At a birthday party of the quirky stylish and down to earth young owners of this small contemporary gallery that was simultaneously cutting edge and commercial as a Basel Miami art fair, I gained new hopes for Dallas culture. The sentiments here are«art first», which means they show video art, for one, something that in New York only the rich commercial galleries of Chelsea might be able to afford to show, otherwise solely left to grant funded contemporary art museums. The collective exhibit of 10 plus artists, on my visit, felt sophisticated, integrated and as one of the gallery owners added «wasn’t limited to their own specific personal preferences.» Which isn’t to say the exhibit didn’t have a strong curatorial voice. Scope vision and panache wins every time. Check it out
