The tonkotsu isn’t as authentic as traditional ramen. However, some of their other ramens are awesome. The lemongrass chicken and dumplings, creamy chicken, and curry ramens are my favorites. I live within walking distance to here so this is usually my go to ramen place.

Their spicy miso is really good. The heat is a little inconsistent– sometimes it makes my eyes water, sometimes it’s a light burn. It’s always good though. Maybe a little more expensive than I’d like, but that’s par for the course in downtown. Also, don’t skip the red bean icecream!

Looking for vegetarian ramen? Move along kids, you won’t find a worthy bowl here. Tanoshii’s vegetarian ramen(mushroom ramen) isn’t TERRIBLE but it wasn’t something that I wanted to continuously sip on. The noodles were cooked well and had a nice bite but all of the niceties end around here. The broth had a strange aftertaste and sweetness that I could not adjust to throughout the meal. The egg that I was looking forward to also had a sickly sweet taste that made the otherwise perfectly cook egg unappetizing. Toppings wise, I appreciated that Tanoshii’s chose toppings that were relatively small in size. A pitfall that most ramen places make when preparing vegetarian ramen is choosing burly, thick vegetables that are cumbersome and annoying to eat. The small enoki mushrooms and sprouts didn’t split my lip. I would not order the mushroom ramen again but I might give the rest of their menu a try. Hopefully, the sweetness is isolated to the ramen.

1. The noodles were undercooked(they were instant). 2. The broth wasn’t hot, it was just barely warm. 3. The soup in general was bland. 4. It had more veggies than meat. 5. The food was overpriced. Other than that it was very clean. The service was great, and it’s in a nice area.

The tonkotsu and miso aren’t fantastic if you’re used to «authentic» ramen, but if you’re looking for good fusion, this is your place. I highly recommend the creamy chicken and corn ramen. Also a huge fan of the braised mushroom buns. If you have the munchies, they’re open until 12 – 1 am and have a great late night menu.

This place is gentrified as fuck. I’ve had authentic ramen before and this isn’t it. The broth is watery and the noodles aren’t even ramen noodles. The staff isn’t very welcoming or nice either. This place is a disgrace to Japanese culture and I hope they go out of business one day. Stop gentrifying food.

I’ve been trying to find a go-to ramen eatery in Dallas and sadly Tanoshii was crossed off my list without a second take with my first bite of their Spicy Garlic Shrimp. At $ 15, I was expecting something more than the flavor and texture of your standard microwavable ramen. It seemed they had added 2 dollars to the base price of ramen for every shrimp in the dish. The space itself is very well decorated but it sadly does not correspond with the quality of their food. While places that have a «hip» vibe attract customers for their first visit, it’s the quality of food that makes them return customers. I can say I would rather make a serving of cup ramen rather than eat at Tanoshii again.

There wasn’t enough belly to try all we wanted to try so we will definitely be back! We tried the pork belly steamed buns, the spicy miso and the lemongrass chicken and dumplings and loved it. Only deducted a star since I had to ask the waiter to explain the menu since it was our first time eating ramen and also for consistency in the buns(some of the pork belly was crispier than others). Also, the lighting is a bit too bright but still a great ambiance.

I lived within walking distance to this restaurant for a while and sadly got to see the food go from excellent to average. Something happened that their ingredients went from feeling fresh to store-bought. Still not a horrible place if you’re feeling like eating ramen. Their cocktails are pretty good, especially the one with cantaloupe infused gin.

Had a craving for ramen and after reading all the reviews, we decided on tanoshii. Had the tonkatsu ramen with fishcakes. Ramen was so good! I only wish the broth was hotter. The broth had the nice rich flavor and the noodles was nice and springy. We also got chicken yakitori, dumplings and the seafood sushi ball for apps. Was not impressed with the apps.

New ramen and sushi restaurant in Deep Ellum right on Commerce St. Interior is spacious and elegant, typical American layout for a bistro with high ceilings and a long bar but with Japanese décor. Sat at the bar and ordered a Tan Tan ramen bowl. Overall, tasty but underwhelming as restaurant ramen with the noodles slightly undercooked(which tells me packaged instead of freshly made). There was nothing wrong with the dish, although it lacked any garnish or dressing at all, but for eating ramen out much more is expected than simply a bowl of simple noodles. The bartender was very engaging and seemed knowledgeable about their select line of Japanese whiskeys, some quite rare(I knew nothing about them). Nice for an elegant Asian lunch or dinner but not outstanding as a ramen house, especially for the price.

Out of the blue i decided to give this place a try. First thing i noticed was how well it was decorated. Sometimes with small spaces it can be hard to give a place a good feel, but they did quite well with this. The food here was less than spectacular. My girlfriend tried sushi which didn’t do anything for her. I had the soupless noodles and just couldn’t find anything about it that i really liked. On top of that the prices were a bit high for what i considered to be not a full restaurant, if you know what i mean. I think some of the fast food places that are similar in category have so much more to offer. I do think the staff were friendly though. I wouldn’t go back to this place in a long time. With the area there are just so many more places for about the same price that have more to offer.

