Highland Park Village Theatre

It’s really a home theater mislabeled as a «movie theater.» The theater only had 10 seats/​recliners (13 if you count the 3 bar stools at the back). Everyone who walked in, we all kept asking, «Is this it??» It’s basically just a big-​screen TV in a tiny room. Big «summer event» movies, you want to see them on a big screen, not a small home theater-​sized one.
The 10 seats are recliners, but if you’re in the 2^nd row (there are only 2 rows) and the person in front of you reclines his seat, you can’t recline yours because your footrest hits the back of the recliner in front.
Because the theater (a den, really) is so tiny, anyone talking — even if they try to whisper — can be heard throughout the whole room and it’s not like you have the option of switching seats.
Also, because seating is so limited, you’re stuck if you don’t get there early for a decent seat. I felt sorry for the 3 people who had to sit on bar stools and lean against the counter for 2-​and-​½ hours.
On our showing, they also turned up all the lights before the movie was over (though they started letting us in while the previous screening was running, so we saw the ending of the movie first — um, thanks?).
If you want to see a movie on a big screen the way it’s supposed to be seen, there are much better places to go. If you want to watch it on a small home theater screen, simply wait a couple of months for it to come out on Blu-​ray or streaming.

Never in my life had I gone to a movie theater that said it had a showing but was closed when I arrived. Tonight we arrived at the theater at 9:45pm for a 10pm showing of Captain America Civil War. The doors were locked and nobody was inside. What was weird was everything was still running though. The lights were on, the escalator was moving, and the TV at the bar was on. There was just no way to get in.
We initially found this movie showing via Google however we confirmed the showing via Village Theatre’s own website.
I now notice that Unilocal shows Village Theatre closes at 7:45pm on weekdays. Unfortunately I didn’t think it necessary to check Unilocal for closing time considering I had already located the showtimes. Even now you can order tickets for tomorrow night’s 10PM showing of the movie. Copied and pasted from their own website:

I’m not sure what happens if you actually order the movie. I assume there is some sort of refund process that you have to go through. Anyways, this was extremely disappointing and I will not be returning to this theater.

9 times out of 10 when you come here the movie buffers throughout (pausing and restarting). This time during the movie the entire filmed stopped, and employees never updated us as to what was going on or offered a refund… I’m sure this place was great when it first started but everytime I have been the past two years, it is a joke of an experience. The employees are all kids that have no idea what they are doing.

The theater we were in was amazingly unique. It had 10 seats. Definitely never been in a theater that small. It was pretty cool and very comfortable. I could see preferring to be in a giant theater for some big holiday blockbuster movie but for us it was perfect. I could tell that the other theaters were bigger but I don’t know by how much. Overall, it was a pretty cool place to see a movie.

Was very surprised by the setup of this theater. It gives a feel of a home theater and small cozy feel. I like that there can’t be too many people in the theater at once, but this also causes an issue if you have people who like to talk during the movie (lady chatted up her husband the whole movie).
Not sure if I will be going back, but glad I tried out a different thearter.

My first time here I had no idea what to expect. We purchased our tickets and drinks etc and headed to the theatre to grab up our seats. I thought I was in the wrong place as the theatre looked like I entered someone’s personal theatre room. Only 9 seats (super comfy recliners) in the entire theatre. Omg I don’t know if I can watch a movie with 10 or more people ever again. I loved this intimate experience and I’m looking forward to another movie soon.

My girlfriend and I went to see Jurassic World at Highland Park Village Theater, yesterday, 8÷2÷2015, and when we got there, we found out that due to an employee mistake, a couple customers bought tickets for the wrong show time but showed up for the showing we wanted to see. As a result (due to being in a cozy, event theater) there were no seats available. We were a little disappointed, especially considering we had already gotten drinks at their bar, but the manager, Eric, was very polite about the whole situation, apologized, and offered me a refund as well as a courtesy pass to come back and see it another time. Since we had alcohol, my girlfriend and I decided to sit in the lounge area and watch The Walking Dead marathon that was playing on the screen. About 15 minutes later, Eric approached us and informed us that no one showed up for another showing so that there was an available theater to show Jurassic World in. We were awestruck and excited! We got a small, cozy theater to ourself and the movie was excellent!
All I can say is that this theater, despite being very small, has top notch customer service. Eric was very professional, very polite, and handled the situation with grace, and the other employees were more than accommodating and polite as well. I would recommend this place to all of my friends and family.

