I just found out Peek in the Attic is closing at the end of January. There is nothing about this on their website.

As I write this review, «Peek in the Attic» is listed as an antique store. It really isn’t that. It is more of a «curiosity shop.» And that fits in well with the«throwback» meets«boutique-ey» shopping experience of Snider Plaza. There aren’t many true«curiosity stores» out there today because of the giant retailers that exist. For the younger folks that have never been in one, think of Peek in the Attic as being like the«store» side of Cracker Barrel but way more«indie.» Peek in the Attic gets overlooked in Snider Plaza, despite being there forever. As I passed by, I always figured it was a home décor place for women. My wife and my mother in law went in there once and came back and reported to me on it… so I decided to make a trip and check it out. As I walked in, I was met with a lot of the holiday décor that you would expect from a typical décor store. However, as I walked back into the store, I was greeted with an eclectic mix of various things. Rather than try to describe them, I’ll just list them here: –Greeting cards –Collectable christmas ornaments –Steinbach Nutcrackers of all different varieties –Sports décor for local teams –Unusual desk clocks –Tools — Things like flat multitools for your wallet or a peanut butter and jelly knife for scraping out the bottom of your peanut butter or jelly jars. –Toys — especially toys that are reminiscent(or reproductions) of toys of the 50’s and 60’s –Antique and/or throwback cowboy boots –Food items, including cane sugar beverages, made the«old fashioned way» as well as seasoning mixes, and more unusual food items.(Example: One can buy the Bertman Hot Dog Mustard from the Cleveland Indians stadium here.) –Etc. In any case, it’s definitely worth a trip. There’s a bunch of really cool stuff to check out there. I believe that the owners are planning on retiring soon as they’ve run the store for many years and the rent situation has gone up somewhat.(The owners are really nice, by the way. When I was there, Bill and I had a great discussion…) Peek in the Attic represents a dying breed of outlet… It will be sad to see them go when they do retire.
