Their bloody Mary bar on Saturdays and Sundays is the best deal in uptown($ 5), the food is very good, and great atmosphere, always packed! The wait staff is attentive, but doesn’t hover.

Well, after 6 months we decided to give this place another try. We got seated pretty quickly but waited easily 15 mins before being greeted by our server despite being the closest table to the hostess. The last time I visited, one of my complaints had been how weak the iced tea was… so should I have been surprised that the coffee was as weak as Steve Rogers before he became Captain America? The high point of the visit was the scrambled eggs on my husband’s plate of chicken and waffles. Sooo good. I enjoyed the crepes I ordered(though way too indulgent to get again), those eggs were good. Disappointed in wait times and that, even after I sent the coffee back, it was still weak, I guess this was a better visit than the last three.

This was my first time, atmosphere seemed cool. I ate alone at the bar because I’m here on business. The bartenders were both a little snooty though. No «hey how are ya!!!», when you sit down or anything like that. No eye contact. The fish tacos were good but the ELOTE was out of this world. I’ve never had it before so idk if it’s always that amazing but, wow it was beyond delicious. If you want to try the elote, GO! But don’t expect smiles or good service unless you’re a personal-friend of the blonde bartender. She was the only one who got good service!

Great place especially if you live in the neighborhood. Good atmosphere, good food and great staff. Chicken strips are the best in town! Jude at the bar is awesome and always takes care of his customers.

Awesome brunch! Strong drinks, good food and great service. Definitely try to sit on the patio if it’s pretty outside.

My family and friends visited S/A for a 3 person graduation dinner. I fell in love with the venue and the scenery. I didn’t think it wouldn’t be kid friendly but the staff was extremely accommodating for my toddler and 8 month old. They continued to check on us and our boys and was very responsive to our large party of 25. The food was AMAZING. I will definitely go back with my husband. It’ll be a nice date night.

Great outdoor dining(which we availed ourselves to tonight), nice indoor options as well. Half-off wine on Wednesday was great for our party of six. The blackened fish served as tacos instead of the sandwich was fantastic. We had the Meaty, Tony, and Sausage and Arugula pizzas — I highly recommend all three — flavorful and cooked properly.

We were visiting the area and drove by this restaurant during the day… it looked really interesting so we decided to come back at dinner time to give it a try. We enjoyed the half-priced wine they sell on Wednesdays and as a result, got appetizers, entrees and 2 bottles of wine for only $ 90! What a GREAT deal! Their menu is unique and eclectic. Their food is great. Service is a team approach and they do a good job keeping up with the tables, no matter how busy they get. The filet mignon was perfect and a great deal! Jerk chicken was outstanding! The restaurant is in a neighborhood, like a mixed-use area, not far from McKinney, where all the restaurants are located, so take a walk one block down and enjoy this one too!

Our local restaurant on the corner. They serve a great breakfast. I’ve had lunch and dinner outside a few times and always enjoyed coming here.

If I could give this place more than five stars I would. Even though we sat waiting for awhile for our waitress because it was on a Thursday night during happy hour(pretty packed) it was well worth the wait. Our waitress Rose was super amazing, beyond sweet, kept the awesome mules flowing!!! Then to top it all off the manager came to check on us; she is flipping hilarious and a genius! Ah Sarah thank you for the great laughs and tips(she should really get promoted to general manager). The food was fantastic(I had the BYO Pizza and my friend had the turkey burger) the atmosphere was super chill. You’re guaranteed to have a grand time. The day could start off bad and stressful after work or whatever but once you go to State and Allen you’re going to end the night in a great mood. :) I would recommend to everyone.

I came here for brunch, and in my opinion, the only things really going for this place are the bloody mary bar and the cheap mimosas. Otherwise, the food itself was so underwhelming. I don’t think anyone was really happy with their food. I got the poach and prosciutto which are two things I love but just wasn’t that satisfying to have here. The English muffin that came with the dish was dry and bland, the asparagus was also bland, the potato hash or whatever it was was too much, hard to eat, and was pretty much pointless to have on the dish. Go early for brunch because we had to wait for a while. I probably wouldn’t come back to lunch but I would be willing to try their main menu which seems more promising.

