I love Specs because moving from New York, there is no large chain liquor store (that I knew of) there. I like that I can go anywhere in Houston and find a Specs. They have a large selection of imported and local liquor, wine and cigars. Sometimes, if you are not familiar with the Specs that you are going to, there may not be the favorites that you usually buy at your local Specs or it may be located in a different section of the store. Some stores carry gourmet finger food like anitpasti, caviar and other fancy foods.

Never have been impressed with this location and only go in there to use gift cards Yesterday was the worst. Grabbed some vodka and gin and needed some tonic water. No tonic water in small bottles were available except for 2 Shasta 6 packs. Lady in charge of ordering says «I can’t get any even though I keep asking» Nice.
Guy behind register acts like a gang banger. Tells lady in front of me «YOU! (pointing finger at her), I get you over here.» Will use my gift cards elsewhere.

This is one of the satellite Specs that I never really thought I would go into, but as it was on the way back from a visit to a farm, we decided to drop in to look for our favorite cheap wine.
We got lucky and even luckier when helped by a very energetic woman called Nikki, who gave me case price on the last three bottles of something red and French.
There are some downsides to this store, as the Smith street one has me spoiled, but the organization isn’t always intuitive for the shopper and they have a remarkable lack of good French white wines, with nothing much over the $ 30/​bottle. I was looking for something spectacular for a special occasion, but it didn’t work out.
Still, it is a good solid, clean store with some enthusiastic and capable people working there. If I am going to be in the neighborhood often, I will see how they do with requests.
