Was brought here by a friend who came last week and really enjoyed the food. I wasn’t in the mood for a full on meal and was feeling the classic sweet and salty combo of fries dipped in a milkshake. I ordered the truffle fries and a chocolate milkshake. Texture of the fries was on point, but the flavor was quite overwhelming. Truffle oil is definitely used as a crutch in several of their dishes. Another friend ordered mac and cheese and also had a difficult time finishing it because of the truffle oil. Also, it’s not mentioned on the menu that the mac and cheese contains truffle oil. $ 4.50 is not worth it for a milkshake here. I was sorely disappointed. The chocolate flavor was lacking and the texture not what I expected. Rather grainy. This might be a minor detail, but milkshakes that cost this much are usually aesthetically pleasing while this one was served in a disposable cup with no whipped cream or other toppings. The others who got hot dogs seemed generally pleased with their meal. One complaint noted amongst the group was that they had expected the hot dogs to be larger for the price paid. Would give the food itself 3 stars, but customer service was phenomenal enough to add another star. They messed up one of my friend’s order and before we left they gave us a complimentary banana foster bread pudding. Well decorated place to come and have an american style(I don’t understand why they are classified as a German restaurant on Unilocal; I didn’t see anything German about their menu offerings) hot dog, but would hold back on ordering anything with truffle oil(unless you really just enjoy it THAT much) or a milkshake.

As a vegan and visiting a new city my options are for the most part very limited. I needed something filling and delicious before heading back home. I ordered the beastless burger. Vegan burger on a pretzel bun. AWESOME topping selection for this burger Troy. Really it was great. The French fries… I love the seasoning. Super delish! The chips are seasoned the same way too. It’s all in your potato preference. The atmosphere is a mixture of hipster diner and really friendly. They do serve beer as well! Ad have gluten free buns! They serve the hot dogs and burgers«a la carte». And FOR A REASON! I was so stuffed after the burger that I looked at my fries and forced my stomach to eat everything because it was so yummy. It doesn’t seem like a problem but I paid for fries that I was almost too full to enjoy and it made me realize my eyes are bigger than my stomach.(Per usual) For my burger, fries and a fountain drink my bill was $ 16.18. Whoa. That’s almost $ 20. When I found this place on Unilocal I specified that I wanted to see places that were $ 10 and under. Again, they serve everything by itself because it’s necessary too. But golly $ 2.45 for a «large» drink(which is practically a medium) is a bit much. Maybe $ 1.45 is more realistic. The burger was so tasty but it literally fell apart after the first bite. They give you silverware. Use it. The two reasons I didn’t give Samson’s 5 stars is the price range for one person, is high. And the burger fell apart and I had to put it back together to enjoy it as a burger. Other than that, they have a ton of options. Vegan, Vegetarian and for Meat lovers. Give it a try!

Sampsons has without a doubt the best hot dogs and toppings west of the Mississippi. It was my favorite indulgence when I live in Dallas.

We visited on12/4/15. I am at a complete loss how previous reviewers gave such glowing reviews. The restaurant is in dire need of a deep clean. The cushions are filthy. Being that it was our first visit, there was no assistance whatsoever. The menu board is overwhelming and confusing. Even when we inquired about particular items, the employee just read from the board(which we were capable of doing). They were NOT busy but our uncomplicated hot dog order took twenty minutes. If only the food was worth the wait; quite the contrary. Obviously, with all of the exceptional restaurants/take out establishments in the vicinity-we will never repeat this big, big, mistake.

I came here on a gamble.. it’s a little pricey and maybe worth a shot if you really love hotdogs … a tried a few different varieties but I really liked the smokehouse … I really liked the creativity with everything but the staff was just sooooooo clueless to everything it was very hard to order anything.. it’s a small shop and I liked the atmosphere.. nice and clean … I also tried the bananas foster bread pudding which was really good but very sweet All and all try it for yourself and see what you think … personally I might come back

Gourmet may be a stretch but hey! Hot dogs are hot dogs I guess. It was not bad in the slightest. The food was good. Some pretty bad customer service… Which is what really makes a place undesirable.

