Great place to grab tacos that’s very close to Parkland and UT Southwestern. Fast and great queso!

This tacos completely suck I don’t understand why people call them tacos It’s not a legit taco I stopped by and I placed my order I understood that it was a little busy so I waited but then my food arrived the tortilla was cold and the meat did not look well cooked. So I spoke with the cashier, she tried to argue with me about it and they replaced my food but this time food wasn’t still good tasting I only ate 2 tacos out of 6 I ordered and I returned the rest. I tried to explain the cook why I didn’t like to but they keep giving me attitude instead of listening to improve. I’d not recommend this place at all.

My first experience here was using the drive-thru service. No line when I pulled up but still took a good 5 – 10 minutes. Decent if you are feeling anti-social or ‘on-the-go’ and courteous staff. This location is on a corner and traffic flow was not a problem when I went during the lunch hour. DISCLAIMER: I knew better than to expect anything ‘authentic’. These are clearly hipster tacos. But hipster tacos can still be delicious(i.e. The City of Austin). CONS: Minus points for tacos being small as has been mentioned. Dallas has a taco size problem in general, especially given the prices. When ordering tacos on corn, double tortillas are expected. Not solely for authenticity but for structural soundness. PROS: The corn tortillas weren’t anything special, but they were fresh. Not the greasy corn tortillas that I seem to find almost everywhere else. So that for me was a plus. I ordered picadillo with avocado and beef fajita tacos. Both were on the dry side but the spice/flavor was good. I asked for green salsa, very mild but again good flavor. I didn’t feel too guilty in terms of calories consumed. No aguas frescas listed on the menu BUT they do sell mexican coke. Also, breakfast tacos are served all day. 3 tacos and a beverage will get you to a tasty $ 10 lunch.

AIN’T NORUSTYBREAKFASTHERE. Why eat breakfast on a plate with a knife and fork, when you can eat it on a grilled tortilla with your hands? These are the questions of life that need to be answered in order to thoroughly enjoy life. Life is simply too exciting to sit down and eat the same monotonous breakfast the same kind of way. Rusty Tacos lies proximally near UT-Southwestern and Parkland Memorial Hospital, the perfect pit stop when you want to avoid the hospital cafeteria. But, how does it stack up against hospital rations… I mean food. The Food: BREAKFASTTACOSALLDAY. HOLDTHEVEGETABLES! You can’t pass by Rusty Tacos without seeing the sign that says that they serve breakfast tacos all day. That message enters the eyes, gets communicated to your brain, and suddenly you feel the excitement surging throughout your body(or you had a double shot of espresso in your morning coffee). Each breakfast taco comes wrapped individually with a flour tortilla that can be substituted with corn tortilla, as well as a salsa. Prepare yourself, each taco is packed to its limit with delicious, protein goodness. Jalapeño Sausage, Egg, and Cheese: THECOUSINOFTHEJALAPENOKOLACHE. Light jalapeño fragrance and from the sausage that spices up the taco and flavors the egg. The cheddar cheese adds a sweet and mild saltiness that further develops the flavor of the egg. The sausage can only be detected by the spices and flavorings that periodically intensify on your tongue. Overall, this taco lacks a strong meaty presence that the other ingredients can build upon(–1 star). Chorizo, Egg, and Cheese: YOUCANPUTDOWNTHESALSA, ITWON’T BENECESSARY. The chorizo adds a bold, spiced, tangy, and salty flavor that gives character to the taco, cheddar, and egg. It can and will saturate your taste buds and the entirety of your mouth and throat. If you love chorizo or strong flavors, this is the taco for you. Overall, the complex flavors and spices of the chorizo leaves a lasting impression on your tongue. Brisket, Egg, and Cheese: LEFTOVERBREAKFASTSURPRISE. Brisket has a mild meaty flavor, similar to steamed or stewed beef. In a way, the brisket is experiencing an identity crisis. After eating and chewing for awhile, it starts to taste just like the nonfried portion of Carnitas(fried pork). By itself, the brisket has a weak beefy flavor and with the taco, it does not really support the flavors of the egg(–1 star). The cheddar cheese once again provides sweet and mild saltiness. At the end of the day, I just keep wondering… where was the salt on this taco? Fajita, Egg, and Cheese: FAJITASCANNEVERGOWRONG. Ladies and gentleman, the grande finale! The fajita meat has a chewy texture that gives this taco a foundation and structure for the egg and cheddar to build themselves upon, before being destroyed by your teeth. The beef fajita meat is peppery with strong, aged, and developed beef flavor. Overall, the fajita dictates the egg and cheddar to create a perfect blend of meaty and breakfast flavors. When you eat this, your tastebuds do not attempt to separate out the flavors of the individual ingredients; because they know that it would disrupt the complex masterpiece brought together by combining these flavors. This breakfast taco is it, I’ll have 10 more please. The Verdict: TEXANFUELFOR A TEXANDAY. You really do have to trust the tacos of a place that literally only sells tacos(not even Taco Bell does that). While the Jalapeño Sausage, Egg, and Cheese; and Brisket, Egg, and Cheese are missing bold meaty flavors, the Chorizo, Egg, and Cheese; and Fajita, Egg, and Cheese achieve great meaty and breakfast flavors that engage your tastebuds and really wake you up to a morning delight. If I came back to Rusty Tacos, my money will be on that Fajita, Egg, and Cheese breakfast taco. Remember, they serve breakfast tacos all day; you can thank me later.

