The Rocking Crab has the best soy flavored chicken wings I have ever tasted. The king crab is so divine. I love this place.

I loooove seafood, I have eaten at similar style places all over the world! And this place did not meet my expectations which was low due to the reviews that I read on here. I was visiting texas staying in the DFW airport area when I had a craving for some crab. So I searched Unilocal and found one of my favorites The Boiling Crab was 20miles away and this restaurant which claims to have comparable food selections was only 3. So since it was late and I had my children with me I decided to go to the close restaurant. To my dismay the place was empty, the 1st clue that I should have ran. Yet I stayed. We were greater and seated promptly and the customer service was well. They only have 2 choices for flavor, the sauce that they made or no sauce at all. The sauce tasted old. I ordered mild for my son and hot for myself but his was hotter than mine. Fortunately the kid could handle the heat. The most mind-boggling thing about my visit to this location is that they were blasting the unedited version of all of the latest hip hop music. Obviously, myself like many other Americans enjoy some ratchet music from time to time, however, that has no place in a dinning facility that serves children. I heard the N word at least 100 times that evening. A few more customers came in of various ethnicities and sat down to eat and they did not seem bothered by the music so I choose to eat quickly and leave. However, I don’t understand why that was played. In short I will not return. Ih, lastly they did not honor the 10% off and free drink promo that they are boosting on Unilocal and that is plastered on the door at the entrance. The 2 stars is for service being good. Old sauce, poor sauce selection, volgur music, and not honoring Unilocal promo earned it’s place a 2 star score.

The waiter was great! Very helpful. I think the food will be good, if it’s not I’ll be salty. But I’ve heard good things about this place. My sister had come here before and she said it was good.

The place reminds me of the boiling crab. The service could be better. The food is great and there is never a wait. I’ve been here twice and got crab legs and chicken wings. The food consistency is good. I will be back. Also they have food specials

Got #4 Combo which had octopus, sausage Half pound mussels Pound of crawfish. The octopus was undercooked, mussels were pretty flavorful. Crawfish was not juicy considering they were in season.

I happened to be in the area and Unilocal said Rocking Crab was in the area. Being a boiling crab fanboy, I gave them a try. Upon driving up, I wasn’t sure if they were open, even when I walked in, it appeared the staff were surprised. Nonetheless, I ordered a lb of snow crab and potatoes. They offer a variety of sauces(mild, medium and hot). I ordered the mild. When it arrived I have to admit, it was the juiciest and thickest sauce I’ve seen. It was almost like a barbecue sauce. And it was the perfect flavor for me. The only problem with the think and super juicy is that when I cracked a few shells I actually saw sauce flying off my table — could’ve been dangerous for anyone walking by or in next booth They had large flat screens around and music playing too. Nice atmosphere and servers checked on me constantly, that could also be because there was only one other occupied table at the time too. They automatically bring a container with lemons, limes and butter, which was nice. They also drop off some crab crackers and a pair of super large scissors for easy surgery into the shells. I mentioned that I wanted to use my free soft drink offer from Unilocal and the server asked if I was also writing a review and offered an additional 10% off the entire bill for doing so. Nice touch.

The good: service was great, our waiter was friendly and quick. He also took time to explain all the specials. Also, there was no wait and it was a tad bit cheaper than competitors(but not by much, crawfish is currently 7.99/lb, shrimp is 11.89/lb). Instead of bibs, they give you a full on freakin apron. Legit. Wings were good here, even better than the crawfish. The bad: Crawfish taste and quality are both a resounding big, fat NOPE. First of all, they were small and didn’t taste fresh, despite the fact that we are still in season. I’ve seen tiny lobsters at most other places. Also, seasoning here is so bland and messy. It’s just red sauce on top of red sauce that gets everywhere. There’s no «clean» way of eating this type of seafood, but I was elbow deep in splotches of red. And it didn’t necessarily taste like anything. Can’t say it tastes Cajun nor can I say it tatted similar to the Asian style. It’s just bland and unsatisfying. The verdict: Skip. You’re better off anywhere else for crawfish.

This place got another shot from me this weekend and I’m glad that it did. They have made some changes to the flavoring and it’s less of just a moist rub of spices and more buttery and delicious bringing them in line with their competitors. The price is great too. We had six beers, a pound of crawfish, two of the crab and shrimp specials and an order of fried shrimp to go. It didn’t even come close to being as expensive as other places where you get much less. This place is back on my radar, for sure. After all, I am Martha Washington.