What a great experience. My Wife and I came here to see Terminator: Genesys. Right from the start the service was amazing. What we didn’t expect was that they had a lounge (which I’m assuming you can bring your drinks into the theatre with you), and the size of the theatre. It was a nine seat theatre fitted with big, leather recliner chairs with cup holder tables between them. It felt like we were in a home theatre. As we left we were once again greeted by an employee wishing is a great weekend.
If you’re looking for a fun, clean, and friendly theatre, this is the one to choose.

Horrible seats… You have to sit at a 90 degree angle. Also too dark finding seats and the screens are small. Confusing on buying tickets… You buy them where you buy the popcorn upstairs.

Small screen and overpriced, I advise you to smuggle in a water bottle if you get thirsty because they charge 3.75 for a small cup of water. And no drinking fountain to be seen.

Just paid an over priced ticket thinking I was going to get to enjoy my movie with a bottle of wine. Nope! They no longer have a liquor license. Should have went to Look in Addison. Why are they still over priced with no license? I want my money back!

Shocking that a theatre in this location would be so underwhelming. The seats were very old and in poor condition. Also, the movie paused twice for an awkwardly long time. There are certainly better theatres in Dallas, so we won’t be coming back.

WOW! Very nice theater, with very comfortable seats! I think this would be the perfect movie spot for a date night since the seats are in twos.

I enjoy going to the movies, however I am not a huge fan of paying for them. While not quite as expensive as Landmark, Village Theatre is still pricey. Which comes as no surprise considering that it is nestled in the heart of Highland Park Village — some if the most expensive commercial real estate in Dallas.
We had already eaten prior to our movie («Tammy»), so we chose not to indulge in drinks and snacks. However, they do offer a full bar for one’s enjoyment.
My biggest complaint would probably be the seating. When spending $ 13 or so on a movie ticket, one would assume at least being comfortable for the 2 hour duration of the movie. Not the case here. The seats only moderately reclined and left both of our bottoms numb by the end of the movie.
Also, the curtains we not pulled completely back on the screen, so both edges (left and right) were hidden — not allowing for a full experience. There were also two glitches in screen, that interrupted our movie. While the they’re was not cramped (which is my biggest pet peeve), it was not the best experience.

My first one star rating — you’d think coming to highland park the theatre would be a lot better. Firstly, the theater itself wasn’t very clean, it was not kept well, and the staff weren’t even aknowledgeable.
Luckily, we did not order any food or drink, but for the price of this place, you may as well just go to some other theater around the area for better quality. The chairs are horrid. That was one of the most uncomfortable chairs I’ve ever had to sit throughout a movie, I had to keep adjusting and moving around because seriously, my buttocks hurt for quite a few hours after the movie, which was not pleasent as I wanted to go to bed lol. Another complaint, during the middle of the movie the projector was messing up! It messed up a few times during that stint, but it was just not a problem any theater should have. The management really should seek into fixing that.
I should’ve trusted all the other reviews on here, but man this place needs some major rennovations! I don’t think I’ll ever be back here to watch a movie, there are far better choices and plenty of other theatres in the area.

