual place, so we ended up here, regardless of its totally non descript location(in a shopping plaza next to La Patisserie). My way of judging a sushi place is the freshness of their fish — the maguro nigiri was fantastic and FRESH. Didn’t taste fishy, it tasted how it should. Same with the Philly roll, salmon was exactly the color it should be and tasted almost like un-smoked lox and cream cheese, YUM. Their miso soup was better than most run of the mill miso soups, service was good, the guy who started out serving us barely spoke English, but was nice and sent over someone who did. We ordered a bunch of rolls and they were all tasty. Food arrived quickly, it was great, …not one bump in the evening, definitely a place to go to again.

Was in Cupertino for a week of meetings and longed for sushi one night for dinner. After dark it is a bit hard to find this place. It’s next to the more noticeable pastry shop. Fairly small place with nothing much in the décor department around the tables but the sushi bar is pretty nice. Greeted warmly and was served the first round of sushi very promptly. All varieties were fresh, tender and tasted great. Got to try out a sake that was new to me, recommended by the waitress, which is always a good thing. The miso suru was pretty much the same as served at a thousand other sushi restaurants. If you need sushi this is an OK place to get it. Wouldn’t give it any points for a date place except at the sushi bar. Prices were a bit higher than I expected for a rather«plain» place. Didn’t try any of the cooked items so can’t comment on their quality/price. Giving 4 stars on the quality/taste/freshness of the sushi.

I’ve been here once not too long after this place opened a few years ago. Now that I’m working and living in Cupertino, I decided to try this place again give myself some token for my hard work. The interior looked like a clean sushi restaurant(not diner that only has one large counter and a few tables) in Japan, which was pleasant. Miso soup that used red miso had that distinctive taste not normally available in places with less expensive dishes. Because there were only a few groups in the restaurant, my lunch special(chicken teriyaki /sashimi) came in quickly. The portion was pretty large, but since I paid $ 16 for this dish, at least the quantity was expected. As for the quality, overall it was pretty good. Chicken teriyaki with sauce aside(my preference) was pretty good, although not as good as one at Saizo or places with grills. Fried spring rolls had delicate taste which definitely resembled those in Japan. Otherwise you wouldn’t be able to eat them with mayonnaise. The salad was also good without veggie not watery. Agedashi tofu was also pretty good. Sashimi was probably the highlight since it not only had tuna but also two other fishes(sorry, it’s been almost 2 months so I cannot remember which ones). But at the same time, nothing really jumped out. For the price, I expected«something.» Some might rate this dish higher for higher varieties of food for the lunch special. So, if you want to have a sophisticated Japanese lunch, I recommend this place.

One of the Best Secrets in Cupertino/San Jose area! I almost don’t want to tell people about it. They have the ABSOLUTEBESTSUSHI. I love sushi and I don’t mind paying for it. This place is one of the most special places. People who really enjoy stuff should go there. Toro is great. Tuna Tataki, the sauce is the best EVER! I am so SAD this place is gone!!! SOMEONEFINDMESOMEGOODSUSHI!!! I would challenge anyone to find me a better place for sushi than this place!

Who would have imagined something as refined as this place is trying to be would be in the same strip mall as Elephant Bar. Honestly, I didn’t even know this was here till Nads pointed it out and said to check it out. All in all it wasn’t that bad. Wasn’t that great. I did like the hamachi kama a lot though. It wasn’t dry at all. And the service was great as well. But in the end I don’t know my ass from my palate(okay, that’s not entirely true) when it comes to sushi. Something that I need to address in the next few reviews. o0

I liked this place; the food was good, and we had no problems with the service. The only small issue I had was that some of the combination menu items listed that they came with«sushi» but nothing more specific than that. So you’re not exactly sure what you get when you order. But does anybody ever really know what they get when they order? I thought so.