I’m always down to try new seafood/crawfish joints, so we drove here on a Saturday night. Glad there was no wait & the service was fairly quick! But lol @ all the people comparing this place to boiling crab. The food taste nothing like BC. We got crawfish & the shrimp/crab leg combo, which comes with corn and potatoes. Rocking crab sauce has a very unique flavor. I’ve never had crawfish with that type of sauce before. The sauce is super thick, and has a paste like texture. the sauce did have a nice flavor though, w/some raw garlic inside, and the heat wasn’t bad(kind of wish I got it spicer bc mild wasn’t anything). Some places I can eat crawfish without salt/lime/pepper but here I had to make my sauce bc the inside of the crawfish was not too flavorful compared to the shrimps. We personally liked the shrimp and crab legs better than the crawfish. Only thing that I tried that was similar to BC was their cajun fries lol. Which was good! Wish it came out a bit hotter though. All in all rocking crab is good, in their own unique way. They have a chill atmosphere, and love that they close at 12. Would dine here again.

We wanted to try boiling crawfish but they were closed. So we found rocking crab that closes at midnight and decided to give it a try. I’m not comparing Boiling to Rocking because I have never been to Boiling. Parking was horrible outside, so I was assuming it was from the Rocking Crab but there were only few customers there. We had 4 pounds of crawfish. I do like the freshness of the crawfish and its probably in season. The crawfish were not flavorful or anything. It seemed like it was just boiled and the sauce were poured over the crawfish. The sauce was not Louisiana style. I’m a pretty disappointed at this place. The service wasn’t great. Waited until we finished our food to get refills for our drinks. We finished and waited like 20 minutes to get our check. Well actually they never came so we had to go to them and ask them to check us out. They were taking care of other big groups. I don’t think I would be coming back until their cooking is improved. Their bathroom were very messy. Paper towels were everywhere in the sink, trash can were full so there were paper all over the floors. They had no soap which is a no no at a crawfish restaurant. I was unable to clean my hands. The paper rolls had crawfish sauce all over it in the bathroom.

This place is not as good as boiling crab let me point that out first. I have been to boiling crab a handful of times, and their flavor, seasoning, and spice is always on point and delicious. I have never been able to find any other place with the same concept to have the same flavoring as boiling crab. The seafood, however, is really fresh and delicious. The king crab especially was our favorite. The service was okay as well… I felt like we did not need much attention but when we did need something a waiter was not around. This place was not even packed for a Saturday. In the end when we got our bill we gave them two credit cards to have it split in the middle and the guy only charged one card… And again when we wanted to tell them of our issue no one was around. So service and flavor bad, I don’t plan on coming back here. I rather wait in line at Boiling Crab!

Last time we went there was in September — I forgot to update this. They served us frozen crawfish but cashier swore it was fresh. Except they weren’t fresh, tail meat was tough and the flavor was really bad. The cashier claimed it was because crawfish was no longer in season so they were small. That doesn’t explain why they were tough and tasted rancid. We’ve actually had frozen crawfish at other places that tasted light years better than whatever it was they served us. They could have at least been honest and admitted it. We only ate a few of the 3lbs crawfish we ordered and couldn’t eat anymore. They get 1 star cuz the snow crab was good. Too bad most of our order was inedible.

Love Boiling Crab but hate the wait? Enter Rocking Crab! So, first, if you’re going to compare EVERYTHING to the Boiling Crab, don’t even come. It’s called Rocking Crab, not Boiling Crab. They’re not going to do everything just like the Boiling Crab… but they pretty come close for almost half the price. We came on a Friday night and we didn’t have to wait 3 hours to be seated, which is a win in my book! We grabbed one of their specials(they have all kinds of deals and specials, which is also a plus) which included crab, catfish and shrimp and your choice of beer for like $ 30! Again, win. I don’t have any complaints about our first visit to Rocking Crab and I’d say give it a try if you’re wanting some pretty good seafood!

Came here because Boiling Crab was closed. I have to give this place another try when crawfish is in season. Regardless of the season, the paste they used for the crawfish was not my favorite. Their cajun fries and shrimp are decent. Service is friendly and quick. They offer gloves and bibs like most places.

