Lovely place to walk the dog. No place like it. Highlights the beauty of rural iowa. Buy the season pass. It is worth it and goes towards a good cause.
Hunt for the geocache. It is pretty easy to find. Good time for the kids. The kids also love the natural playground. It is fun to watch them explore nature.

Having moved from Colorado, I have been longing for public open space. Yes, I realize I am in Iowa and there should be a lot of sources of space but I desperately miss being able to drive into the mountains with my parter and dog in tow and just escape.
Brenton arboretum is a place to lose yourself as long as you find your way there. It is in Waukee and not well marked until you get close (use Google). Rolling hills, a pond and no other guests while I was there made for a great trip. Only real let down was I expected more trees (not a lot of shade).
Still great for a quick trip away from civilization. Enjoy!
