First, let me start off by saying I’m from out of town and went specially to this sandwich place from Unilocal.Thank you, Unilocal!Second, I am a sandwich connoisseur and obsess over them. It’s weird. Anyways… 5 stars in customer service! All the ladies in the back we’re bubbly and very helpful. The atmosphere has an antique vibe to it and has a lot of random décor. Do not judge their building by its cover! Yes it is an awkward yellow and yes it looks a little rundown but do not fret. I got a cold sub on a French loaf with the bread scooped out. I asked for it scooped out as well. It had ham, turkey, extra shredded lettuce, red onion, oil and vin, oregano, provolone, tomatoes, little mayo and I added black olives. They loaded on the veggies when I said extra and didn’t get sassy with me when I said light mayo and stuff like that. The total was 7.50 $ which is normal for a sandwich for me. Taking the first bite I was impressed about how fresh everything was. Everything had great flavor so I was really happy about that.

My boyfriend and I stopped in Great American Hero on a whim for lunch one day. Man, we were not disappointed! It’s a super friendly, mom and pop type atmosphere. We’d never been before but counter staff was super helpful and made great recommendations when we asked and not to mention they tossed in a free cookie since we were first timers! I had the«Great American Hero» with the works and my boyfriend had a Buffalo Chicken Sandwich, both were solid choices! We may have been first timers, but we’ll definitely be regulars from here on out!

Went here today for the first time. The sandwich was great. Tasted really fresh — kind of reminded me of a Great Outdoors sub. Would have given 5 stars if I had been given the right bread, the sandwich wasn’t a little light on meat/toppings and the guy at the drive thru hadn’t been a little short with me.(It was lunch rush though so I’m sure he was busy). Great food though, I’ll come back!

I had a fantastic sandwich with focaccia bread. I ordered the cheese-only one and the lettuce stole the show. Fantastically shredded lettuce that reminded me of authentic East coast subs. Definitely would stop back here any time I am nearby. If it is your first time eating here I think the drive thru is a little stressful because the lady who took my order was frustrated that I didn’t know all the options I wanted. Imagine ordering from subway blind of the condiments and options in front of you. Oh and don’t bother trying to take a left into this place on Lemmon. You’ll be sitting there for a long time.

Really great sandwich shop. Has an authentic NYC sandwich shop feel. The #13 was a great pick. First timers get a free side/dessert.

This was my go to for sandwiches in Dallas when on lunch on Lemon Ave. The Cuban and heroletta was among my favorite sandwiches their. Fresh bread and ingredients had nice vibrant color making it pleasing to the eyes as well your taste buds. The tea was also on point. This place reminds me of a deli you would see in New York and the service is super friendly and fast. Don’t forget to get your free pickle while your sandwich is being assembled.

Great Cubans! I normally prefer Cubans from Jimmy’s Food Store, but this place makes it just as good. We normally get To-Go. Great place for sandwiches since their portions are generous. My Fiancé normally gets their American Hero! Great variety portion of meats. This is one out spots for good sammies, for sure!

I have passed this gem driving on Lemmon for 7 years now and today I went for the first time and I hate myself for not going sooner!!! The menu is a little overwhelming to take in the first time but if you look ahead of time that should help. The staff is incredibly friendly and kind and they will patiently help you navigate. They even gave me a free cookie for being a first timer(cookies are definitely another way to my heart). The Cuban I ordered was exciting, and very thoughtfully made. Panini bread is sooooo good. I will be going back and going often!!!

Always tasty. Bread is always soft. My ham was a little dry around the edges today, which was weird but still a good sandwich overall. The Caesar salad comes with carrots, cucumber and mushrooms. Different but I didn’t hate it. Dressing was a little sparse but it was still good. Also the drive thru is clutch. I’d recommend for a sandwich craving for sure.

First time trying Great American Hero. I ordered a Philly cheesesteak. Allow me to preface this review with a disclaimer: I am not from Philly, nor have I ever been there. Therefore, I am no expert or connoisseur of cheesesteaks. However, I have eaten cheesesteaks before and I’m fairly certain that cheesesteaks are made with steak that is chopped on a griddle NOT deli sliced roast beef, which is what I was served. Also, the only hot part of the sandwich were the peppers and onions, which I’m almost positive were previously cooked and then nuked. The cheese wasn’t even melted and the bread wasn’t hot. Why have it on the menu, folks? You’re not even trying.