I have NEVER had a more awful movie experience in my life!!! And the fact that it was a movie I was looking so forward to see makes it that much more a disappointment! First of all when I’m going to a theater in highland park (the Beverly Hills of Dallas) I don’t expect to walk into something old and dingy! The theater itself is ridiculously out dated! The seats are very uncomfortable! And the leather is very worn down and torn! We kept have a bunch of these little bugs that resembled Mosquitos flying around us! THAT is just gross! The people in there wouldn’t stop talking! And yea that isn’t the theaters fault but to top off everything I’ve already said, the move glitches out smack dab in the middle and kept make this awful, loud stuttered sound for a good 2 min. I patiently waited to see of it was going to get fixed and it looked like it was back ok track… For a minute then did it again this time longer!!! At that point I had enough and wasn’t going to waste anymore time trying to enjoy my movie! The icing on the cake was a staff that seemed less than interested with the problem and actually kind of rude to us! Mesquites dollar movie theater is better than this one! Definitely won’t be going there again!

WORST THEATER EVER! Bugs in the theater. Food was stale, as if it had just been sitting out all day. They have OVER PRICED TICKETS AND PROJECTORS THAT DONT WORK! We literally walked out midway through our movie and got our money back after dealing with a non-​caring and frankly rude staff!
Don’t go here, there are plenty of better theaters near by.

Poor customer service. The film kept messing up, I understand these things happen, but it’s how you handle the situation that sets you apart from your competitors. No one offered us any kind of reimbursement or voucher for a movie in the future. In fact no one was around when we walked out of the theater. Alamo Drafthouse moved me to a smaller theater and changed the time by 20 minutes — and I got passes to come back later and a free drink/​appetizer!

I’m a big fan of the Village Theater. They typically aren’t showing the newest movie out, but that’s ok with me. As long as they’re showing something I want to see, I prefer going here more than any other theater in the area.
First off, I LOVE their comfy seats! They are super-​spacious and recline perfectly. Ok, that may sound goofy, but a great chair is important in order to enjoy the whole movie-​watching experience! Also, The staff is friendly, and they have a cute little bar to buy a glass of wine or a cocktail before the movie. There are several restaurant options in walking distance to the theater, which is the recipe for a great date night!

This is the most vintage, and classiest theater in all of Dallas, small, but perfect for a date, college catch up, or just movie night. The food is good, but what makes this theater special is the location. Highland park village, National historic landmark of our great country. This theater is like nothing I’ve ever been to in the Dallas area, you really just have to come. It’s cozy. The seats are big and staff will treat you well. Good sound and it’s never too overcrowded.

Yes, movies are expensive these days. Yes, even the words «Highland Park» are expensive. Combining the two into one entity isn’t actually as bank-​breaking as you’d think. Movie tickets at this theater are about 25 cents more expensive than other theaters. Seriously, if you’re paying $ 10.75 for a movie ticket, 25 cents isn’t a significant jump, ESPECIALLY when the theater is worth it.
This one is clean, small and reletively empty at all times. That’s nice. Anyone who goes to movies (ever) knows that watching a movie in an empty theater is much better than a full one, hands down.
They have a Pacuigo when you walk into the building, then you go up the escalator to the consession stand. Along with the regular popcorn/​candy/​soda offers, they serve pizza, paninis, etc. Crazy, right?! And they have a bar up there, too.
Movie theater itself is small and CLEAN and very comfortable seats!

What a wonderfully, intimate theatre with a swanky and inviting bar and a highly rated restaurant adjacent to the lobby — All in a magnificent shopping center.
After the classic Theatre façade invites you in, you’re immediately transfixed on the juxtaposition of old
. The vintage theatre has been renovated to resonate a sleek lobby but with with nods to the theatre’s original state. No flashy movie advertisements or concession stands, however the paciugo and upscale bar are really what make this theatre unique.

VERY clean theater and SUPER nice! Leather seats in the auditoriums are a definite plus. It is not overly crowded, so that is always great… even on opening nights! The tickets are about a dollar more than normal (around $ 11 to see a movie instead of $ 10), but that is expected for the area it is located in. This is a GREAT spot for a dinner date, because there are awesome restaurants around it. The Marquee Grill is brand new and just opened above the theater (I have yet to try this place out yet, but it is on my list to try very soon!). Mi Cocina is also across the street (you can’t ever go wrong with that) and Patrizio (yummy italian restaurant) is a few steps over. All in all, this is one of my favorite theaters in Dallas and I see A LOT of movies!!!