Samson’s is a nice little spot located in a small strip shopping area off of Oak Lawn. If you don’t keep an eye out, it’s real easy to pass by. Even though it’s a small eatery, they make the most out of what space they have. There is a very nice, cozy patio in the front. There are a couple of tables and a few chairs lined up along the rail-bar area. Once you step inside, there are a few more tables as well, but the dining area is pretty tight and I imagine that it would be hard to find a seat during their peak hours. The menu has a lot of vegan options… a lot more than I expected going in. They have vegan hot dogs, burgers, mac and cheese, chili, etc. Plenty of food for both vegans and meat eaters! I ordered the veginator hot dog along with some fries. The texture of their veggie dogs was weird… not bad, but different. I’m used to the processed veggie dogs found in grocery stores, I think these hot dogs were homemade. The flavors were awesome, and they complimented each other very well! The spicy flavors of the chili and jalapenos, combined with the hot dog and the fresh bun perfectly! The fries were hot and fresh. They were seasoned with something… I couldn’t really make out what it was… maybe paprika? Cinnamon? I don’t know… I’m not that good with figuring out spices blindly, but it made the fries different. They were good! I’m definitely going to return to Samson’s. The location is great for me, plus they had so many options, I have to try some more! Try it out!

I was hesitant about trying the food after reading the reviews and about having the food delivered for a birthday party so I went in and picked it up. There was a lady there that helped me through my first order! She was phenomenal! She excels at customer service! She took my order and made the food. She threw in things for us to try at no cost!!! The food was fresh, hot and well packaged! It’s a bit pricey and took a bit long but when you get great service it is worth the wait! My party was a huge success because of the food!!! Thank you Samson’s! I really wish a few things… Veginator wasn’t fried and the teenie weenies were available in all the specialty options for $ 5. Vegan frito pie was huge hit and barely made it through the first hour of the party! Everyone said the food was fantastic!

Note: This review in on the vegan options First off, I’d like to let these guys know how much I greatly appreciate their vegan option menu. It’s awesome to find new vegan friendly spots. Place is small and clean. Friendly staff. The cashier could be more knowledgeable on what they sell so far as ingredients, pricing and WiFi password. Perhaps she was new. Totally stoked to see they had vegan Mac and cheese, so I ordered it with the veginator dog. Again, I really appreciate the vegan options, but this meal was not that great. In fact, it was more on the meh, I could just get the store bought kind and it would taste better. This was definitely 9″ of disappointment,(only ate a couple of bites). The wiener was partially burnt, kinda dry and flavorless. The chickpeas were super dry and almost crunchy. Had a hint of flavor that would have been good, had it been stronger. Honestly the bun, cheese, and jalapeños were the only good parts. Sadly the Mac and cheese that I was soo excited to try out, was the worst looking bowl of orangy goop drowned in oil. I still tasted it. Wasn’t bad in flavor, but that oil tho… The pasta and cheese just looked like chewed up bubble gum. Sigh I really wanted this to be great. I seriously hope it gets better. For $ 14, I need it to get better, way better. Sorry guys. I feel like you have the right vision, but just need to vamp things up. Until next time, I wish you the best of luck dawgs.

I WANT to like them. I appreciate them and I enjoyed the service but my order was wrong, my drink was missing, and for some weird reason my plastic silverware was shrunken and melted. Like, my spoon was doing a 180. It was ok… and I feel like they have potential but I honestly don’t think it’s worth my money until then.

Cool Oak Lawn/Uptown hot dog restaurant. They’re now serving burgers and stuffed burgers, too. I tried their Veginator — the vegan dog with vegan chili, quinoa & lentil salad, onions, vegan cheese, and smoked pickled jalapenos and their side of vegan mac and cheese! DELICIOUS. My brother loved his hot dog as well and I know he’s gone back without me! You can order off the menu or make your own dog, and they’ve got really good toppings! They also have beer on tap, and it’s just a pretty great place! The owner served us, and he was really cool — explaining about the toppings! Cool place!

Agh! $ 36 for two hotdogs and a beer?! Kudos for trying to make your own vegan hotdogs, but yuck! I was so stoked about the prospect of vegan hot dogs within walking distance of my apt, but it was crusty and gross. I also had a side of mashed potatoes and it tasted like Windex. Service was slow too:(

This place has very polarizing reviews, and I understand why. I have mixed feelings myself. Pros: They make their own vegetarian(tofu based) hot dogs, and they’re twice the size of your average hot dog. They offer gluten free buns. I’ve noticed a lot of complaints about the buns, but I found them to be just fine. Not dry and crumbly as a lot of gluten free breads tend to be. This place has a lot of vegetarian and vegan stuff on their menu, period. Right down to seasoned quinoa as a topping. Open air, covered patio seating in addition to indoor dining. Casual vibe with a retro 50s feel. Plus the day I came in it was nothing but 50s/60s music playing. Cons: The food took forever to arrive. I don’t mind waiting if the quality is worth it, but the vegan cheese on my hot dog was overcooked to the point of being crusty, and the flavor of the veggie dog itself was a bit bland. The vegan mashed potatoes I had were bad. Not sure what was going on there, but whatever was in them had a strong chemical like flavor. I felt like I was eating windex. My waiter brought a side dish I didn’t order. When I pointed this out, he responded by saying he could bring over ‘a small scoop’ of the one I wanted. Note that he didn’t own up to his error by taking the unwanted item back and replacing it with what I wanted. He wanted me to keep the unwanted item! As it turned out, he didn’t charge for the unwanted item to begin with, it was brought out by mistake, so no $ lost on my part. However I never got that side I wanted… This place charges for toppings, and bottled drinks seem a bit steep. So be prepared to spend around $ 12 – 15.00 for a meal. Perhaps the non vegan/vegetarian items are better? While it means a lot to me that they’re trying to accomodate special dietary needs, they have a ways to go before they get the formula just right, imo. I hope the food and service quality improves because businesses with good intentions deserve to succeed, and we need more health conscious restaurants in Dallas.