With«sushi» in it’s name, you wouldathunk that the sushi would’ve tasted better, but I was definitely disappointed. The place is cute inside and the restaurant was easy to find, but aside from that, I should’ve known it could only go downhill from the minute I saw the sushi menu. The menu was a simple piece of paper with a list of the available sushi rolls. No description, no pictures. Call it childish, but I like pictures — they make me look forward to the meal more! If I hadn’t recognized a few of the names(hello, Dragon Roll), I would’ve had to ask the waitress for descriptions of a decent portion of them. When I get the Dragon Roll($ 12.95), it was of the regular size, and tasted decent, which is dissapointing, considering the price. I could’ve gotten better sushi somewhere else for a good five dollars cheaper. I also got an avocado roll for $ 4…six tiny pieces. FJDKAS;FJS;RIPOFFMANIA. On a happier note, the waitresses were nice and helpful. I even saw them hug a kid that came in with his family ’cause they were regulars. Kudos for that. As a post-disclaimer(wtf, right?), I’m not strict about having authentic Japanese food. I would be 3p1c ph41l at any trivia question involving nagiri and sashimi, and I don’t care if I have imitation crab in my sushi. If ya really wanted to, call me white-washed. So, maybe I would’ve enjoyed Sushi Tatsumi more if I was a little more versed in Japanese food, but seeing as I’m not, two stars for kind service and cute dining area, but I won’t be coming back.

Can’t say it was the best. But Sushi Tatsumi is pretty decent Sushi is good, but the chef talks too much and only pay attention when there’s no orders. The nice hostess/manager is very professional and provides exceptional service. Nice orders were: Spicy Tuna Hand Rolls, Spider Roll, Dragon Roll, Cha Soba, Taco, Salmon, Ama Ebis, Edamame, Ebi, Tuna Sashimi(In that order) Total tap was $ 55, I’ll leave the math to you

If you want Authentic Japanese Sushi, this is the place to go. Sit at the counter, and start a nice conversation with the Chef. I recommend sticking to the sushi, and if you want something from the kitchen, stick to the menu that’s on the board. Good selection of Shochu as well as Sake. This is the only place I go for a nice Sushi Restaruant.

Came here for dinner on a Saturday night. Surprisingly, the place was nearly empty with seating for only about 20 ppl or so. The prices here are a bit more expensive than other sushi restaurants and I didn’t think the sushi was that great. It was okay, but you don’t get really what you pay for. The waitress/owner was very nice to us, talking to us as we were wondering about the green tea and why it wasn’t so bitter. The pickled salad wasn’t too bad. something to snack on while you’re waiting for your meal. This place was good but not great. Nothing that stood out for its high prices

Craving some sushi, we decided to come here after a little visit to Daiso and Marukai. The place had just opened for dinner and it was empty. We decided to eat at the sushi bar. Ordered tea, and miso soup and our waitresses brought them right away. Tea was pipping hot and the miso had slices of daikon(white giant radish) which I wasn’t use to in miso soup but good nonetheless. I like my sushi directly from the sushi bar, it’s the best way to eat sushi hands down! The Japanese sushi chef was pretty friendly, skilled and quick. I’ve ate at tons of sushi restaurants, but this was the very first place that had kani(crab) nigiri with actual crab meat instead of the imitation crab fish blocks. Whoa! Impressed! The spicy cucumber salad/side dish wasn’t exactly my favorite thing in the world and they were out of kaki(oysters). =( On the other hand, the tako, tamago, tai, hirame, uni, sake, kani nigiris hit there marks. The tai, and hirame was especially good to me. Nicely made, perfectly seasoned, and fresh.

Before I could endure a bridesmaid dress shopping torture, I mean adventure, at New Things West, I needed to satisfy those damn hunger pangs. Sushi to go sounded like the way to go. I ordered a spicy tuna roll, a california roll, and a nigri(2-piece) order of tobiko. Everything was fresh, and the spicy tuna was actually spicy. They’re not a 5 star place because she said my to go order would take 10 minutes and it took 20+ minutes. And, the prices aren’t so friendly on my wallet. My order totaled $ 18.

