Don Pepe’s

One of my favorite authentic Mexican restaurants here in Dallas! Its rare to find restaurants that make North Mexican food like guiso, so I frequent them often. I always get the guisado de puerco con chili rojo (pork stew with red sauce) served with rice and beans and tortillas of your choice. My meal is less than $ 10 with drink and free chips and salsa. The customer service is great and food fast but fresh!!! They are also cash only.

–Looks can be deceiving. Don Pepe’s looks sketch, even in broad daylight. Seating is similar to an old Wendy’s with hard wood booth-​style tables
–The music box has a good thump

–Friendly service though I wanted my remaining food to-​go but I was handed the check instead so I sat there longer to finish my leftovers. The food was good so I tipped 20%.

–I ordered the chicken quesadilla and this was a flavorbomb by itself. The chicken was well seasoned and marinated. The quesadilla was hot and fresh. No need for sour cream or guac (they’re included). The only gripe is there were a few pieces of cartilage.
–Also appearances may fool you, the rice and beans didn’t look appetizing but they were tasty together and by themselves
–Their house made corn tortilla chips were a delight to eat and I found myself eating the whole basket.

Awesome food! It doesn’t matter what you get, you are guaranteed to be satisfied when you leave! My coworkers and I went today however, I didn’t get the usual, #34-​burrios de carne guisada (that’s bad that I know their menu numbers). But today I ate the pollo con calabacitas (chicken dish with mexican zuccini) and it was delicious! My other coworkers got the chicken enchiladas and the fried fish-​both left their plates empty! Definitely recommend this restaurant and don’t forget to bring CASH!

Breakfast is great. but bring cash… or credit cards accepted. But hell, its worth it. Good torillas!

Family owned and family recipes obviously used. Converted burger king has resulted in a cool neighbor venue with really good food. Consummate hole in the wall