This place is in the heart of Deep Ellum, which can be both good and bad. I could not find any street parking, so I had to pay $ 5 to park in a private lot nearby. The atmosphere inside was typical of a Japanese restaurant, with nothing special to note. I was told by a friend the ramen here is mediocre at best, so I opted to get the Braised Pork Belly Steamed Buns and Takoyaki. Portions were average, with 3 pieces for the buns and 4 for the takoyaki. The buns were soft and tasty, similar to the ones I had at Ippudo in NY. However, the pork belly was not tender or juicy, but dry and lacked in flavor. Takoyaki was even worse… the squid was not chopped up and each whole piece was tough like rubber.

–Ordered delivery, took a really long time(I was literally down the street), asked for a spicy sauce for my ramen on the side and didn’t get that either. –They were out of pork buns, said they had shrimp buns, gyoza arrived instead. –Charged me 30 bucks for a small, thin piece of pork, under cooked ramen noodles, spice(didn’t get it) and shrimp buns(didn’t get it). Taste: Meh, I’ve gotten more flavor from packet noodles. I think I’ll stick to Wabi from now on.

I got the spicy miso ramen, and it was too salty even after adding 1⁄3 of my soup volume of plain hot water to it. The noodles were the wavy packaged-ramen-esque noodles and had a pretty good chewy texture, not mushy. The takoyaki had a spicy powdery coating which was a surprising and nice unique touch, with big chunks of squid inside. The pork was fried before being added to the soup and had good flavor and the egg wasn’t overcooked, so yayy for all that. But people in my party were complaining of the small portion size relative to other nearby ramen places like Ten Ramen(they also liked the flavor of Ten Ramen better, but I haven’t tried it yet). Also, such a big part of the yum factor of ramen is the quality of the soup and the saltiness and lack of meaty punch kind of ruined it for me. Prices were standard ramen joint prices and my bowl was $ 15, including tip.

Tanoshii’s tonkotsu ramen broth had the right direction toward the taste of an authentic slow-brewed pork bone broth, but unfortunately the flavor lacked the necessary depth for a good ramen. By no means is this a bad ramen as the noodle texture was good, but its light-flavored broth is only sufficient to give this a mediocre rating. The restaurant’s clean hipster setting and the good service make Tanoshii a decent place to hang out over ramen, but if you are looking for a serious ramen place, this is not the place.

Aright: a bit more than I’d normally have paid, but all dishes and drinks were winners and service was spot-on. Maybe Dallas is just a more expensive town than Austin? Ramen: tasty Tokyo seafood dish for $ 16. Broth, veggies, seafood, and noodles all hit the spot. Beer: Japanese wheat beer for $ 8. Pricey but delicious. Cocktails: tequila, grapefruit, serrano! I would never have thought to put that together, but damn, let’s have a second one of those. Apps: oyster shooter – four? That’s a little skimpy. A half dozen is considered standard here. Still good, though. Service – cool, informative, and prompt. Waitress tracked me down outside to interrupt my obsession with leaving my hat places. Many thanks. Atmosphere: great-looking space with wooden furniture and an awesome monkey mural on the wall. On the whole, it was a nice splurge dinner. I was a little surprised to see that Tanoshii is not well reviewed. To each his own, I suppose.

We stopped in for a late night bite to eat this weekend. The waiter was friendly and helpful with the menu. Service was a little slow but I guess that is to be expected at 11PM. We started with the Shishito Peppers and the Dumplings and they were pretty good. Three of us had the Spicy Miso. It was pretty tasty overall but the pork belly in it was a little bland. I am glad that I ordered it extra spicy. The fourth in our group had the Lemongrass Chicken and Dumplings which he said was delicious

Service: 3⁄5 –Heather was our server –Service was average Food: 1⁄5 –Spicy Miso Ramen broth appeared creamy but it wasn’t. The noodles tasted off. The only redeeming part about the ramen was the generous size of the pork. The ramen is served with half an egg whereas other places serve a whole egg. At $ 12 this is getting into the expensive price range so I expected this to be darn good and it wasn’t –Yaki Ramen is served in a puddle of the yaki sauce which is very salty. I could not eat it. I politely asked if this is how it is served and Heather said yes. She took it back and they ran it through hot water which didn’t help. Avoid this dish, not worth it. –I’m fairly lenient with my ratings but Tanoshii’s ramen is pretty bad. I would not recommend anyone to come here.

I have no idea why this place has such a low rating. I really liked it their interpretation of ramen and although it was a little different than what I was used to, I thoroughly enjoyed it and want to come back for some more. I stared down at my bowl of soup and the only thing I regretted was not ordering two. (It’s okay, I was actually on a personal noodle crawl and went to Monkey King Noodle Co right after for my second lunch-true story) The bowl for 12 bucks had everything that I would want: PERFECT soft boiled egg, corn, scallions, perfect chewy noodles, that pickled veg that I’m not sure exactly what it is but I’m quite upset if I don’t have it, and the pork… This pork was grilled briefly before ending up in my bowl and it was the best thing in that bowl. I know ramen is supposed to be this sacred thing, super delicate with ramen experts so adamant about exactly what goes inside a bowl of ramen, but the American side of me wants at least 24 more slices of this damn pork because it was that good. Everything was made in-house, including the hot sauce on the tables, the noodles, broth, you name it, they made it. Come and give these peeps a try. I know I’ll be back! Btw, their bathroom was like a mini Japanese club. TV and loud J-pop in the background.