I love this place. I always get the veginator hot dog and it is so so good and packed with flavor. It has vegan cheese in it too! I mean, what does that even mean? One downside is that sometimes the hot dogs aren’t enough to make you full, so I might suggest getting a side of fries. I’ve had their veggie wrap too and that was so delicious. It’s pretty big so you may have leftovers. The owner is super nice and they are always there to explain to you how everything works and what might taste good with what.

Build your own: beer brat, sauerkraut, Gorgonzola & mustard, on a poppy seed bun, sooo good! Halal beef stuffed burger, amaze. Organic soda fountain, beer on tap, homemade chips. The wait staff was super friendly and helpful.

My sister had ordered the food truck to come to her house for her son’s birthday party. She and her husband had been raving about the joint for months, so I was excited to try the dogs at the party. They were not kidding, this place was awesome!(Not as good as the hot dog places in LA, but great for Dallas!) I tried just about every dog on the menu and all were great; not phenomenal — dog is a little soft and not sure I fully like what they put in their veggie dogs, but fresh ingredients and great concoctions. They had some southwestern and asian flavored dogs as well and both were good. Quinoa salad, chile, fries, and mac n cheese were great as well. Lots to choose from and everything is quite good! Just not the best I’ve had ever, but maybe the best in Dallas.

3 ½ stars — My 11 year old loves hot dogs — naturally; so we came for some specialty dogs! Coming in at first I was a bit reluctant because the place was completely empty, albeit it was 5PM — definitely dinner time for most. It was nice to be greeted right away, and we were also questioned if it was our first visit there. Once they knew it was our first time they were very helpful in guiding us on our options for ordering and they even offered us samples on all the toppings. They have different kinds of chili: chipotle, vegan and turkey. There assortments of garnishments included mashed potatoes(surprisingly creamy and delicious!!), regular Mac n cheese and vegan Mac n cheese, grilled onions, and so many more! You can even choose from regular hot dog buns, pretzel buns or a wheat wrap. Honestly, every bit of it was delicious but my only drawback were a couple of things: firstly, I ordered a turkey dog on a wheat wrap which was served on a long stainless platter and a paper(for appearance and cleanliness) that was between my wrap and the platter — as hard as my rap was to cut into, it also cut into the paper so I felt as though I was eating both. They have what looks like a microwave but noted«not a microwave», which I believe really made the wrap almost to rubbery to eat. A part of me wishes I would’ve picked the bun so that I wouldn’t have had to wrestle with the wrap. We also ordered fries with chili which never came out with our meals because they forgot so they had to put it in the bag for us to go. In their defense the fries were actually very good, I only wish I could have enjoyed it with my rubbery wrapped dog. I will definitely gives this place another opportunity.

Located in a strip center with a Gay Bar called Pekers. The parking lot is small, crowded and tight. I gotta be honest and tell ya, I expected a whole lot more. Their 9″ weenie was skinny and disappointing. I got the Samson Dog, which is beef and pork blend. I assumed toppings were free. Nope, not here. $ 2.75 additional charge for three or more toppings! Blow me. I added house kraut(has bacon in it), onions, cheese, and, mustard. I wasn’t offered a selection of bun, so I got what it came with. There are unspoken rules with hamburgers and hot dogs. One of those is the meat needs to be outstanding, not the bread. The bun to dog ratio was way off, giving preference to the bun. Instead of sinking the weenie and toppings into the bottom of the bun and building up, they placed everything towards the top. One bite, and, shit fell everywhere. The cheese was kinda scary. It looked like it could just get up and run off on its own. There was way too much bread with this dog. It was too dry and made the whole experience unpleasant. The weenie itself was tasty, but, too damned skinny. I thought I was at Sonic for a moment. I’m no aficionado on hot dogs, but, this one was way off. They need to focus more on the meat and presentation. Tone down the bread a bit. It’s overkill. And for Christ’s sake, stop charging for simple toppings! Two stars because they didn’t butterfly me wiener!
