Dallas Scaregrounds

I really like this haunt! I went with a group of friends I met from meet up … we had a great time. We met some of the actors before they got dolled up in costume … so they ended up picking on us when it came to be night fall and time for the haunt. The haunt is a 3 in one … Its really one long haunt so its 3 at once but there is 3 themes in the haunt. With gate keepers at the start at each one to keep crowds from building up in the haunt which is a plus. I really like when the actors interact and stay in character thru out the whole night. The zombie lazier tag was really fun as well … though I wish we had gotten more game time. I will definitely make this a regular stop during the Halloween season.

First of all– it was WAY overpriced for what you get… and this is what you get versus what is advertised:
«3 haunted houses”= 1 haunted house that has 3 different themes
«festival”= a trailer to buy food, a stand to buy beer, a booth to get coupons, a ride and a game.
The place was EMPTY and the staff was creepy (one of them acutally asked if I wanted to leave my group and go through the haunted house with just him). Also, I’m fairly certain at least two of the zombies were too young to be working there. Scary? Not at all.
One plus– the portapotties were surprisingly clean.

This place was just not that special. It was kinda kiddy scary, in fact they had a dressed up kid working there…
The «three» haunted houses is really just one haunted house with three sections. Kind of a scam to sell it as otherwise.
Once inside ($ 22 for entry, $ 19 with a coupon my group had), you can see the entire «festival» by standing in one spot and turning in a circle. Everything besides the ONE haunted house is a paid attraction (laser tag, a couple of fun houses, etc) so really the cost you paid for the festival just gets you inside to pay more.
Won’t go back and would not recommend.

I Love this house. this was the First Haunted house I have ever been to when I moved to Texas, and I loved it so much that I am now an Actor. I’m going on my 4^th year now (2011) and I cant wait. They added a new attraction called «Walking Dead» If you like Lazer Tag, and Zombie games then this is for you. Its a game of Lazer tag in a grave yard… with Zombies walking around, and they shoot you back.
There are something I would love to change… Make-​up, Costumes, and selection of actors. Its the actors who make or break a house.
I think Dallas Scaregrounds 2011 is something you do not want to miss.

I went two weekends ago, on 10−10−10, which meant that we got a $ 10 discount (I must insert a story here: I went to the cashier and asked for 2 tickets. She said, «$ 44,» to which I countered, «but online, it’s written that tickets were $ 10 cheaper since it’s 10−10−10.» She said, «Yes, $ 24.» I gave her my credit card and turned to my bf in the meantime to ask if I misheard her the first time. He said yes. She also heard me and said that no, I heard her correctly, and had I not mentioned the 10−10−10, she wouldn’t have given me the discount. Lol. Tricky, no? I don’t blame them, though; it is a business.)
So this was a Sunday, meaning very few people, and lines were minimal. Yay!
We went inside the haunted house (which were 3). They do a good job of separating people into groups based on the order in which the tickets were purchased. I was in the first group because we got there as soon as it opened. I waited for a friend to come, so we went with the second group. Nice spacing out of people.
The first part of the house was 3-​D. It was trippy, though not as nice as Thrillvania’s 3-​D house. Then again, this is an old meat-​packing plant, and they don’t have much space, so I appreciated this house.
The next two houses blurred together for me. They were nice, but their decorations seemed so fake at times. Last year we went to Cutting Edge in Ft Worth, where the decorations were much more realistic, but they did have a lot more customers. At the Scaregrounds, what stands out in my memory is this mirror with obviously fake blood paint. Maybe if you darken the door a bit, it’d be nicer. One thing that I really did like were the number of actors. I went to Thrillvania on a Saturday and the entire place probably had as many actors as Scaregrounds did on a Sunday. Thank you, Scaregrounds! The actors do need more elaborate masks, though. A chainsaw or two would be nice. Maybe more than one guy walking around the grounds (albeit, he was good). More tricks than just banging against the walls (this scared me every time, but it gets redundant). Some chasing or pretend-​touching or staring into your face would be good. But I did like the actors since they were probably my age (young) and thus as interactive as the company policy probably allows them.
Another complaint is that there should be better separation of groups while in the house. Maybe every ten rooms or so, have someone stand and hold one group until the next has moved a bit further. If our group has 5 people, as does the next, that’s 10 people in the row, but only one actor in a room. He can’t scare may people properly. I notices the separation only after 3-​D house, and once more, probably after what was the 2^nd house.
The houses were long, though (maybe 20 – 30 mins all together), so no complaints there.
There was a fourth house, something new, but you had to pay $ 5. That was kind of in bad taste, but they probably need to pay off the building costs, so it might be included into the admission price in the future. That one was actually quite good because it was darker, which made those banging noises made by the actors much scarier.
Both this one and the main 3 houses have this feature that I like very much: before you enter, you go through a passageway, which you think is part of the house, and they place an actor or two there, which is awesome. It’s a nice preparation for what’s coming up since you never expected this feature. For the new house, you’re going through a yard, like a graveyard. Spooky!
Overall, since we paid $ 12 each, this wasn’t bad. I don’t know if I would have liked it for the full price, but it is in Dallas, which is a short drive from North Dallas where I live, parking is free, we can go out afterward since all the bars are within a ten-​fifteen minute drive, etc. It is a bit small, but the location is convenient. Check online or in local stores: they usually have $ 3 or $ 4 dollar discount coupons.