My friends and I had just finish a race and were looking for a nice place to eat. Many places do not open until 11am, but luckily noticed that this place opened at 10am. And, we were so thankful we ended up here! Food in here was delicious and prices were decent given that is uptown. Brunch drinks were most definitely affordable thou and service was great! We will be returning here.

**COMEEARLYFORBRUNCH!** It’s so worth it. Even by 11am there was still outdoor seating available on a bright and sunny day — though that’ll probably change as spring and summer come full swing. The brunch is delicious and actually reasonably priced for uptown’s standards. I had the chicken and waffles, which also came with two eggs. I only wish the piece of fried chicken was slightly larger! But even though the dish doesn’t come with a gravy sauce for the chicken, you don’t really miss it because the chicken is tasty and well-seasoned.(Yay for unnecessary calories!) I was full and really content by the end. My boyfriend had the S&A breakfast and was really impressed as well! They serve you thick slices of bacon, not the dinky thin shriveled kind. The potato hash was also on point. And the dish was under $ 9! Pinch me. Take my advice and just come here early to avoid the wait and get a great seat for a definite 5 star experience. It really makes a difference when you’re seated and not hangry from waiting an hour or more. :-)

I’ve been to State & Allen twice for brunch and have yet to be disappointed. The mimosas, the food, the service… the mimosas :) The first time we came with a large group and were quickly accommodated. Whether it was pushing tables together or adding extra chairs, the staff was ready and willing to help out where needed. The second time was with a smaller group and my mimosa glass rarely went unfilled. I’ve tried the chicken and waffle which was yummy but my personal favorite is the crab cakes and eggs. The crab cakes are not huge by any means, but where they lack in size they totally make up in flavor. I LOVE crab cakes and these are easily on par with the fancy seafood restaurants. There is also a pretty cool DIY bloody mary bar for only $ 5, which I’m sure I would partake in if I fancied bloody marys. One day. Last but not least, the patio is gorgeous and fun. Perfect for a spring day.

State & Allen, I love you. You had me at $ 2.50 mimosas. I won’t beat around the bush and court you for several months before I reveal my true feelings… this is real and I cannot contain myself. While visiting Dallas a few weeks ago, I mentioned wanting chicken and waffles for brunch and my friend suggested State & Allen. We made reservations for 10:30am and arrived to nice patio table. Our server was friendly and suggested ordering the mimosas by the glass, as it was a better deal than carafes. The bartenders were VERY generous with champagne and light on the OJ(score). I stuck to my guns and ordered the chicken and waffles, despite being tempted to switch each time plates passed by the table. I was highly satisfied with my selection and wished I had more capacity in my stomach to finish the waffle, but I was unable to. Dallas has so many interesting eateries, but State & Allen is in a league of its own. I’m looking forward to visiting again so I can re-kindled my love affair with this beloved establishment.

S&A is still one of our classic go-tos, for good reason! Who wouldn’t love ½ price pizza Mondays, ½ price craft draft Tuesdays, and ½ price wine Wednesdays?! I prefer it for dinner, rather than brunch — but the Bloody Mary Bar IS fun and worth doing.(Ummm yeah… of course, I’d like bacon and weenies in my blood mary!) We like sitting in the bar area — it’s nice and lively and has lots of TVs — or on the patio. The big remodel they did a year or so back was genius. The inside is very inviting, and it has that great outdoor but indoor feel when they raise the garage door walls on a nice day. The patio is very pup-friendly, and they’ll bring a big bowl of water to keep your fur babies hydrated. Favorite entrees include the Ahi Tuna Salad, Mediterranean Salad w/Chicken, Buffalo Chicken Sandwich(you can also get it grilled), and the Love Love Bowls, but I don’t think you can go wrong with anything on the menu! If you saved room(even just a tiny bit) for dessert, get the flourless chocolate cake… delish!

Came through for a quick drink– so didn’t try the menu. Although several of the dishes looked appealing. It was a Saturday so no specials are going on, we ordered a simple gin+tonic and a Moscow mule. My friend felt that her G+T was all Gin– and had a hard time finishing it– but that’s on her. I didn’t try it and she didn’t offer to have it remade so no harm no foul. My mule was«ok” — not amazing but got the job done. It can get pretty loud in there it seems, as there was a pretty rowdy party.