Our favorite sandwich shop! We haven’t tried anything we didn’t like, and these folks are FAST! You’ll have your sandwich in no time! You can get double meat if you want more. I love the 7 whole grain bread. Check your coupon packs in the mail because they often have BOGO coupons! They also have a drive-thru.

*First Time Customers* tell them! You get a first time customers surprise. I ordered the Heroletta(think muffaletta) and it was heavenly. The bread was delish and didn’t tear up my soft palate. The meats and veggies were fresh and didn’t have that«just out of a bag» flavor and look you get at chains. My first time customer surprise fruit salad was nice addition to my meal. Super place to stop between the airport and hotel and I will definitely seek this place out during my next visit.

Such a great find, The people here are so nice! I ordered the #13 hot heroletta with ham, turkey, Genoa salami, cappicola, provolone AND monterrey jack cheese Cajun blend green and black olives and mushrooms topped with«everything.» It was my first time here and the gave me a fruit cup to show their gratitude for my business! It wasn’t a bs fruit cup with fillers either(nothing but cantaloupe and honeydew, ya know the cheap stuff) it had blueberries, blackberries, strawberries, pineapple and grapes! On the way out the handed me a punch card and a coupon for buy one get one free sub! I will most certainly become a regular !!

Holy Earl of Sandwich!!! This place is the chit when it comes to a sammich. First and foremost is the service is INCREDIBLE! I had questions about what was common and what was were good accouterments for each sandwich… I’m weird like that. I had to stick with cold sandwiches as we were headed out and eating on the road. The sandwiches were awesome! The Super Hero and the Italian were both off the chain! This blows all submarine places out of the water… see what I did there?

Went to grab a bite to eat after finishing a job in the area only to discover the staff had decided to close up an hour early. Very disappointing, will revise my review if I ever have a chance to actually try one of their sandwiches.

Today was our first visit and we were blown away. Super friendly staff welcomed us and gave us bread recommendations with our selections. Since it was our first time in they also gave us free mixed fruit cups! Both sandwiches(#6 and #7) were delicious. We will definitely be back! Super impressed!

This is a great find near the uptown neighborhood. It’s about 2 doors down from Jimmy Johns-and I can definitely Say I’ll never think twice about picking Great American Hero! They have about 25 different sandwich options, 10 bread choices and a great deal of free toppings to add. Love the environment! It’s family oriented and welcoming-definitely a nice change of pace from all the brand new establishments. Being in the same location for over 30 years is a rare find here! Great quality sandwiches and ingredients, and not a shortage of choices. They also have free cupcakes occasionally!

The turkey pastrami(#15) was tasty but had I known I would get more lettuce than meat I would have ordered double meat. But I don’t think I should have to… the normal amount that other sandwich shops give you would have been nice. 3 stars because the taste was there just not the filling.

These people know how to sandwich. The sheer number of options is overwhelming– you could probably eat here every day for a year and not have the same sandwich twice. Everything tastes fresh. The basil mayo is legit. The real secret is in the spices and vinegar they add. It’s a sandwich game changer. And I say that as someone who eats at least one sandwich per day, so I consider myself an expert. The service is great. It feels familial and welcoming, which is not something you usually get from a sandwich place. It seems like the staff enjoys working there, which makes me enjoy being there. I even got a free fruit cup on my first visit!

First of all, I don’t understand why some people commented saying their meat is below average and that it isn’t better than subway, because they are WRONG! The staff is so friendly! I had the Italian Meatball Hero and I must say it is THEBEST meatball sub I’ve ever had!!! My life is complete. I will definitely be coming back! Oh! First time customers get a free fruit cup :))

Double Heroletta is an amazingly flavorful sand which. I picked up my order which they had ready in just 10 minutes and the place was unique little spot. If you’re tired of regular sandwich shops like I was this is well worth it.

