After a tour of the famous sixth floor museum at Dealey plaza, decided to walk around the area for any other possible points of interest. What else could be more interesting than happy hour?! Walked in here along with a family of 4 because IT’S HAPPYHOUR!!! $ 6 beer buckets?! Yes, please!!! Half off appetizers?! YES, PLEASE!!! Ordered the fried okra(one of the better ones I’ve had — batter was a bit on the salty side, but I like salty), sweetwater shrimp(that wasn’t part of the happy hour menu but I wanted it — it was spicy, but good, and the shrimps they served were a pretty good size!) and the Texas pesos(ohhh, GETTHIS!!! I can’t describe how good this was!) Service was good — they tended to us frequently. Even made sure the kids we were with were doing A-OK. I will come back and visit Dallas again someday… and I’m dragging that same family back in here with me!!!

I’ve visited Hoffbrau Steaks — West End numerous times. Overall it’s an OK place to have a meal. Nothing exceptional and I’ve had at least one incident that caused me to stay away for awhile. Food is generally good. Not the best steaks, but burgers and sandwiches are solid. The sides are actually pretty good. And to be honest, the price point for steaks is great so it makes them worth it. The setting itself is heavy on the Texas theme… for a visitor that’s cool… for a local it’s just funny sometimes. Service can be spotty here. I’ve had good and bad, and it seems that turnover is high. The worst experience was entering for dinner and staff being confused and unhelpful. That was tolerable but then we were sat at a dirty table… the server cleaned it, but then we open our silverware to find chunks of food on them. We had several issues, albeit small, in the first few minutes of our visit and just had to leave. On the plus side the manager took note and was very nice about it all. I’ve returned since this and found my visit to be good. This isn’t the best, but it’s a good place for a meal as long as your expectations aren’t soaring.

Food was pretty good here. I ordered the bacon cheeseburger and it was damn good! Prices aren’t bad at all for the portions of food you get. Only thing that sucked about this place was a few of the servers and the hostess had looks on their faces that said, «I HATEMYLIFE!» Our server was awesome but these two were dreadful… Overall a good experience here…

Dreadful service and food. We had a large group of about 50 upstairs. Getting everything set up was a pain. No one I spoke with while setting up knew what was going on. 1 — when we asked about bread, they told us they don’t bring it to big groups unless they’re asked to. We didn’t know we needed to ask for it. 2 — my smoked steak was so tough I couldn’t eat it. 3 — I asked for an unsmoked sirloin to replace it, after some time I began to get concerned they’d forgotten it. 4 — suddenly, the manager placed a ribeye in front of me. The waiter told the manager I ordered a sirloin to replace a smoked sirloin, «I didn’t like.» 5 — It wasn’t that I didn’t like it. It was too tough to eat. 6 — when I told the manager I was done, he said he’d take it off.

Chicken fried steak was wonderful. Now my go to place for cfs. Dragging others along with me for lunch. We take the train, run in and enjoy cfs and lick the plates clean! Not much talking going on while we enjoy cfs. Almost worth going to work(ok, the paycheck is the real reason!)

Great location and walking distance from the Dallas world aquarium! The food was delicious and the portion sizes were HUGE! The food is reasonably priced as well $ 8 for a burger, the sides were separately priced. Also my drink was very strong but still tasty. Would definitely recommend this place!

This place is nice, felt like a authentic Texas diner. Husband had the sirloin steak. I had the Rainey fried chicken salad it was good. The peach cobbler was not what We expected though. Peaches tasted like canned in heavy syrup… Was told by the waitress it’s as close to grandmas homemade as you could get… I guess it depends on where you live. The wait staff were all sweethearts and professional.

It’s all about the burgers there. Make sure you request a side other than the Brau chips, though. I’ve been eating there periodically for years(I lived across the street for 3.5 years), and I’ve never cared for their homemade chips. This time, we tried the steamed broccoli, and it surpassed my expectations(very tender, flavorful, and lacking that aroma you tend to get when cooking the broccoli). We ordered the Avocado Burger(with jalapeños, onion strings, and pepper jack cheese) and the Dr Pepper BBQ Chicken Sandwich, and both were very flavorful(but just shy of «great»). It was only when my burger came in at a heavy medium-well that I realized I hadn’t been asked how I wanted it cooked.

Very good, kids friendly restaurant in the West End historical district! The atmosphere is very western and casual. I strongly suggest the Hoffbrau Chips(appetizer) and the 2-step Texas steak! Prices were very reasonable!