This place is really easy to find and there were no issues with parking or waiting. In fact, there were only 3 other tables on a Sunday night so I hope they make it. Ordered the fries like everyone else to munch on while we decided on 2lbs of craw fish and the number 3 combo: shrimp and crab legs. Around 40 bucks for all of that and a beer. By the way, the service was great. The young man kept coming by to make sure we were happy patrons. *thumbs up* So something interesting with the sauce that I was not prepared for even though I read the reviews was that there is soooo much raw garlic in it. When you order your plastic bag of yumminess it comes doused in red«cajun-flavored» sauce with enough raw garlic in it to ensure none of us will ever become vampires. As a garlic fan I loved it, even though I brushed my teeth twice already and can still taste it the next day, but I know everyone can’t possibly like that. So garlic haters please be warn. But I’m sure if you told the waitstaff you’re not into garlic they would remove it for you. I also got medium spice sauce with the extra hot on the side to see if it was spicy at all. And verdict is– even the medium spicy sauce got me sweating a bit but I think it has a better flavor than the extra hot. Overall the craw fish and crab legs were good. I was a little disappointed with the shrimp as my whole bag with the exception of one or two were kind of old and hard to peel. The sauce is really the issue making me unsure whether to give this place a 3 or a 4. For me it didn’t taste like cajun, but Korean. And yes, I know it’s in K-town but still. If you’re going to say it’s cajun, make it so. I personally think the sauce could be used as a badass marinade for pork or something. So grill that ish and give me some rice. :P

Rocking Crab is a Cajun style seafood restaurant on the edge of Dallas’s Korea town. They specialize in seasoned boiled crawfish along with fried seafood options. Rocking Crab is an alternative to Boiling Crab/Tasty Tails for people(like me) who live closer the middle of DFW. My Overall Rating — 4 Stars(Atmosphere, Service, Food, Return) Atmosphere — Rocking Crab’s interior is very similar to BC. There are big wooden plank floors, booths, and chairs. Not sure if the staff would be happy if you wrote your name on it though. It’s wasn’t full on an early Friday evening(5:30). Not sure if it’s a good sign or not. Since I have kids, waiting is no fun so it’s a plus for me. 1 Star. Service — Our server was very nice, although the staff did appear to be quite young. While some reviewers pointed out issues with service, ours was very good with the basics. Our order was taken quickly, food came out fast, drinks constantly refilled, & buckets of crawfish shells cleared when full. Our main issue is we ordered 3 extra ears of corn, and something got lost in translation because we ended up with like 6 extra orders(3 per order). I don’t think they understood, nor did they remove it from our bill. ½ Star. Food — Ok, I’ll start with the crawfish. They’re a very nice size & fresh with no «dead» ones in the mix. But they were a bit under seasoned. The Cajun flavors were good, but the ones that soaked longer tasted better. That being said, I still rank Boiling Crab as the best with Tasty Tails a very close second. Rocking crab is in neither’s league, but it by no means is bad. It’s good not great. On the other hand, I really enjoyed their other fried offerings. Their Cajun fries were great. They were slightly battered & seasoned(or heavily seasoned & fried). Either way I was surprised & even liked them more than BC’s sweet potato fries. The fried shrimp & fish were equally good, with a nice, light cornmeal crust that was slightly sweet. 1 ½ Stars. Will I Return? — Yes. Rocking Crab is a great location for me & is cheaper than BC\TT. That being said, the crawfish isn’t as good as the other two but it’s not bad either! The fried seafood items are an excellent bonus, so I will definitely be back. 1 Star. My Unilocal Rating Scale(Sum of all parts): 1 Star — Atmosphere — Is it a cool dive? Perhaps an upscale place? No matter the type, atmosphere plays a big part and I’ll give a star if I like it or thinks it has great charm. 1 Star — Service — You can have a great meal with bad service. But that’s also what can make a five star joint drop to four. It’s important to the dining experience that service is great and on point. 2 Stars — Food — I’ll award up to two stars for the food, since this is the main reason we dine out. Sometimes the extra star is given for value, but it’s really all about the food. 1 Star — Will I come back? — If I know for a fact I’ll return, I’ll give this a star. A place has to make an impression for me to return. Each Category can be given up to 1 star except food(2 stars) because I consider all these categories important to the overall dining experience. I will sum them up to provide my final Unilocal score.
