The OWNER of this bar SLAPPEDMEINTHEFACE. I did not know him, he got drunk and tried to make out with me and when I turned my head, he slapped me. He continued to hold on to me until my boyfriend had to shove him off of me. Even after that, they tried to make us pay our tab. They comped it in the end. Now someone is saying the reason they comped my tab is because my card was declined. My card was declined because I gave her the wrong one. When I went to get the other one and came back, super angry, the owner had disappeared and they had magically decided to comp it. Who comps a tab for someone who assaults their owner unprovoked and then has their cc declined? No one called the police because everyone in that room knew what happened. Our booker has viewed that tape. There is nothing incriminating to me on it in any way. I have worked in bars my whole life and have never seen a situation in which the authorities were not called in the event of an altercation. Very shady.

This place is great if you are having an affair because you probably won’t see anyone you know. I go here from time to time. Haha no I’m not married or having an affair. The have a pool and waaaaay cool patio in the backyard around it. Haven’t been swimming there yet. I’ve only gone in the wintertime when they have outdoor heaters. Drinks are cheeeeap I think a grey goose cranberry cost $ 5. They have pool tables, darts, very big bar. I like it there, one of my fave dives.

I came in for the first time this last Saturday night. I’m not a volleyball player, but I am a craw-fish eater. Paying $ 5 for volleyball, swimming and crawfish is a damn good value. I don’t think they were expecting two East Texas rednecks to walk in and eat it all, so they may be rethinking the«All you can eat» Crawfish after we left. The guy(maybe a manager) came over and asked if we were done eating and we said yes his reply was, «Oh, good.» Seriously? We were there a little early for a Saturday(I’m thinking it was around 7 or 8pm) but the place was DEAD. The parking lot was full but I am guessing those people were all playing volleyball. I am just happy to have found a bar that I can show up, take off my shoes and relax. Now, imagine this place in Miami– think a set of CSI. This place has all the makings to be hot, and maybe it is in the Summer. If everyone on the sand were hotties, if the hot tub would have been full of good times, the pool full, the dj bumpin and people up dancing– they would have 5 stars. But it just was lacking in a big way.

I went for a group meeting and we sat on the back patio. I really liked the service here, but everything else was just OK. I would like to see this place when it warms up and gets busier, and I’m sure I will. Some of the other folks enjoyed there food, but I can’t recommend the stuffed Jalapenos. There is no smoking inside, so people come outside to smoke… which means that you get to enjoy the second hand smoke if you sit outside. When we were leaving and walked through the place the music was BLASTING… I giggled with the«if its to loud your to old» concept in my head. BUT, the place was all but empty — so why the overly loud music? I’m sure I’ll be back to try it again. someday.

Remember White Rock Yacht Club? Probably not. Remember when they moved to East Grand? I said, are you sure that’s a good idea. I know it’s less than a mile away, but it’s over there on Grand. Everyone said«NOWAY! They are adding swimming pools and volleyball courts. It will be AWESOMEDUDE»(because that’s how we talked in the 90’s). I was right. And that’s why it’s no longer White Rock Yacht Club. Backyard Beach Bar has changed it up a bit. It was actually prettier inside when it was White Rock Yacht Club. Now it’s just sort of a dive bar with a cool backyard. The food is okay, not great. I had the stuffed jalapenos and stuffed mushrooms. It’s hard to mess up anything you dunk in ranch. The drinks are okay. Hard to mess up a Blue Moon with extra oranges. And the staff seems friendly, though I was there for a poker tourney funding the local middle school and the waitstaff disappeared about ¾’s way through the night. I’d go here again if friends were going but I probably wouldn’t go out of my way. Also note that the giant Tejano bar across the street gets so packed trucks are waiting to turn in blocking all the traffic coming in or out of Backyard Beach Bar. Plan for an alternative route at night.

I simply love this place. Crowd is like a dysfunctional family. Makes me feel at home. Every one is friendly and social. No stuck up people, just cool cool individuals ready to play some sand volleyball and have a good time!

This was my first visit to Backyard Beach Bar(formerly White Rock Yacht Club) and I certainly had no idea what to expect. If you’re a fan of dive bars, sand volleyball, reasonable drinks, and swimming pools, this is your kind of place. No frills here, just a chill beach-like atmosphere with complete with sandy, filthy restrooms. The waitresses are a bit interesting but very friendly. I definitely enjoyed the beach-like atmosphere although this place is a long way from Uptown. Visit this place with an open mind and you’re sure to have a good time.

We found this place on accident, but what a great accident! We cant wait for summer to come around so we can go play volleyball. Great relaxed vibe with great service. The waitress we had was so talkative and nice. It was really refreshing. The food is typical bar food but it was ok. We just had some fried mushrooms because they didnt have any vegetarian or vegan menu items. We will definitely go back when it gets warmer!

