This place is no longer Sharaku and does not serve the same things as it use to. It is now a high end sushi place owned by the same owner but he decided to not let the public know about it. I came hungry, thinking that I was gonna be at sharaku and to eat their ramen but was disappointed by the terrible«high end» sushi. Don’t go to this place thinking that it is what you see on this Unilocal page because it definitely isn’t.

Cute little place in Uptown, but the service was a little strange. Even though we were sitting at the bar, the food and the drinks were all coming from their sushi restaurant next door. My wine was really refreshing and the edamame was good too.

After a 12 hour roadtrip to Dallas, this was our first stop. Our friend is a regular here so we let her do the ordering. We had some sushi, seaweed salad, miso soup… all good but not mind blowing. She ordered all this stuff that came on skewers… kobe beef, peppers, chicken skin, chicken hearts and it was all pretty good. I’ve never been to a restaurant like this. Maybe I was too tired to really enjoy it. I wish we had the shabu!

They only serve ramen on fridays during lunchtime. I’ve tried both the Shoyu and Miso Ramen. I think I prefer the Miso Ramen. The broth had a lot of depth compared to all those other ramen places in dallas. Instead of pork belly, they put in a good sized pork rib that was so tender that it fell off the bone with ease. The noodles were cooked well. It had seawead, spinach, and really thinly sliced dried chili peppers as garnish, which really went well with the ramen. I wish there was a bit more in there. I really liked the ramen but for $ 14, they could at least add a soft boiled egg or some other toppings. My friend got the sashimi ramen… which was basically just the ramen noodles dipped in the broth and added seafood on top. NOT worth it.

I came for shabu-shabu, and I ate shabu-shabu. I had never had an experience with japanese Shabu-shabu before my meal at Sharaku, but if they are all this good, I understand what the fuss is about. Pork, Beef, Vegetable, doesn’t matter. The broth was the star. Also, try the kushiyaki. You won’t be disappointed.

Simply amazing kushiyaki! I love this space, intimate and not uncomfortably crowded, like other restaurants on McKinney. The staff is always on top of everything.

Sharaku Sake Lounge is now open for Lunch from 11:30AM — 2:00PM on Friday’s only with a special noodle and appetizer menu(see the posted menu picture). Yesterday was their first time open for lunch. I had the miso ramen and a side order of Japanese sausages. The miso ramen was well flavored and I especially liked the tender bone-in pork rib meat in it. Hontou ni oishii katta!

I was recently in Dallas visiting family. My sister and I wanted to get our yakitori on one evening and decided to branch out from our usual Teppo. We were intrigued by the sake flights. Let’s break this down here. The good: The sake menu is full of awesome. We totally dug the variety we got on our flights, and then we had a carafe of the almighty Demon Slayer. Life was good. We got a mix of yakitori and nigiri and it was all very good. The chicken skin was the highlight. Loved the smokey flavor of all the yakitori. All the nigiri was very fresh. The not-so-good: The service was just not good. The server said she was new, so we were understanding. However, she forgot some of our items and other things came out very slow. They were out of a lot of things on the menu, and it often took awhile before this got back to us. Overall: We very much enjoyed ourselves here, but I feel like there are better options for this sort of thing in the area. But those places don’t have sake flights, so we might be back here.

I absolutely love this place. You get the best of both worlds, the sushi from yutake and the grilled meats cooked in the lounge. I usually come here once a month and eat at the bar. One of my favorites in Dallas.

Yay for an awesome new drink place! We passed our wait time at Yutaka(the sushi joint two doors down) here this weekend, and the time flew by. We’re fairly new to sake, and the bartender was very good at recommending different types for our flights. Each flight was $ 12 to try 3 different types of sake, which I thought was pretty reasonable, and it was perfect for those who don’t know a ton about sake. Once our flights were served, he took the time to explain each sake and what notes we should pay attention to in each. All were easy to drink and very enjoyable. I definitely see us returning for drinks when we’re looking for a low key, intimate atmosphere. This is a great date place, as it lends itself a bit more to smaller groups.

Horrible is really all I can say. Hate to have this opinion after the first visit. Little Katana= better service, fresh fish and a decent sized roll. Not overly done, not under done. Sharaku has a nice atmosphere thats about it. Rather spend my time and my money at Oishii or Little Katana.

Love this place minus the service! It’s right next to Yutaka — same owner and just as yummy! Service was not great but the food made up for it. You can order the same sushi /rolls from Yutaka plus the awesome yakitori :)

I’m from Austin so I was expecting to be blown away by the sushi restaurants in a big city like Dallas but I was not impressed at all. First off, I came here for a friend’s birthday party and I had actually called beforehand and requested that they have two bottles of champagne waiting for us at the table but when we got there the table was empty. They didn’t even offer to bring it out as we were waiting around for other members of our party to arrive. I consider that bad service. As far as the food goes, the sushi was good but they don’t even make it in house and get it next door so it doesn’t really count. Also, they were very limited with what they had available and they had no idea what was in the specialty rolls. I guess the cooked food was decent but nothing to rave about. Oh yeah, they also overcharged us by $ 50. Tricky tricky.

