We have gone to Baylor several time in the last 2 years. It’s usually a amazing place that miracles happen ! But it’s like something changed ?! … They let us out of ICUWAY too early, my family member could barley breath and was still on Anastasia … We were healthy physically(no bruises, bedsores, ect.) Now we hae thrush, a UTI, bedsores, and we are covered in bruises … That’s understand able being in his condition but they make people wait over 20 minutes to use the restroom. They won’t allow him to get up and he has a bed alarm so he calls the nurse and told them he needed to go 23 minutes later he had a accident(how could you not?!) the nurse walked in and looked at him like he was stupid … The woman in the room next to me had me In tear she was desperately begging me to take her to the bathroom …(I am under age so I couldn’t) but I felt so bad! Help never arrived AFTER I told them face to face myself she needed them ! To make things worse I politely asked a nurse if she could help put his cannula back in she yelled at me in a snooty voice«I think I’m a nurse I’ll take care of it! «Dont recommend at ALL

I’ve posted on several places because my mom has recently gone through a lot of medical issues and has moved from one facility to another over the past 7 months. Today was her first day to go home to see how she’d fair at home with her wheel chair. Next week the OT and PT(occupational and physical therapist) will come and check out her house and see what might need to be changed to help her get around and live as close to a normal life as she can. So long story short, my mom had both her feet and all her fingers amputated. No she didn’t have diabetes. She moved to BIR early this month(January) and has a month here to learn to walk and learn to do things for herself. Obviously, she’s taken great strides(that pun was intentional) and she can do so much for herself, but there are great hurdles(this pun was not intentional) ahead of her. She has her prosthesis and has started walking, but still needs the aid of a support«walker». Last week we went and visited her and she gave us a short tour of the facility. The physical therapy floor is impressive. There are a lot of contraptions for exercising, stretching, flexibility, strength training and even a car to learn how to get in and out of a car without leaving the building. The nurses, assistants and techs all seem very nice. Some are better than others, but for the most part, they’re on par with the other facilities. If you have someone who needs rehab, we’d suggest coming here. We had our choice of a place in Richardson which is 10 minutes away, or BIR(25 minutes by highway) and we chose BIR because Dr. Wilson specializes in amputations.

I know this is an odd thing to Unilocal about, but my family has had a really great experience at BIR. My sister is 29 years old and was in a car accident on Oct 31, 2009 resulting in a C-6/7 spinal injury. After 2 weeks in ICU she was moved to BIR for rehabilitation, and in the 8 weeks since then has accomplished amazing things. At the time of the accident we were overloaded with questions and information and we were asking ourselves where was the very best place to send our family member for rehabilitation. You hear that the first few months are the most crucial and just because she had her surgery at Baylor, we wondered if we should consider other rehab options. We did our research and decided BIR was the place for her. Now, 2 months post injury she is further along than anyone could have imagined. Her therapy schedule is packed so she can make the most of every day. The communication between the doctors, nurses, and therapists is so helpful to the comprehensive treatment of their patients. The gym and pool facilities are large and very well utilized. They also have great support group systems for continued therapy post inpatient care. We have been extremely happy and appreciative of their great staff.