I walk out to smoke a cigarette and a cat walks by me… thats the kind of place I suppose this is… laid back. Only stayed for one drink but the bartenders were kinda hot, the food looked good but didn’t get to try any. I met the manager, he was smoking a cigar out back, supposedly the guy lives there and that was his cat. I guess they throw pretty wild parties when the weather warms up. or so I here.

I live a stones throw from this place and never had the desire to check it out, but went last night, with my girlfriend, to meet her ex-boyfriend… Sounds like fun doesn’t it? It’s always interesting to see the ex or ex’s of your current SO, to get an idea of the type of person they used to date, but mainly to see what they look like. It’s also interesting to watch your SO, in my case GF, get all dolled up to meet ex-SO. WTF? AW, I get it. Do you? This dude had skeleton bones tatted on his hand, a demon on his forearm, one on his neck and just got out of prison… charming to say the least. It is amazing to me, to see, the vast array of dudes one chick will date. Anything and everything from rednecks to punks to preps. I tend to date the same«type»(psycho… j/k baby) of chicken. We all know what the two dudes are thinking… «This dude is F’n her» and«this dude used to F her.» Only God know what the chick is thinking, if at all. Since this dude obviously still wants to F her, he didn’t want to F with me, so he had one beer and left. During the awkward situation(thanks for the help booze) I noticed a couple of things. A– One of the bartenders had the exact same ass as my girlfriend. B– There was a healthy(meat and taters) chick karaokeing in a bikini and towel. C– A whole lot of asswads in beach shorts. D– A swimming pool, Oh F this ABCD S… Meat and taters chick whips off the towel, jumps on the bar and starts dancing. All of a sudden I’m in a makeshift titty bar in the twilight zone. I look around and it appears I’m in the bar scene from the movie Star Wars. Did somebody put something in my drink? I saw a goat skip around the pool and said«come on baby, let’s go to The Goat.»

I visited the Backyard Beach Bar over the weekend. There were volleyball games going on, and boys and girls were entertaining themselves by jumping off the fountain into the small pool(isn’t this a liability issue? No one cared.). With the way the kids were prancing around, it felt like a very see-and-be-seen kind of atmosphere — not the kind where you can just hang out and relax. The larger, main pool was cloudy and they charged $ 5 to get a wristband if you wanted to get in. The service was extremely slow, especially for the lack of customers ordering food. The waitresses were friendly and bubbly, but were not interested in taking care of their tables. We were there for at least three hours, and the waitress only came by twice. The rest of the time, we had to go inside to the bar and order our drinks/food/etc(which actually was faster). And when our food order was taken, she left the table before getting everyone’s orders, and we couldn’t find her again for quite some time. The BBB probably serves a purpose in its location, but I’d rather go to Yucatan( ) or the F.O.E. pool( ). Much friendlier and capable staff at those locations.

Great music! Pool, TVs, volleyball, karaōke, all that good fun. Cheap drinks, and there’s always a TV playing photos from an iPod of past guests. It’s really entertaining. A great place to hang out with friends. :D The waitresses are nice and the bartender can make a good drink. They even like to drink themselves, so everyone is in for a great time!

There are very few people that make me go «really. You just did that?» last night I found those people. All at the Backyard Beach Bar, For one our waitress was… well nothing short of what I imagine it would be like to sit in the washing machine when it was. All the clothes flopping back and forth, being tossed with a giant hunk of plastic. Yeah, I can only imagine that’s what it would feel like to be that much of a spazz. However, the pool(which you could never find me in… ever) seemed cool I suppose, and I am the sucker for beach volleyball and booze. I mean seriously, you can’t go wrong with getting drunk and running around in sand. I had quite the amusing time… even if most of it came from attempts of embarassment. I wouldn’t mind going back to enjoy a beer in a plastic pint glass, while wine gets served in actual glass. Makes NO sense to me.

This joint has a couple of sand volleyball courts, which is a really cool idea because apartments around here are lean on volleyball. That said, the waitresses made actually getting to the volleyball courts a complicated endeavor, and they all looked like they hated life. Still, we had a good time.

3 sand volleyball courts, 2 pools, a HUGE stage area, pool tables, 4 flat screen TVs, a poolside bar. .. it’s like spring break. EVERYTIME! It used to be the White Rock Yacht Club but that burned down nicely. .. now it’s just the Backyard. Drinks are cheap and good. Pitchers of beer. $ 3 to play volleyball. I’ve been going here and playing ball every Sunday night for about 3 months now. This place is awesome. I hear it’s closing at the end of the summer. .. so come get your drunken volleyball fix in now! Hours of operation are currently closed on Monday, Tuesday thru Friday 3pm — 2am and Saturday & Sunday 11am — 2am.
