I was in the area… Driving down the street deciding where to stop, the name caught my attention. Ordered 10 tacos de pastor &10 de barbacoa to go. The tacos were dry & very small could eat in one bite lol. No wonder they were less than $ 1 each. They need to rethink calling the place something else. I give it 1 star for the friendly staff/service.

Stopped for lunch. Enchiladas verdes were very good. Partner got Caldo de res with homemade tortillas & seemed to enjoy it.

As the tagline under its name suggests, Tacon Madre serves some good old homestyle Mexican food. It is a decent sized restaurant a little East of Royal Ln DART station. The interior is very basic with cafeteria style seating and there is also a bar seating and serves favorite alcoholic drinks you fancy in Mexican restaurant with HH specials. There are few TVs with all sorts of sports and tele soaps being played on it. The Indian owner was helpful and accommodating and other staffs were nice too. The à la carte tacos are pretty cheap, like a buck a piece. Combo meals of various sorts are available. I got the three tacos plate with two al pastors and a chicken. The tacos were pretty ordinary; the pork ones were salty and the chicken was just OK, definitely not one of the good ones I’ve tasted in DFW. It comes with a complimentary chips and salsa. The salsa was spicy and amazing. If you are in the area, there’s no harm in trying.

The atmosphere was great. Good music, four TVs, and delicious food! Highly recommended. We had the quesadilla, fries, and a spicy Mexican shrimp plate which we enjoyed!

Went in tonight. High regards to the pastor tacos & the barbacoa. Both were very flavorful, moist and served on freshly griddled tortillas. The chips and salsa weren’t very good, but the flavor of both the pastor and barbacoa would draw me back here. The chicken was also good, the fajita beef I could pass on.

My first time there. Tacos were nothing special — just some generic meat. I had much better in other places I will not mention here. I don’t know about other menu items. The server was nice and kind.

As I drove by Tacon Madre last night, my spidey senses started to tingle. Whether it was the homemade poster-board signs in the windows, or the glare of the Fox Soccer Channel beckoning, I do not know. What I do know is that I pulled over and went inside. I was not disappointed. We had the 3 tacos with your choice of meat served on corn tortillas with onion, cilantro, and lime on the side. Rice and refried beans were also included. My sweetheart of a server gave me extra tortillas as well at no extra charge. This meal is $ 5.56. Seafood is new addition to Tacon Madre’s menu, and the server was quick to point this out. She also went over all the seafood options. I ordered the tilapia the Mexican way, which was grilled tilapia cooked in garlic sauce, onions, and tomatoes. It came with rice, bread, french fries, and lettuce, and came to about $ 10.00. Both meals were excellent value, and good. My server, whose name I forgot(shame on me) also gave me some of their homemade salsa and chips. The salsa is good, with a bit of kick in it. The waitress was great: she was friendly and extremely knowledgeable about the menu. The TVs were indeed on the Fox Soccer Channel while I was there, and there were several patrons on their own watching the highlight show and have a beer /or dinner. I will certainly be back.