Pretty consistently good food and wine here. The wild mushroom and sausage and arugula pizza are my favorites here. Go on Wednesday cause it’s half price wine by the bottle!

Came here new years eve without reservations and the front desk was nice enough to sit us! Kudos to them! We had the $ 50 meal for two special they where having for the evening. I had the the Crawfish Bisque, which was very tasty. I added a bit of Tabasco for an extra kick and it made it perfect. I elected to have the Prime Rib as an entrée and it was delicious. It was crusted and perfectly cooked. Cherry on top? $ 3MOSCOWMULES! Great neighborhood place for food and drinks!

The State & Allen Kitchen + Bar has a really great brunch! My friend and I came here on a sunny Sunday afternoon, and the place was hopping. In fact we were told that there would be a 30 minute wait… unless we wanted to sit outside. Fortunately, it was a gorgeous day, and we actually preferred the patio. So just a moment later we were sipping our mimosas(only $ 2.50 per glass) and perusing the menu. The place was so busy that our waiter was clearly in a rush, but he never made us feel ignored or rushed ourselves. He was very attentive and checked in on us often. For our entrees, I ordered the Mediterranean Egg White Scramble and my friend had The Monterey. My meal was delicious! Egg whites scrambled with artichoke hearts, tomatoes, olives, and spinach, and sprinkled with a little feta cheese. Served with simple dry white toast and two veggie sausage patties, it was a tasty and filling brunch. My friend also enjoyed The Monterey: two eggs(in her case, egg whites), dry white toast, bacon and half an avocado smothered in salsa. All of the food was pretty darn good. Both of us were very happy with our meals and our overall experience. Sitting on the patio in the sunshine, getting in some quality Uptown people-watching and enjoying mimosas and quality brunch food was very relaxing. It was my first time at State & Allen since their remodel, and I have to say, the improvements(both to the venue and to the menu) are impressive. I am definitely a fan.

Highlights: — Great happy hour specials — Great food for the price(and considering it’s a bar) — Cozy inside with an open patio Came here for happy hour on a random Monday to find their half off pizza special. The Kitchen+bar is pretty open to the outdoors so we were fortunate enough to come when the weather was nice out. The drink specials were pretty great. $ 3 wells, wines and beers(their wells I believe come from local distilleries which is a nice touch). The pizzas were half off and extremely reasonable(up to about $ 13 full price). I had a meaty meat pizza which, as the name suggests, came with plenty of meat. It took about 7⁄8 slices to hit a happy full(great value!) and was tastier than I expected for pub grub. Definitely a top pick for a happy hour stop, especially on Monday’s if you’re hungry. I’d need to look up the rest of their specials but they looked pretty good as well!

WOWWOWWOW! I am so glad that I decided to stop by and sit outside yesterday on their amazing patio. My intention was just to sit down and enjoy a drink with the nice weather but I saw all the amazing food coming out to delighted customers and had to order something for myself. Not only has State & Allen Kitchen + Bar transformed from a corner restaurant to a first class dining establishment, the staff is probably the friendliest I’ve found in town and the food is absolutely excellent. I love that they have a wrap around patio that is nestled in the quaint State & Thomas neighborhood of Dallas and there are several tables so there is room for everyone. When the weather is nice, they open up the walls so that the fresh air comes through, too. I ordered their Silver Bowl salad and it quickly moved to the top of my «favorite salads» list. The ingredients were so fresh, so flavorful and I practically licked the bowl clean. The few cocktails I tried were all refreshing and delicious and the price point on everything was spot on. I literally can not wait to go back!

What an amazing place to hang out and have a drink or a few bites on a beautiful sunny day. Have their window openings on the perimeter roll like a garage door unloading the full beautiful outdoors to come right indoors. Drinks are a little high if you’re not going on happy hour and perhaps a little weak for what you pay. Food is always on par and they even provide the food for next doors neighbor — Parliament! They also have daily food and drink specials. I will definitely come back and check out their happy hour specials!
