Pitt Grill in Oak Cliff on Davis at the corner of Hampton remodeled and reopened under the Metro Diner name and the food and atmosphere remains virtually the same.

A 3 am after bar visitation led me to this place with my wife and it did not dissapoint. Biscuits and gravy were awesome. The biscuits were grilled and the waitress added sausage to the gravy making it a fabulous starter. We then split a BLT and were informed they were out of tater tots. :(Waitress recommneded the home fries which were out of this world. TO be fair we had mucho drinko so I would be interested in a weekend breakfast trip. Nice atmosphere.

It’s 4 o clock in the morning and the BF and I are cruising. We stumble upon Metro Diner and decide to give it a whirl. I wanted something warm, gooey and comforting so I asked for a grilled cheese sandwich with a cup of chili. The waitress told us they were out of chili so I asked for tomato soup. They were out of that too but had chicken noodle soup. I debated this and made my mind up when the waitress said the soup was Campbell’s right out of the can. WHAT? I ended up getting a ham and cheese sandwich that came with potato chips and a pickle. The BF got breakfast goodies. The little diner is open so you can pretty much see and smell your food being cooked. The waitresses are super sweet and the menu is definitely cheap BUT half of this stuff you can easily stay home and whip up with half the amount of grease, half the price and just tip yourself for your effort.

If I see something shiny and chrome-like shimmering in the distance like a delicious diner mirage… I WILL stop there. This time was no different. I walked in breathing the smell of burnt coffee, hot griddle cakes, and Flo the Waitress’s cheap perfume.(Okay, I’m getting a little carried away here, but you know what I mean.) 5 for atmosphere and 3 for food… greasy, hangover, diner food up the wazoo! This place is probably most legit at six in the morning so you can hang out with the old-timers and their cup of dip, OR at two in the morning so you can get thrown up on by SMU party girls. Don’t tell me that isn’t appetizing! Put some George Jones on the jukebox, watch the fry cook do his magic up front, order the steak’n’eggs, and tip your waitress generously. Lord knows she deserves it.

It is called the Metro Diner now and I love this place! Biscuits & gravy with two eggs and lots of piping hot coffee. The waitresses will call you honey or sugar or darlin’ in the way a beloved aunt would. They have the jukebox spitting out tunes with lots of laughter and good times. Prices are cheap! Food is good! You can watch the fry cook at work!

This place should be called«Hangover Haven with a Smile». I think I might send the owner a letter. The actual name of this place changed to Metro Diner. It’s not the Pit Grill anymore. *tear* My meal: Two eggs over easy, hash browns crispy with biscuits and gravy(which are grilled with butter), gggg, sorry… think I drooled. My BF and I are regulars, so when we walk in our waitress is ALWAYS there and calls us «her babies». Are you convinced yet? You could literally be in and out of that place in 10 minutes. Our lunch/brunch/greeeeezzzy oil stomach coater is never over $ 15. The grilled ham and cheese(so my BF says) is the best thing on the menu. The blueberry pancakes are also worth a go… So…next time you want to roll over and die from the night before(or morning if you’re a rock star), just think… I just need to make it to the Diner for some biscuits and gravy. Open 24 hrs. True.

Two eggs over medium, bacon, hash browns, toast, coffee and a water. Every dang time it’s perfect(and under six bucks). The staff here are some of the friendliest people around. I love that it’s blocks from my house and always open.

I think this place is actually called Metro Grill now, but it’s still the same greasy spoon that it always has been. It’s scary to come in here some nights at 2:00am because it’s full of sketchy looking folks… including ME! I’m usually needing a greasy breakfast or patty melt and Pitt/Metro Grill delivers every time. The waitresses are cool and the fry cooks are old school. Word… don’t make eye contact with anybody in here after 1:00 in the morning! HA!

For the last 10 years I’ve been forced to stop at the Sulpher Springs Pitt Grill every time we made the trip to Arkansas to visit the family. And every year I complained… the food wasn’t very good, it’s WAY too smokey, etc. This place is NOT anything like the Pitt Grill in Sulpher Springs. Without losing it’s greasy spoon charm, it’s managed to bring up the food quality a couple of notches. In Dallas you sort of have to. I like my eggs on the hard but greasy side. I like my pancakes fluffy and buttery BEFORE I add more butter and syrup. I like my bacon not-to-crisp. They got my food dead on perfect. Whoever was running the grill was truly«Mel» in my book. I will go back, maybe not every Saturday morning, but some. I have too many decent places close by.

Epitome of greasy spoon, the Pitt Grill(which is part of the Metro Diner family) serves some of the most delicious pancakes anywhere. I’m not throwing that around carelessly either — most pancakes are spongy and flavorless — not so here.(I used to be more of a fan of the waffles until they moved to the Belgian style, which I cannot get excited about.) The Pitt also serves a surprisingly tasty hamburger – that I would have never suspected. And you can’t beat the $ 7 Hobo Special. If you are unnerved by Waffle House, you might skip it. (Note on payment: now accepts credit cards, used to be cash only.)

This North Oak Cliff diner is open 24⁄7 and its patrons are like the characters in a David Lynch movie. From North Oak Cliff hipsters AND gangsters to truckers and tricksters. You will hear the regulars tell whopping tales of their glory years. The place is dingy, but is great for after-hours coffee and chat sessions with friends. The Pitt is always cookin’.