I would not recommend getting it to go. I did the drive though, drove 5 minutes back to the hotel and the taco’s were cold, not room temp, but actually cold. The chips and queso are very tasty, and I’ve had good experience at other locations with tasty tacos, but hard to get past cold tacos.

Good for quick and cheap lunch or dinner. No frills atmosphere. Salsa is excellent. I like the brisket taco.

Came here a few months ago for some tacos– love that you can get breakfast tacos anytime of day! However, not my favorite tacos in Dallas. Good for a quick fix– but when I crave tacos on a Sunday(as always) they are always closed :( Additionally, all the homeless people from the Salvation Army walking around dissuade me wanting to stop here. Not the best location.

Great grilled shrimp tacos. Great queso. Lots of sauce options to spice things up, if you choose. And all for a super reasonable price. Yeah, it’s on a bit of a sketchy corner, but there’s a decent amount of traffic so it’s really no issue.

Good taco ingredients but served lukewarm. My tortilla never saw a griddle it was room temperature– maybe even a bit date I say cold.

This place is right down the street from where I work and on my way home. So it’s really convenient! The place is spacious and clean, the tacos are fresh and affordable and the service people are helpful. Here’s how it works: you walk inside, and up to the counter to order, when your order is ready, you pick it up from the counter. That’s okay with me, I’m taking it home. The only way it could be better is if it had a drive-thru. The downside for some, might be that they only have tacos, no sides, no burritos, no chips… just tacos. It’s almost perfect for me!

Underwhelmed. Went through the drive-through –immediately tore into the food with no delay. My brisket taco and fish taco were both ice cold. The black beans were lukewarm. Although the flavors were good the cold temperature pretty much ruined it. Drive-through experience needs major improvement. First of all my order was not read back to me to ensure accuracy. This is crucial in a drive through as I don’t want to get home and find out I was given the wrong food. I was asked if I wanted mild, medium or hot salsa but was given none in my bag. When I asked for the salsa I was given two tiny cups each containing about 1 to 2 teaspoons(not tablespoons!) of salsa. The Coke I ordered turned out to be diet Coke and it was very flat. I asked to exchange it for a sprite which also turned out to be flat. The drive-through attendant just shrugged and said«I guess it’s the machine». No offer to exchange it for water or give me a refund. Just a blank expression. It was $ 10.02 for the two street tacos, small side of black beans, and small soft drink. $ 10 at Chipotle buys a ton more food –warm food accompanied by real customer service.

First I will start with the positives. The quality of the tacos where about average ingredients and slightly better than Tacobell. That concludes the positives. I spent $ 25 on 9 tacos expecting to have enough to feed 3 people but the tacos where ridiculously tiny! It was barely enough to feed 2 people. One of Torchys taco would equal the size of 3 Rustys tacos. I felt robbed by Rustys and needless to say will never go back!

This is a mediocre taco place. If you’re looking for a quick bite this is a good place to go. I’m only a fan of a few of their tacos. The breakfast fajita taco is probably their best breakfast taco, breakfast tacos are also served all day! The beef fajita is in this taco is so tender and cooked perfectly. The taco also has grilled onions and bell peppers to give it some extra flavor. This is a perfect combo with the eggs! The other tacos that are my favorite is the baja shrimp and the fried chicken jalepeno taco. Great flavor and very filling. Get these!!! One thing I really do not like is their ground beef. It is tasteless and the meat is just gray and does not look appetizing. There is no color in the ground beef. I would not recommend getting any of the ground beef tacos. Their street corn is decent. Not the best but it will do for when you get that corn craving.

Rusty Taco is yet another one of those hip/cool taco places with their own list of unique specialty tacos. On the chill to weird scale, the definitely fall behind both Velvet and Torchy’s Tacos, seeking to provide a more consistent taco experience that doesn’t try to get too weird while still bringing a neat experience. I’ve been a few times now and I attempt to try a new taco or two every time I come. Their prices are pretty reasonable at about $ 2 to $ 2.50 for the average taco(3 is usually a good number, 4 if you’re especially hungry). Their tacos aren’t the largest, but they do have pretty decent diversity in the kinds of tacos. The fried chicken taco comes highly recommended; not all of their topping+meat combos work super well. One pork taco in particular had a cheese that was a bit overpowering, but overall a pretty solid lunch experience.