I had lunch here with my hubby today, and was pleasantly surprised! Their reviews are pretty mixed on Unilocal,so I wasn’t sure what to expect. Imagine my shock when the place was almost filled to capacity within a few minutes of being seated! Another shocker: They are actually Japanese!!! This could explain why the rolls were bite-sized, rolled well, and there were no outrageous ingredients in the rolls. They also offered some izakaya items. I had: rainbow roll,(drum roll… they have REAL crab!!!) and grilled sake marinated cod. Both were very good, and the service was great as well. Tea and water were kept refilled, they checked back on us, and they were pleasant too. I will definitely be back:)

man there are so many places to eat in this plaza! this plaza where yogurtland is! who wouldve known. tatsumi is situated in an unsuspecting corner of the plaza. the outside doesnt look like much. once inside you kind of forget you are in the middle of a suburbian strip mall. they dont do take out. i dont know why. maybe they dont want their food to get messed up? when you sit down they get you your drinks. hot tea. cucumber in vinegar. edamame. some daikon kimchee stuff. all good. we ordered some sushi. all good. nabeyaki udon. grilled cod. service good. food good. i came again on valentines day for dinner and it was busy. it was really slow and they kept giving us those little dishes. i felt like i was in a korean restaurant. oh and their salad has a weird dressing and they ran out of everything. seaweed salad. mirugai.

3.25 stars The place was completely empty when we came in but then again it was around 5pm. Two more tables walked in as we were finishing up. The service was nice. Our server made sure to keep things clean and even poured our soy sauces on our plates after she had put the rolls down. The rolls we ordered were: Rainbow roll, Spider roll and Philadelphia roll. The Philly one was the best. I used to be in search of a good philly roll. Lots of places can not do it right. It seems people are careless with the crème cheese. It’s always so stiff at other places. This one was great. The salmon was soft enough so as i ate the roll, it melded and mixed with the soft tasty crème cheese perfectly. The rainbow roll wasn’t too bad, pretty average. But the portion of it was small compared to other sushi places. I’m not a big fan of spider rolls but it felt like it was missing something. I think a house sauce would have been perfect over it. My friend noted that the rice was fresh that it was still warm Overall the food experience wasn’t bad at all, especially since we were a little scared to eat there where i read some of the reviews here on Unilocal through my blackberry. Only thing bad was the pricing. It was dissapointing to see that a rainbow roll that measly cost $ 13. Total bill for those 3 rolls, 2 sodas and 2 house salads: $ 43OUCH. In conclusion, I will only come back again if i’m looking for a pre-eat before i head to yogurtland. It’s too expensive for me especially having experienced places like Sen Dai and Smile Sushi

This is a good, new sushi restaurant in the Bay Area. Positives: + Excellent atmosphere. The restaurant was immaculate. Tables were clean, spread apart, and restaurant was very quiet(good for conversation). I enjoyed their minimalist style + Quality and freshness of sushi was excellent. Extremely tasty and seasoned perfectly with wasabi. + Service was exceptional – attentive, efficient, friendly. + Excellent selection of traditional Japanese small plates, sushi, soba, and sake. I liked that they had very few of the Americanized rolls(ie. dragon roll) and focused on quality nigiri. Negatives — Prices were slightly high. But, we felt the food was worth it. — They serve some random extras with their chicken and beef: potato salad, oranges, green beans… Why? I’m definitely going back. Very impressed with Tatsumi. Update: I’ve been back a few times, and their sushi is still good, but I’m rating it a four, from my original five stars.

We weren’t expecting much when we came here, but were pleasantly surprised. We had a few small plates, udon, and some nigiri sushi. The sushi tasted fresh but wasn’t absolutely excellent. The udon really hit the spot, but we also had just had horrible udon the week before, so we were really craving good udon! The small plates were pretty good as well. Atmosphere is small and quiet. This place is indeed Japanese owned, and you won’t find any Americanized sushi rolls here. A little on the pricey side, but hey it’s sushi, right?
