I am absolutely disgusted with my experience of this establishment. Called, made a reservation for 8 for a birthday celebration, gave my information and Groupon code and got my confirmation code. Arrived this evening with my friends, only to be told we were not permitted to use our Groupons because the headliner was a «special event.» The owner walked away with rudeness several times during our discussion, offered no remedy other than returning for another show and told us we were not being honest. I cannot believe that an owner would act with such an unprofessional and rude attitude… blaming the customer for their mistake. We were hoping to have found a cool new comedy club we could frequent… but, instead we have found a new place all 8 of us can deter our friends from. Calling Groupon for a refund and making sure others don’t experience the same treatment.

This review is of the facility and how it is run. It is not about the headliner or opener who I personally thought were hilarious and did an awesome job! Upon entering the facility, we were not greeted promptly. In fact, we stood there for a few minutes waiting for someone to come out and greet us. We were a tad early so maybe they were still trying to prep for the night? Not sure. The inside is set up like a dining room at a restaurant which is nice because you have a table to set drinks and food on. The chairs were uncomfortable banquet chairs. We ordered drinks shortly after we arrived. I like that they tell you on the menu how much the drinks cost because they are different prices depending on what you get. The have beer, wine, and cocktails. I felt that the price of the cocktails did not match the quality nor the size received. The cocktail was very strong but had so much ice in it that it seemed small and came in a small plastic cup. I didn’t have another drink after that one. We did order food which I felt was a good value. It was tasty and a good portion size. The staff were friendly but you can tell that by the end of the night, they’re exhausted. Throughout the show, there was an obnoxious group of girls who were talking over the comedian. It was rude and they interrupted more than once. I think the manager should have stepped in and given them a warning that they would be kicked out if they didn’t shush. I wasn’t watching them the entire time so maybe someone did warn them but they continued to interrupt the show. Overall, it was a fun night. I feel that the chairs and décor should be updated. I think they could charge more for entry if they class the place up a bit.

We used to go here about every other month. The food was good and the drinks were over priced. As for the talent, it was a risk. Sometimes you had very good comedians and sometimes you would have very bad comedians relying only on their vulgarities for their humor. A few times we invited some friends to go with us and we were very embarrassed by how vulgar the comedians were and not even funny to us. We never invite friends to go with us now. We only went a few times this past year. We just got back from the midnight New Years Eve 2015 show. It was bad and as the evening went on it only got worse. The other people sitting at our table left a little early and we were contemplating leaving. I waited for the midnight buffet that we had paid for. I wish I hadn’t. It was quite bad. If this is their typical talent now, I don’t think we’ll be going back. We used to like the Funny Stop but I can’t say that any more. I hate giving bad reviews but the owner should know. We can’t be the only people who feel this way. I wish I knew of another local Comedy Club.

Behind every comedian there is an ex-boyfriend /ex-wife whose life needs ruining. That is the great thing about Tuesday Amateur Night at The Funny Stop… you never know what you are going to get. Most new talent take to the mic with no filter in an attempt to get their foot in the door. Some crash. Some shine. All learn. Pete provides an unusual stand-up boot camp for up and coming comics that awards cash prizes and even a chance to be an opening act for future head liners. Best of all if you happen to be a local radio listener you can get in free(Tuesdays only). Listen to Funny Stop’s Host John«Couchburner» Denning show for details on that. Funny Stop is more than just a amateur comic pit stop. It caters to some pretty heavy talent the rest of the week and on weekends. More than a few big name comics honed their chops via the Funny Stop stage. Pete is also amazing in that not only does he provides a spotlight to national talent, but he really supports local talent as well. Comic geniuses like Mike Polk Jr., Bill Boronkay, and Anthony Savatt. I personally love the service at Funny Stop. Wait staff is mucho attentive and authentic to your needs, also providing their share of comedy zingers worth stage time. Food is typical bar fare but the mixed drinks are pretty rocking. Unless it is a hugely promoted event(like a New Years Eve ball) prices are well below other comedy clubs in the area. Funny Stop is Akron areas best kept secret to chuckles.

I would say that your experience here would depend more on the talent. The club is a bar scene kind of place. There are a lot of different seating options. The atmosphere is comfortable and fun. We didn’t have problems with anything during our visit. The service was very good. The drinks were delicious and cost about the same as any bar that you would go to. Be sure to sign up for their mailing list to get discounts on tickets. They really offer a lot of good deals. For four reserved seats, paid by credit card, we paid $ 65 without any discount. I am extremely cheap, but feel that it was more than worth it for the good time that we had.

I love the funny stop. Its a great night out and something different to do thats close to home. The comedians are hit or miss, but i have seen some suprisingly good comics there. If you get on their call list it seems like they call an offer free tickets a couple of times a month. One time they actually called me and offered free tickets to a show I planned on seeing anyways. The only negative thing I have to say is that they are a little unorganized. For the person who said they called and asked them what shows they were going to, the reason ot seemed so impossible is because it would be, they keep everything in a notebook. Regardless they do a really good job at bringing good comics to such a small venue.

Well, I never actually went to the funny stop, but based on their phone etiquette I never would have wanted to. It was the worst I’ve ever experienced. I called up to give them the name and confirmation number of the group I wanted to be seated with, and to ask them which of the two shows they had bought tickets for, since there were two times and I wasn’t sure. They acted as if my request was so difficult to process, and it took them forever to figure it out. I even heard the other woman say, «who is this person?!» as if my request was so complicated and outlandish. Totally weird.

An 80’s style comedy room. The owner is nice, the bartender is nice. Great acts come through here. Why would you not go?

This place is an absolute dump. My gf and I went New Years Eve 2012 for the buffet and show. The place looks like a low rate fire trap, at best, the food came from a Lebanese wedding the Saturday before I’m guessing, and the headliner was a waste. The local comedians and the Matt guy from North Carolina were good. Wasted $ 100 on the night with the over priced drinks and automatic $ 5 tip. Oh… I can’t forget the raffle for the 6 or so ‘Coach’ purses! FAKES. Never again!

When I was in fourth grade, our teacher asked us to write a small paragraph about what we wanted to do for a living. No lie, at the tender age of 8, i wanted to be a standup comedian. I had grown up listening to Bill Cosby and Cheech and Chong records, and I KNEW i wanted to make people laugh. Fast forward many years later. Crippling anxiety keeps me off of the stage(for now), but definitely not away from comedians. Funny Stop is a crapshoot. For every one good comedian, there’s another really, really bad one. But the free passes are nice, and they call us constantly with them. Drinks and food here are way overpriced, and there’s a two drink minimum. It’s not bad for a night out. And I mean, duh, I’m the dutchess of the damn place – I’m obviously there a lot. My favorite comedians almost always play Cleveland. But for a fun night close to home, Funny Stop isn’t bad.
