Although it’s a bistro, the food is definitely American and prepared beautifully. I was introduced to this restaurant by snowbird friends who live in Greenport, which is about 20 minutes away. I’ve been back twice and know I’ll return anytime I have a chance to visit the area. The menu is eclectic. Not in the mood for fried chicken or a burger? Want Italian? They got it. Japanese, check. Mexican? Yup. Plus plenty of other stops around the globe. Portions are generous and fresh. My friend had the roasted duck and practically licked her plate clean. I had the pork tenderloin and could barely finish(but I made it). The self-named salad is generous and fabulous. The drinks are strong and the wine offerings by the glass are numerous. I feel like I’m visiting a little country house when I dine here. It’s very rustic and comfortable. Tons of rooster memorabilia fill the small rooms. It’s hard by the LIRR Greenport tracks, so very occasionally, one will rumble by. The Red Rooster Bistro is fun, unpretentious and a good value.

Great brunch — eggs benedict was awesome! Quaint and charming in there — I have not had the burger but local friends swear it is the best on the North Fork. Going to try dinner tonight.

Great place been here for a long time. Excellent service and food. Quiet place to come hang out during the week and even on the weekend. Not many know about this as its off any main rd it’s towards north rd on depot in a residential area. Hope they stick around for a while. Must try if you’re coming out to the nofo

What a find! EVERYONE should know about this place. Comfortable atmosphere, excellent service and amazingly delicious, thoughtfully prepared food with extremely fair prices. It reminds me of bistros in Old Quebec but better — lovely! I’ve never written a Unilocal review before but felt compelled to spread the word about Red Rooster. Can’t wait to go back, bring friends and try everything else on the menu. Our new favorite for sure.

Just drove past the place and stopped in to take a look. It was a little early for dinner and a little late for lunch so we were just browsing(we like discovering interesting places). My husband is French and was immediately drawn to the décor. Chef Gregory came out to greet us and was very friendly and talked to us about the menu. It looked and sounded like a classic French bistro menu which is not a common thing on Long Island. Since it was about 4:00pm we told him we’d be back. We came back for dinner and were very glad we did! My husband had the Steak Au Poivre. The meat was tender and the sauce was classic and delicious. Served with asparagus and roasted potatoes that were cooked perfect. I had Boeuf Bourguignon which was the best I’d had in a long time! The meat and sauce were so flavorful! The wine the chef choose for us was a perfect pairing and the Crème Brulee dessert was excellent. Truly recommend this place if you love classic French bistro dishes done right!

Gem of the East LI. Quiet and relax atmosphere with Classic Country French cuisine. I don’t normally eat Mooooz or steaks but the Beef Bourguignon is a must, tender and juicy; the chef did not disappoint me. Finish off with some crepes and a legendary classic — Crème Brûlée!

This was so Lovely. The food, atmosphere and chef were perfect. My steak au poivre was outstanding. Even the pillowy soft roll was fabulous. My husbands pâté was great as was his beef bourginon. The chefs crème briulee was delicious. I cannot wait to come back. Gregory the chef was very charming and kind

Off the beaten path means no lines during this busy season on the North Fork. The latest menu is French bistro style which fits in with the atmosphere of the restaurant. There are outside tables but I am not sure if they serve outside. We arrived late and it was already dark out so seating was indoors. Small menu but they do all dishes well. Prices are reasonable for some dishes and a bit high for others but not bad for the NF. The wine menu is small and expensive but they do serve house wines by the glass for $ 8. Great place for a date or a quiet relaxing night out.

Was a little concerned when we arrived early for happy hour and the bartender didn’t know how to make a Cosmo but the evening got better after that. Excellent service and very good food made for a nice evening. Apps were tasty and the main courses were quite good as well. The salmon, duck and lamb were well received and enjoyed. The pasta lacked a little in the flavor dept. dessert option were limited to three. We all opted for crème brûlée which was so-so. Overall one of the better restaurants on the north fork. Would return again

This place rocked my world! It is so unique, with a great menu, good food, service thats on top of it, and did I mention a GREAT menu! We had a great time here for brunch and will definitely be back. Its a little off the beaten track and there might be a slight wait but we thought it was worth it!

I hate to give this review. Don’t want to see our default local place for relaxed and delicious dining swamped with city people next weekend. But it’s too big a secret to keep. Eclectic, a little Bulgarian, a lot French, very local in season with a short but interesting French wine list to contrast with the local pour. Reliably good, unpretentious evening out, with a top-notch wait staff. Perfect fresh salmon with quinoa, asparagus appetizer– or mussels in wine — or a homey Shopska salad. Simply good.

Man I hate to say it because I wanted this place to be good but two stars for sure. Nothing is above average here. Nothing on the menu is worth mention and has only seemed to get worse over time. I’ve been here many times and I’ve had many different things on the menu and was always disappointed. VERY Basic beer selection(Budweiser, coors, miller etc) maybe you can get lucky and find a corona under the bar every now and then. These guys are on their way out, I’m sure.

I don’t know who is giving this place 3&4 star ratings because the food at this place is terrible. We should have never entered seeing nobody inside @7pm. except I assume the owners(a guy on computer at front table, lady who was receptionist and bartender). Roasted chicken was like leather probably cooked days previously and meatloaf with undercooked hard boiled egg inside left alot to be desired. Unless this place is «a front» I would be shocked if place is open in 2014. Wine selection is a joke with only 1 or maybe 2 local wines and a few inferior selections from cali and Bulgaria. Liquor selections are just as limited and mediocre. Vodka choice is Ketel One or Sobieski. Thats it. Do yourself a favor and drive down road for a mile and go to Taste of Venice for a good meal. #truthhurts

Came by for an informal meal and was impressed by both the service and quality of the food. The menu is quite eclectic spanning from middle European specialties, to Italian and comfort food. Everything was delicious. The produce was fresh and the seasoning perfect. We started with chili appetizer followed by the bacon wrapped grouper and Wienerschnitzel covered with chopped salad. Delicious. Service was friendly and attentive. Excellent meal and a real deal!

Super cute, cozy, great atmosphere. excellent food, excellent service. We were staying out here for the weeekend and a friend recomended this place to us. We enjoyed their appetizer specials: fried calamari, clams in white wine sauce plus wings. For dinner, their rib eye steaks were delicious. We really wanted to try their ribs, but they were already sold out! The have a full bar and specialty drinks too. I will definately be back next time we’re in the area.

Excellent Food, Excellent Service. The regular items on the menu are great, but you should definitely try the daily specials… amazing. This is great place for comfort food. fried chicken. pot roast… but also great for slightly on the fancy side dishes. Italian, French, Asian… they have some really great things here.

We tried these entries: salmon, grouper & pot roast and we each really enjoyed our meal. I had the salmon, which came w yummy asparagus, rice & potatoes w onions. The salmon was wonderful. The potatoes and onions were also good… they just surprised me in that they were cold. but still very tasty. We agreed w other reviewers that the atmosphere is unique, kinda eclectic, but also cozy. We all thought very highly of this place!