Brief stop in Dallas during our honeymoon roadtrip from Ft. Lauderdale and did search for authentic Texas steakhouse in downtown Dallas… Which lead me here. Long wait but so worth it! You MUST have the sausage as a starter… Wow it was just amazing! And be sure to get the mac ‘n cheese as a side… By far the best I’ve had!

The only reason I’m giving this 2 stars as opposed to 1 star is because once they finally got the food right, it was good. I’ve been here twice now since having moved to the area and both times they’ve gotten the order wrong… like really wrong. The first time I went I ordered a gluten free avocado burger and when they brought out the food, my burger was covered in fried onion strings(which contain gluten). When I brought it to my waiters attention, his response was that I didn’t request them be removed. Ummm, I ordered a gluten free burger… then when they brought me another they placed it on the same plate which STILL had remnants of onion strings on it. The second time I went was for Valentine’s day this past weekend. I thought my previous experience was maybe a one off but, unfortunately, that was not the case. We ordered the sausage appetizer and it came out still cold. It took the waitress over 10 mins to come back around to our table for us to bring it to her attention. I ordered a house salad that never came out and when I asked my waitress about it, as she was bringing us our meals, she said they don’t come out early which is a lie. The last time I ate there, I ordered a salad and it came first as did everyone else’s at the tables around us. Lastly, I ordered an avocado burger again and made sure to specify gluten free w/NO onion strings. Well, they got that right but then forgot the avocado. They forgot it on my burger as well as my friend’s salad. Needless to say, I’ll be hard pressed to give them a 3rd chance.

This is my second visit to Dallas and my second visit to this restaurant. I normally like to try new places when I travel, but this place was SO good the first time that I had to come back.(I should add: this time we were staying in Desoto about 30 minutes away). It did not disappoint. The steak is out of this world, sides are great, too, and the price can’t be beat. We had to wait 15 minutes because we came at peak hour on a Saturday night without a reservation, but 15 min is nothing and once seated we were never rushed. Our waiter, Francisco, was friendly and very fast. My son drinks pop like it’s water and he was constantly ahead of refreshing the glasses. Finally, not only am I writing this review because this place deserves it, but I don’t want to forget the name for my next visit!(Took a little retracing for me to find this time)

Overall this was a good pick to eat with a group of co-workers. The two-beer bucket special is kind of cheesey as they bring you a beer bottle and a small bucket with one bottle in it. It basically just takes up room on the table. On the bright side the half-price apps are a cheap way to fill up if you’re not in the mood for meat. Our waitress, Carla, was attentive and put up with our shenanigans. My steak was honestly super tasty and cooked perfectly. That’s all I really ask for in a good steak.

Simple food. Good service. It’s Texas. What you see is what you get here, and it was pretty darn good. We stopped at this steakhouse for lunch AND dinner to go one day before a long day in class for work. Our waitress was terrific and full of personality. We loved her. She was super helpful and kind when dealing with all 15 separate checks, to go orders, and special instructions. My steak was cooked perfectly, my sides were good, and everything was exactly how I ordered it both for my meal eaten in house and my to go order. This isn’t a fancy schmancy steakhouse. It’s a comfortable, Texas steakhouse and I liked it just fine.

Delicious! We had the Coronaritas. I had steak and my BF had ribs. Everything was great, the steak was juicy and favorable. We had the bacon wrapped shrimp and jalapeño appetizer. It was coated in their BBQ sauce which is made in house. The waitress gave us a little to take home. Even the rolls were good. Service was great too. Everyone was nice and service was fast.

My medium rare steak was woefully undercooked. I sent it back. It came back still undercooked. The cheese on the mac n’ cheese was not very well melted. I had high hopes for Hoffbrau, but they were let down. It’s kinda like when I saw Jurassic Park 2. At least I didn’t cry this time.

First things – West End used to mean parking nightmare. I had no problems whipping into a spot up front, but they have the pesky credit card only meters. You have to pay the meter to eat here. Second – Candied Bacon is amazing. It’s better than it sounds. We were there for happy hour and appetizers were half price. I wish I had just ordered a ton of bacon with my Prickly Pear Margarita and called it good. Third – the steak is not great. I know it’s a steakhouse, but mine lacked flavor and was not as tender as I’m used to. Candid Bacon… Service was excellent.
