I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder, this place is without exaggeration the most delicious chicken Of which I’m aware. To me it’s irresistibly good. I live pretty far north but the drive is totally worth it. Yes area is bad and you WILL99% of the time be approached by beggars, so either be prepared to ward them off or get it to go. The food here is totally worth it though, exaggeratively good to me!

Im Sorry, but I really don’t understand why this place is getting such high stars. Their chicken is good average fried chicken… Nothing praiseworthy. I had the 3 piece mixed combo. The chicken pieces were a bit dry and the crust really lacked flavor. The bread that comes with your chicken combo is just a pre-packaged roll that you can buy at any supermarket. I grew up in the South, and i know good fried chicken when i taste it. I know great fried chicken when i taste it… This chicken is somewhat good, but not great. Its edible if you’re hungry and on a shoestring budget. The people giving this place such high ratings obviously aren’t experienced in eating Great fried chicken. Im sorry Popes. I had high expectations before I ate here. Those expectations weren’t met. There is better fried chicken out there…

I love going to Mom and Pop places and this place is so legit, the prices are so affordable and the chicken is so good ! If you’re on the east side of Dallas be sure and stop by, and get the corn fillers they are soo delicious!

Pope’s is local and legendary in this east Dallas neighborhood. Pope’s is the kind of chicken I take on a afternoon picnic at the lake, which I did recently. It’s always cooked fresh. It’s a little bit greasy(never a bad thing). It’s best accompanied by a side of corn fritters, mashed potatoes and cole slaw. I personally think the corn fritters at another local place is better, but you can give it a try yourself. The people that work there are some of the nicest and friendliest people you will find. Which is pretty amazing, considering they are working in a hot kitchen most of the day. There are a couple outside tables, but I always take my food to go. And in the summer, I’m always tempted to get a Root Beer float. You know it’s good when you see church ladies getting chicken and a pepper to go on a Sunday afternoon. Dang it. I wish they had a drive thru.

Chicken was moist, flavorful. Skin was crunchy & tasty. Definitely adding to my go-to list for fried chicken craving but I dont want to sit down at a restaurant days. Skip the fried okra(too much batter for me), but the chicken was DELISH and cheap and fresh. Also saw other people ordering lovely looking soft serve cones!

The service, friendly. The chicken.oily. Crunchy, but lacked a little flavor for me. As for my fellow eater. He got a «tummy ache.» He enjoyed the flavor, but not what followed after. Our side: fried okra. Cooked perfectly. Tasty. Bread: dinner roll, the ones you buy on the cheap for Thanksgiving. I understand you get what you pay for. But good chicken is good chicken. In case you didn’t read my tip: The location is a sketchy and the road is a little congested. But they do have fried gizzards, they however take a little longer to fry**

love this place… chicken is ALWAYS fresh never ever have I experienced any bad service either. If we are just speaking of the term fried chicken this is good for what it is. I would have gave 5 stars but they told me they didnt take debit cards at the time and I had to go to an ATM next door(I was hungry so I was bitchy) lol nothing more to say basic fried chicken, french fries, pepers, rolls… kinda like a better version of williams chicken

I actually like this little shack and its made to order sides and chicken livers and fried chicken. Not many frills but they are kind and very attentive to the customers when they enter and the hot food is a big plus.

Really good fried chicken. Crispy, tender(not dry) and seasoned well. Cream gravy is a must too. Definitely will be going back.

Was turned onto this place by someone in the restaurant industry and was not disappointed… i had my first chicken fried steak and some really good fried chicken and had sides of corn fritters and fried okra… needed a nap after that lunch… but i’ll be back… actually took some to go as well…

The Fried Chicken stand in Dallas and a true mom and pop«dive». The recipe is based on the original«Church’s Fried Chicken». The original owner — David Pope” use to be a sales associate at Church’s corporate office back in the late 1970’s and 1980’s and he got the recipe because Church’s management wanted to change the flavor. Brother’s Fried Chicken a few miles away may be more popular, but Pope’s chicken taste much better and is marinated overnight and the place is open late. After you visit the State Fair, come here and get some chicken! The food is cheap and great for a late night snack. Sides include Mash potatoes, gravy, corn on the cob, and okra

Hmmm… let’s see… it’s chicken… it’s fried… there’s sweet tea available. Meets all the requirements of a fried chicken restaurant in the south, I’d say. Located in East Dallas. Chicken is not too greasy, which is a big plus. There is very limited seating, and the employees speak Spanish as well as English. It has a variety of menu options, too. Mix and match. Mmmmm…chicken tonight for me!
