This used to be the best of two grocery stores in Custer but no longer. The store is better in the summer with lots of tourists around but not in the winter for the locals. Lots of expired items on the shelves and meat that has seen better days. Don’t shop here any more.

We were visiting Custer on vacation and I told the owner that I read about them on Unilocal. He didn’t know what Unilocal was and was pleasantly surprised when I let him read the great reviews of his store. It really is a great store with a great selection of natural and organic items. Very friendly people that are happy to serve.

They have a great, more high end meat selection. My family is known for getting 10 – 15 pounds of buffalo and bringing it back to MN from this shop. Very nice staff, high quality fruit and more local than the bigger stores in town.

Since we were on vacation and didn’t know what kind of grocery stores we might run into, we were pleasantly surprised when we wandered in here. We make somewhat of an effort to not eat like total crap while we’re on vacation, so the selection of produce here was great to find. We got a delicious apples, some carrots, hummus, and cherry tomatoes. The prices were not bad, and the service was extremely friendly. The location is extremely convenient in the middle of Custer, right at the intersection where you’d turn to head towards the monuments. For a small store, they had a good selection of produce, meats, and organic foods, if you’re into that kind of thing. Definitely a good place to check out if you’re passing through town and want some snacks that won’t shorten your lifespan.

This is the first grocery store you see if you’re coming into town from the west. It is a smallish place, but chock full of tasty treats. It is more high-end than Dakotamart, and also a little more pricey. They have an extensive organic and gluten-free section, and also carry«South Dakota Raised Buffalo Steaks». We didn’t try those, as we just stopped in for some milk, but I bet we’ll be back in later this week. P. S. I think this place is actually called«Custer County Market», as that’s their URL:
