Everyone here was super nice and welcoming and explained the different menu options. I got the fried mac and cheese which was definitely different than any other I had tried before. It had bell peppers and a kick to it! I really liked it. My 2 and a half year old wasnt quite as big as a fan. But the corn nuggets were a huge hit and the fried okra rocked my world. The chicken was moist and well seasoned. The place was clean and the bathrooms mysteriously smelled like someone had been celebrating 420 a little early… maybe that explains why everyone is so friendly here?! I personally just shook my head and laughed, but that might Its greasy, its cheap and its good. Everything fried chicken should be.

Very good fried chicken and a menu of side items that makes this a much better downtown option than Williams for fried chicken. The fried okra is especially good.

Fried Cheesecake is fantastic and for only $ 2 bucks, I am definitely hooked! The porkchop basket was delightful once I added some of the hot sauce which was included in my to go bag. The serving was enough for two meals! And adding to the good food was the friendly staff. I will be back soon!

Stopped by here for lunch just now as I’ve been meaning to try this place as I love local chicken places and I am glad I did. Order: 5 piece tender basket w/fries Waffle Fried Oakra Fried Corn on the Cob Strawberry Fanta Everything was cooked properly and the guy serving up the orders doubled the tenders to make sure I had a fresh batch. Seasoning was good and I preferred the chicken to that of Henderson’s or Big Mama’s. Since I live a block away I’ll be sure to come back, especially late night since they are open until 3 on the weekend. Great staff, menu, food quality, and location.

First off, if you are not familiar with the downtown area, I would suggest that you make sure that you give yourself plenty of time for lunch. Or go to one of the other locations in Pleasant Grove, Oak Cliff, or Desoto. I didn’t have too much of a problem because I used to live in the downtown area, but I did get off at the wrong exit and if I weren’t familiar with the area it would have turned into a nightmare with all the one-ways, construction, bus lanes, etc. I saw the reviews and decided that I wanted a chicken fix today so I headed downtown and found them. There is a little side street next to the building with parking, so that wasn’t a problem… just make sure you have change for the meter. Once inside, I have to say it was quite messy. I did, however, go a little bit after 1, so there was probably a pretty busy lunch crowd and no time to clean up. The gal at the register was super sweet and helpful and I probably only waited about 10 minutes to get my food. I didn’t see any heat lamps and the food was still pretty warm after a 15 minute ride back to work, so I think that they may have just cooked it. I ordered the 2 piece dark basket with mashed potatoes and gravy. I did like seeing the bread in there– reminds me of when I take the time to make fried chicken at home. The chicken wasn’t scrawny, they were nice sized pieces. The mashed potatoes and gravy reminded me of KFC knock off. Good, but really just tasted like KFC potatoes and gravy. All in all, I will definitely go back, but I wouldn’t go out of my way, I would just go if I were in the area. The pricing was decent and hopefully I will be able to get back some day to try the catfish or the chicken & waffle. Oh! There is one thing – they are now serving breakfast from 6:30 am to 10:30 am. I attached a picture of the breakfast menu… enjoy!

There’s not much difference between this place and other Chicken spots like Bush’s Chicken, Chicken Express. Nothing special just plain olé fried Chicken. My husband and I shared 5 piece family meal. It came with large size french frys, 4 pieces of white bread, pickle and Jalapeño Peppers. It was around $ 6.00 not a bad deal. It just didn’t move me flavor wise that’s all.

Definitely will not be dining here again. Went on a Friday afternoon with a large group who all feel the same way. Very long line because only one person running the whole front half of the place. Just your typical fried chicken joint. Call it a poorman’s version of Chicken Express, KFC, or even Church’s. The chicken sits under heatlamps and is extremely greasy. They were out of half the sides on their menu, and many of the bottled drinks they have listed they were out of as well. And the one crowning jewel that will kill any restaurant for me: they do not allow you to drink tap water. I HATE when you ask for water, and all they have is bottled water. I would even be okay if they charged me 30 cents for a cup just to cover their costs, but to require you to buy a fountain drink or a bottle of water is just poor.

Ok, so I had heard some friends at work talking about this place for a while. Then one day –BAM!- I had this craving for fried chicken. So I said to myself, «Self, let’s go check this place out!» Well, we did. And, oh my! It was extraordinary! I ordered the 3 piece chicken with a sweet tea and a side of – wait for it – FRIEDCORNONTHECOB! I mean, I felt like I was at the Texas State Fair! Anyhoo… here’s the breakdown of the meal: The chicken: BIG pieces! So, trust me… next time I’m seriously going to only get the two piece meal. It was juicy and seasoned perfectly. The chicken came out in a little paper basket with two slices of bread in the bottom, to soak up the grease. Seriously? Genius! And… they even give you a couple of pickle slices and a whole jalepeno to go with it. Yummm! The sweet tea: Just like Momma(grandma) used to make! I’m a country boy who finally made it to the city, and this tea sent me back home to a time when I can remember working all day long, then finally going home to have a big glass of Momma’s sweet tea on ice. God bless you Momma! She would be very proud of this tea. The fried corn on the cob: The corn was big and juicy. Cooked just right. It has been fried in a light batter that definitely didn’t overwhelm the sweet freshness of the corn itself. I swear when I took a bite I heard Big Tex saying in the background, «Howdy Folks…» Conclusion: Even if you don’t work or live downtown, this place is worth a try. The food will take your mouth on a tiny vacation to the country!

I’m suprised no one has written a review for this downtown establishment. One of my coworkers introduced me to this place and I go here every once in awhile when I need my chicken fix. There are not many places near my work that does fried chicken well so I was glad I found this hidden gem. For only $ 4.99, you can get a 3 piece dark mix with a side(my usual order). When you order a basket meal, it automatically comes with bread, pickles, jalapenos. Now that is pretty cheap deal compared to other places in Downtown Dallas. There are also other options on the menu besides fried chicken which are equally cheap and delicious. The chicken is tasty and juicy. It is not too greasy and the skin is perfectly crispy. I always find myself licking my fingers for every last taste. I can see why this place gets packed during the noon lunch rush. Halls is one of my regular spots for lunch and it hasn’t disappointed me yet.
