Chocolate Encore

This catering company fell below my expectations. I hired them for my daughter’s first birthday party to provide a sundae & dessert bar with a mini chocolate fountain, as well as her birthday cake. Although the estimate was high, I thought it was convenient that they were able to provide all my desired services. After the initial quote, it was very difficult to get a hold of anyone via email or phone. I was finally able to touch base with the owner the week of the party.
On the day of the event, the caterer showed up 30m prior but had to leave to retrieve a forgotten piece of the chocolate fountain. She then arrived 10m into the party & still needed to finish setting up delaying everything by nearly 40m. Luckily, we had other food to entertain the guests in the meantime. Guests also commented that the catering appeared disorganized.
Since the also do wedding catering, I had high hopes for the cake. The cake did not resemble the pic I had sent. It was very simple & lacked any embellishments. The strawberry cake was moist & tasty. I had also been told that the caterer would set up, cut, & serve the cake which was not done.
I expressed my concerns via email to the owner following the party. Little sympathy was provided. I had assumed all-​inclusive catering services would be provided, but she stated that I should’ve had everything set up prior to the caterer’s arrival. Although convenient, for the price I expected much more. I would’ve ordered the desserts elsewhere & hired a server to work the party for better results.

This review comes from an experience as an attendee at a wedding catered for about 85 people by Chocolate Encore. What they do best, a Chocolate Fountain, they did extremely well. It was beautiful, delicious, and memorable. They did fine with fruit and cheeses. Their sauces for their food are decent (but not outstanding … and, how much sauce can you put on a tiny plate holding quite a few items?). Unfortunately, the appetizer buffet left a very poor impression and that’s the reason for one star. The food, except for the crab cakes, was dry and not tasty. The beef on skewers was extremely tough. The little quiches tasted like those from Sams Club. The hot food was not warm.
