Maybe a 3rd star would be considerable because of the homemade tortillas. For being a very common casual Mexican place and not being in a very good area, the prices are high. Seafood is not very great, but lunch specials are reasonable. Not a very clean place, I will not return.

My husband and I walk to this place all the time for dinner. The beef enchiladas are awesome. We also come for the charro beans and house made salsa verde. Delicious. The owner is always there and he is the nicest guy, always making sure we have everything we need. An East Dallas treasure!

I’ve only been here for breakfast and lunch, but it’s always been good. The huevos rancheros are great and the ceviche is awesome! The atmosphere is authentic and dive-y, but I love that. There is seating outside, but I’ve never tried it.(I think you’d be smelling a lot of car exhaust.) Bonus: It’s a great place to practice your Spanish.

I’ve had wildly different service on separate visits to this place. The food is okay, a little bland, but good. However, they consistently get my order wrong or have to run to the store to get something to finish a dish or drink. I’m not terribly impressed that you don’t have frozen spinach on hand, people. So, long wait for meh food. The manager and staff are nice enough though. Also, it is ear-bleeding loud on the weekends, so sit outside if it’s warm enough. They had a mariachi band on the Saturday that I went, but they weren’t playing, instead some dude and his kid were blaring the holy hell out of some Tejano music.

«The breakfast is good.» Bobby said, as we walked from our Junius heights duplex across Columbia to an old building that from the outside, looks like it might not pass health inspection. You are in the east Dallas hood as Columbia runs down to near deep Ellum when it turns to Main St. $ 4.25 menu includes migas and other Mexican egg dishes as well as American breakfast, like eggs bacon and pork chops. The coffee was weak, I practiced some Spanish, and I was skeptical at such a underpriced meal. The migas were good and served with fresh homemade beans and pappas. «Do the beans have lard?» I asked the waitress. «Lardo?» I tried communicating to her blank face, to no avail. «It’s ok!» I assured. They tasted like bacon. «You should always assume in a place like this that they use lard.» Bobby advised. The cantina atmosphere was clean and distinctly Mexican. Big screen TVs, a juke box, full bar and bands on the weekends. Everything’s casual. «When do you close on weekends?» «12 or 2 depending on customers.» The waitress explained. The owner greeted us at the table. $ 11 for two allowed me to treat. «I stopped coming so much because the dinner prices and portions would vary too much.» Bobby confided to me on the way out.

Great friendly service. Luch special fajitas for $ 4.99. Can’t beat that. And the manager always remembers what you have had before even when you have not been back in a while.

We tried this place out because we wanted authentic mexican food in an area near us. We were pleased with the quick and friendly service. The food was delish! We had the cheese and beef enchiladas. The rice was so good and the overall price for what we got was perfect! We had 2 margaritas on the rocks and they were tasty. The manager was nice to us, and the server was attentive and friendly. We will definitely return to this restaurant for their ritas and good mexican food! Why go to Chuy’s when you can save so much more money, your taste buds be pleased, and leave knowing you got authentic mexican food! Don’t let the neighborhood stop you, this place is worth it if you’re in the area!

I had lunch here today after reading positive reviews for this restaurant. A good choice. As the name implies, this is a Mexican restaurant that specializes in seafood.(Ostioneria apparently means«oyster house» I was told on my way out. But I don’t recollect seeing oysters on the menu. But it is August and there is no «R» in August!) They also have some Tex-Mex items on the menu. Chips and salsa with boraccho beans to start off, with both the tomato salsa and tomatillo sala. The regular salsa was fresh, with plenty of flavor, but the tomatillo was outstanding. We ordered catfish(which the waitresses said was better today than the snapper — credit for honesty) a la plancha, which was very good. Also the fajitas de res e camarones(beef and shrimp). It was excellent. The homemade corn tortillas were as good as any I’ve ever had. The pico de gaello was very fresh and flavorful as was the guacamole. Friendly and efficient service. The meal was also a good value as the prices were reasonable and the portions were very generous. I spoke to the gentleman who seemed to be in charge today when we left. He pointed out that they have an economical lunch buffet, and also serve breakfast. Breakfast included breakfast tacos for $ 1 and a huevos rancheros special(you need to ask for the special) for $ 1.99. I’m not much for breakfast, but sounds like you can’t beat the price!

I finally had ostioneria translated, once I found out what it meant I had to try this place out. Borracho beans with the chips & salsa was a good surprise. We had the seafood soup, octopus cocktail and oysters. All very good and the drink prices were terrific! Excellent service, good little bar area & patio. Bring the kids to sweat it out in the bouce house too!