Rusty Taco is another of the very popular street taco fast food restaurants to open in DFW. I go here for lunch and they do a fair job at getting our order ready fast. A little slow when they are busy. The menu is on the wall the tacos are around 2.50 each depends on chicken or beef. I like the beef fajitas and the BBQ brisket tacos. The BBQ brisket is very good but messy. Two tacos are just the right amount for me they are not real big. They only put meat and cabbage on the tacos or some have onions. I always get chips and salsa with my tacos and they give you a bunch of chips and they will fill you up. Sometimes the chips are over cooked almost burnt so check the chips before you leave. They also have breakfast tacos all day. My service has always been good here no problems. Just a little slow. They do have a nice sit down area plenty of room. We always get the food to go. They have beer and Margaritas to drink but I go on lunch break from work no alcohol for me only cokes. This location is next to a shelter so you may see a bunch of people hanging out front and some ask for money. I do feel safe in the daytime but be watchful you never know. And inside feels safe.

Not too shabby. Ordered a beef fajita taco, a fried fish taco, and some elotes(don’t know if I spelled that right, so maybe I should just write«corn stuff»). Tacos are pretty much no frills. You get your protein then maybe some veggies, such as onions and cilantro, maybe some cabbage if your taco dictates. Other than that and your tortilla(flour or corn), that’s basically it. I guess they resemble a slightly larger street taco. The tacos didn’t wow me, but they weren’t terrible either. It’s not as great as a Fuel City taco, but its no Taco Bell either. The elotes was good– the corn as freshly roasted, whatever sauce they use is quite good, if not a bit rich. I didn’t walk out of there unhappy by any means, it was a solid lunch. Each taco was around $ 2.50 to $ 3 I think and most would probably order 2 – 3 of them for a meal. There’s a decent amount of choices too, from steak to seafood to veggie, so you have plenty to choose from. Place is clean, the staff is friendly. If for some reason you get food poisoning, the hospital is right across the street! The only side effect I got was the urge to take a nap afterwards however. No need to run cuz of the runs here! I’ll have to come back and try their breakfast tacos.

Oh nooo! My heart is breaking because I’m basically the duchess of the Rusty Taco in Plano(last I checked anyway), and this place did not live up to the standard I’ve come to expect of Rusty Tacos. Darn you Plano location for spoiling me. VENUE: Much larger than Plano. There’s a lot of indoor seating. And I will say that I appreciated the chairs here more than Plano. There are stools in Plano where as Dallas has seats with backs. So you can lean back after shoveling tacos into your face and admire(or cringe) at the belly that developed. Atmosphere is Plano is typically super busy, always a line. When I got to the Dallas one(~5:30PM on Friday) there was one other patron. Just one. Kind of nice, the solitude that is. But not the hustle and bustle I would have prepared myself for. FOOD: Everything was standard except my Fried Chicken taco. It was basically cold. Heartbreaking. Thank goodness the salsa was the same though. I would have cried otherwise. SERVICE: We waited at the counter for about 10 minutes before someone came out to ask if we had been helped. The staff was friend otherwise but Plano will always hold a special place in my heart. Hoping that this was fluke for this location because I freaking love Rusty Taco… plano. Lol

Ones who frequently visit Torchy’s Taco will find familiar grounds in Rusty Taco. Sure, it has its flaws, but with a wide assortment of very cheap tacos and chips, Rusty Taco proves itself to be one of the best soft taco/fast food restaurants!(Especially for all the UTSW kids across the street!). So comparing to Torchy’s, I would say Rusty Taco’s interior isn’t as well decorated… But that’s really not what’s important. If you are really turned off by non-glamours décor, maybe you will find this place a little insulting, but I found no issue. Anyways… tacos here range from 2 dollars to a little under 3 dollars(most being 2.5), depending on what you get. I ordered the Roasted Pork and the BBQ Brisket for lunch today, and they were both very delicious. Well done meat, and the addition of hot sauce(KEY!!) resulted in a very quickly eaten meal. The only complaint I have with this place is that the portion size is a little smaller than Torchy’s and the tacos(at least the ones I ordered) weren’t as fancy looking. but im gonna stop comparing this place to Torchy’s now. Next time, I think I will try something different, maybe even push the limits of my spending by ordering some chips!!! I am sure I will find whatever I order satisfying(from what I saw with my friends). Thus, this place receives high ratings for its Medical Student friendly price(aka CHEAP!!), its quick service(within 2 min of ordering), its derrishours food(duh), and its location(super close to med district, literally right across street from UTSW campus)! Whoo~

Please don’t let the area keep you from trying this place. I was a little hesitant when I saw the bust stop full of questionable characters and the pay phones out front, yes pay phones still exist. And there was 4 – 5 homeless folks sitting on the wall in the parking lot… But we went in anyway! We are traveling from Austin to Dallas and were hungry and pressed for time so I couldn’t be picky! So glad we tried it! Restaurant is very clean and comfy! Service was fast and the guys working there were top knotch! You can see them preparing your food :) Bathrooms were clean too! Added bonus for a germaphobe like myself ;) I really enjoyed my taco, see pics :) and if you ask for Hot salsa, be prepared! It’s hot!!! I loved it! I am hoping we can stop back for lunch on the way home back to Austin! This place reminds me of a Torchys!(If you’re from Austin) My mouth is still burning! :)