This place is a hidden treasure in Dallas. While everyone’s crowding to get into Yutaka next door, you can usually get a seat at Sharaku– and there is some overlap between the menus(flounder chips!). But generally the menu’s made up of grilled and fried skewer options. And everything’s on a stick, the highest form of food delivery. While it’s not a classy, elegant meal like Yutaka, the quality of the food is still spectacular and it won’t bust your wallet in the same way.

I’ve been to place a couple of times. Its next to it’s sister place, a sushi bar. I come here for the traditional izakaya, japanese pub. Its good for light drinking and snacking on some tradtional Kushiyaki. The place is small with good wait staff. I ordered the hotpot, sake flight, more sake(buzzed and food coma at this point), some grilled chicken heart, pork belly, peppers, kobe beef and other delicious items on the menu. This place can get you full, but you can always hop to the suchi next door, and come here for late night drinking with friends. This place is way better then Teppo, and I worked at Teppo before. This place is less uptight and more lay-back and comfortable. I will come back to try all off the dishes, its a must for a foodie like me. =)

Japanese tapas is the best description that I can give you; small interesting Japanese dishes cooked in the grill right in front of you. Those tapas would go perfectly with sake; bite size small dishes to smooth out the bitter after taste of sake. hmmm hmmm The service was excellent and the ambiance was just so cozy and pretty. If you want a quiet drinking time with a small group of friends, this is the place to go. I cannot believe I have never visited this place till now when I lived next door for 1.5 years. What a shame.

We dropped in here waiting for a table at Yutaka but ended up enjoying our experience more than the actual dinner! They serve skewers of all the funky animal parts like heart, gizzards, skin, yum! Sounds disgusting but each juicy, greasy little morsel of goodness was perfectly cooked over the hot coals. I love the ancient looking Japanese man fanning the flame of the coals, getting each crispy little bite tender and delicious. We had multiple beers and a good sampling of the skewers and only spent $ 25/person. Not bad at all! The space is dark and pretty. The corner table in the front has a glass floor with a zen sand garden underneath, very neat. There is a random cramped waiting area upstairs that you can tell was a converted office that looks over the dining area. This place is great for a pre-meal warm up or just a different experience.

I’ve been searching for a good izakaya(Japanese pub) here in DFW and I believe I have found it. Most of the items I ate were mainly kushiyaki(grilled skewered items) carefully prepared over a bed of coals. Nothing better than that smokey charcoal flavor infused into every dish. In fact, the next time I want to sit in front of the grilling area to watch the old master do his magic. In comparision to other places, I found the food was even better than my visit to Teppo a few weeks ago! The flavor and juiciness of the skewers were spot on and it reminded me of an izakaya I visited in Tokyo. There are also kushiage(deep fried skewered items), but since I love charcoal, I just sticked to grilled foods. The atmosphere is very laid back and if you come around 6pm, it will be pretty empty. If you find that awkward, come by around 7pm-730pm. The layout of the place is cozy and has a trendy minimalist design. Not very authentic compared to the ones in Japan, but it works. Definitely coming back when I want a beer and some good skewers. Here are a list of items I recommend you try: Chicken Meatball Beef Tongue Kurobuta Pork Classic Scallop Wrapped With Bacon Shiitake Mushroom Chicken Chop Tatsuta Age Asian Spinach With Black Sesame Sauce Enjoy!

Loyalties to favorite sushi chefs especially in Dallas are a tough bond that run deep so when I heard that Yutaka was opening up a sake lounge two doors down from his sushi joint I knew I had to perform my duty and visit his new lounge. Indeed, the entrepreneurial Yutaka realized as his sushi restaurant gained notoriety that patrons were piling up at the door waiting for a seat. So why not open up a sushi lounge where customers can wait while sipping on sake? Genius. Whether Sharaku ends up being a holding tank before you hit Yutaka or it’s a destination in itself, it’s a zen like temple that’s a welcome get away from the raucous bar scene typical of Greenville and McKinney Ave. The interior is simply decorated and some of the decorative elements don’t quite all work together, but it’s a quiet, cool space where you can stop in for sake and quiet conversation. This is not the place to hit with your ragtag dozen of former frat brothers reliving pub crawls from years past. Perfect for dates or catching up over drinks with a small group(no more than 4) of friends. The sake collection, while not as extensive as some sake lounges, does do justice by offering up noted brands. Kudos for offering up glasses of Otokoyama and Suishin. For the uninitiated, Sharaku serves up sake flights so you can sip and sample your way through. They also offer sake cocktails like the sake mojito as well as glasses of wines if your palate leans more towards Western libations. The waitstaff is extremely capable and very friendly. Yutaka drops in from time to time to mix up drinks or for a refill of his favorite wine. Sharaku reminds me a lot of some sake lounges in NYC. Hit this place up before this too becomes a must see destination on the Dallas restaurant and lounge scene.

This place is just down the street from(and owned by) Yutaka, and they’ll send you here while you wait for a table, taking your phone number so that they can call you when your table is ready(none of those high-tech buzzer things). They’ll hold your table for you while you finish your sake if they call too soon, although I would have liked to just taken my wine with me the moment they called. Oh, well. I’m not a sake person, but the glass of wine(they offer mostly South American) I had was very nice. The atmosphere is pleasant, but it’s not a good place to hang with a group of friends — a little too«chill» and quiet inside. Very much a date spot. I think they had a limited menu as well, mostly appetizers(edamame, etc.).
