Uncle Bob’s Self Storage

We have 2 storage units at this place. One was set up when it was still Four Seasons storage and we haven’t had any issues with that one. The second unit was set up right after uncle bob’s came in and the customer service has been pretty awful.
When I started renting the second unit, I told them I wanted to set up my account for automatic payment like our other unit was. They said «no problem, we’ll set that up for you». Two months later, I get a letter in the mail saying I owed them $ 50ish dollars in late fees and that they were about to sell my stuff. I’m thinking «Didn’t I set this up for automatic payment?» They also never sent me an invoice. How am I supposed to know that I have to pay for something, if I never receive an invoice?! I go to the store to try to fix this and their response «there’s nothing we can do about the late fees, you just have to pay them». They also claimed they lost my credit card information. I ask to speak to a manager and she wasn’t there. During this visit I set up for automatic payment for the second time. I leave, unhappy because I had to pay the late fees through no fault of my own, but at least thinking that the issue is resolved.
A month later I get a second letter saying I owed them the same amount of late fees and that, again, if I didn’t pay them they would sell my stuff. I never received an invoice this time either. I go to the store to try and sort this out because this is now the second time that this shouldn’t be happening. Their response was again the same– pay the fees or we sell your stuff. They also let me know that the employee that had set up my automatic payment the last time I was there did it wrong and has since been fired, as if it’s any consolation to me. I ask to speak to a manager and again, she’s conveniently not there. This time I also set up for automatic payment. It seems they got it right this time because I’ve yet to receive any late fees correspondence. Third time’s the charm?
If it wasn’t such a pain to move my stuff to another facility, I would. At this point, I’ve paid almost a full month’s rent in late fees because they lost my credit card information and then didn’t set it up correctly the second time. The way I see it, they should have waived the late fees because it was their fault. I never received a phone call or email from a manager there trying to resolve my issue or at least make sure that I was a happy customer.