You will never eat Subway Again! Been going for a while, don’t know why I waited so long to review. A ham and turkey sandwich with DOUBLEMEAT is about the same price as a foot long club at subway. The staff is super friendly, huge selection, they will slice your bread thinner to cut calories, and YOURDIRTYUNWASHEDGREASYHAIRLAZYASSCANORDERTHROUGHTHEDRIVETHRU!!! And if you bring your dog to the drive thru, he gets a treat too! What’s not to love? My personal favs are the #3, #4, and the Cuban. My BF gets the chicken salad twice a week, you can double the meat on that too. Chips, ice cream, pasta salad, soup, dang it, I’m salivating, I’m getting in the car and grabbing my plastic cup for a $ 1 refill, a hot Cuban sandwich, and some ice cream to go

I don’t write reviews very often, but I have gone to Great American Hero several times now and each visit has been so pleasant I couldn’t help but give them a five star rating. The service is exceptional. Today I placed an order through eat24 but the order came in unreadable at the restaurant. They apologized when I got to the shop that they couldn’t read the order, but they hooked me up with some free add-ons and made the order for me quickly while I waited. The food quality is always 5⁄5 and very fresh. The wait time is always low, and the prices are always great. Summary: Service(5⁄5) — always service with a smile Food Quality(5⁄5) — delicious food, lots of options and flexibility. Tons of bread /wrap choices Speediness(5⁄5) — Never had to wait more than a few minutes Price(5⁄5) — excellent value. It’s probably one of the cheapest restaurants in the Oaklawn area, which is amazing given the great quality of the food.

I am so disappointed by this place. I got the BLT American Cheese Hero to go, which their website says has«Bacon, Lettuce, Tomato, American Cheese and Mayo.» I got home and found this BELOW — dry, shriveled up bacon and one slice of cheese on un-toasted bread. You call this a BLT? Where is the L and T??? And how do you make a BLT on un-toasted bread? Pathetic. Needless to say I will not be back since I cannot trust them to prepare sandwiches as promised.

Snapshot: 5⁄5 Bread Options 5⁄5 Quality & Freshness 3⁄5 Décor 4⁄5 Value When you are craving a hoagie/sub/sandwich, look no further and head to this 31 year old Dallas staple. They offer 5 variations of bread: rye, sourdough, ciabatta, sundried tomato, in house plus tortilla wraps. Know for having one of the best pickles(it rivals some of my Philly delicatessen’s) and it’s probable since the owner is from Jersey. Regardless if you are craving a cold or hot item, Great American hero has it on their board. The #7 is iconic — Turkey and Provo, the Italian is fantastic but you really can’t go wrong and they offer breakfast items as well. If it’s your first time, let them know and they will give you something for free. Great place with tons of nostalgia, delicious sandwiches and if your craving something sweet, they offer Harry’s custard. Go be apart of history.

Great sandwiches! My cousin insisted I have one on my latest visit to Dallas. I had the roast beef and had it served warm. you get your choice of bread… I chose jalapeño cheese bread(yum). You then choose your toppings. Service is quick. You order at counter and watch them make it. They also have brownies, fruit bowl, and custard. The fruit bowl included melon, strawberry and grapes. There is parking in the attached parking lot. Many tables to sit at inside. Great place for subs and sandwiches.

This place has a backed up drive thru because everyone loves it. The ordering was confusing for me as my first time, I ordered a phillycheese steak but then she asked if I wanted everything on it so It came out with beef, cheddar cheese, peppers, tomato, lettuce. I expected mushrooms and white cheese not cheddar but it was delicious I just need to specify next time.

I have not been here much, but I finally had a sandwich but salad style. I ordered the mesquite grilled hot hero and they in return removed the bread and created a salad. All in all, not too bad for a decent price. I would come back and try a sandwich next time!

The extra star is for the very friendly service and free fruit cup. I was drinking a mlle or so away and punched meatball sandwich in Unilocal. This came up so off I go. Very confused when I walk in to the place. You order to the right then pay to the left. Menu is a little overwhelming. The very sweet staff helped me out. I just wanted a meatball sub. The lady behind the counter kept pushing the focciacia(sp?) bread so I got it. I should have known better. I like sandwiches very plain and I just wanted a meatball sandwich on regular sub bread with marinara and cheese. $ 9 bucks later, I have a very average meatball sub and a bag of chips. Haven’t ate the fruit yet but ate half the sub and it’s subway quality and I’m sick and tired of Subway. Sick and TIRED of delis with below average meat. I didn’t care for the foccacia bread at all. The meat is gone and I still have half the bread. That’s a no
